Status of Supersymmetric Seesaw in SO(10) models

We report on the status of supersymmetric seesaw models in the light of recent experimental results on $μ\to e + γ$, $θ_{13}$ and the light Higgs mass at the LHC. SO(10)-like relations are assumed for neutrino Dirac Yukawa couplings and two cases of mixing, one large, PMNS-like, and another small, CKM-like, are considered. It is shown that for the large mixing case, only a small range of parameter space with moderate $\tan β$ is still allowed. This remaining region can be ruled out by an order of magnitude improvement in the current limit on BR($μ\to e + γ$). We also explore a model with non-universal Higgs mass boundary conditions at the high scale. It is shown that the renormalization group induced flavor violating slepton mass terms are highly sensitive to the Higgs boundary conditions. Depending on the choice of the parameters, they can either lead to strong enhancements or cancellations within the flavor violating terms. Such cancellations might relax the severe constraints imposed by lepton flavor violation compared to mSUGRA. Nevertheless for a large region of parameter space the predicted rates lie within the reach of future experiments once the light Higgs mass constraint is imposed. We also update the potential of the ongoing and future experimental searches for lepton flavor violation in constraining the supersymmetric parameter space.

Flavour physics of leptons and dipole moments

This chapter of the report of the ``Flavour in the era of the LHC'' Workshop discusses the theoretical, phenomenological and experimental issues related to flavour phenomena in the charged lepton sector and in flavour-conserving CP-violating processes. We review the current experimental limits and the main theoretical models for the flavour structure of fundamental particles. We analyze the phenomenological consequences of the available data, setting constraints on explicit models beyond the Standard Model, presenting benchmarks for the discovery potential of forthcoming measurements both at the LHC and at low energy, and exploring options for possible future experiments.

Flavour Physics and Grand Unification

In spite of the enormous success of the Standard Model (SM), we have strong reasons to expect the presence of new physics beyond the SM at higher energies. The idea of the Grand Unification of all the known interactions in nature is perhaps the main reason behind these expectations. Low-energy Supersymmetry is closely linked with grand unification as a solution of the hierarchy problem associated with the ratio M_GUT / M_Z. In these lectures we will provide a general overview of Grand Unification and Supersymmetry with special emphasis on their phenomenological consequences at low energies. We will analyse the flavour and CP problems of Supersymmetry and try to identify in these associated low-energy observables possible indications of the existence of a Grand Unified theory at high energies.

Distinguishing SUSY scenarios using τpolarisation and \tildeχ^0_1 Dark Matter

We discuss first a method of measuring $τ$ polarisation at the ILC using the 1--prong hadronic decays of the $τ$. We then show in this contribution how a study of the $\tilde τ$ sector and particularly use of decay $τ$ polarisation can offer a very good handle for distinguishing between mSUGRA and a SUSY-GUT scenario, both of which can give rise to appropriate Dark Matter.

SUSY-GUTs, SUSY-Seesaw and the Neutralino Dark Matter

We will consider a SUSY-SU(5) with one right-handed neutrino with a large top like Yukawa coupling. Assuming universal soft masses at high scale we compute the low-energy spectrum and subsequently the neutralino LSP relic density taking also into consideration SU(5) as well as the see-saw running effects above the gauge coupling unification scale. We found that there exists no viable region in parameter space for $\tanβ\ler ~35$. The $\tildeτ$ coannihilation process starts becoming efficient for $\tanβ\ger 35-40$. However, this process is significantly constrained by the limited range in which the stau is lighter than the neutralino. In fact, for a given $\tanβ$ we find that there exists an upper bound on the lightest neutralino mass ($M_{χ_1^0}$) in this region. The A-pole funnel region appears at very large $\tanβ\simeq 45-50$, while the focus-point region does not make an appearance till large ($m_0,M_{1/2}$), namely a few TeV. Large $A_0$ terms at high scale can lead to extended regions consistent with WMAP constraints and remove the upper bounds in the stau coannihilation regions.

Running $U_{e3}$ and BR($μ\to e +γ$) in SUSY-GUTs

In supersymmetric seesaw models based on SUSY-GUTs, it could happen that the neutrino PMNS mixing angles are related to the lepton flavour violating decay rates. In particular SO(10) frameworks, the smallest mixing angle would get directly correlated with the $μ\to e + γ$ decay amplitude. Here we study this correlation in detail considering $U_{e3}$ as a free parameter between 0 and $U_{e3}$(CHOOZ). Large radiative corrections to $U_{e3}$ present in these models, typically of the order ~$ΔU_{e3} ~\sim ~10^{-3}$ (peculiar to hierarchial neutrinos), can play a major role in enhancing the Br($μ\to e +γ$), especially when $U_{e3} \ler 10^{-3}$. For large tan$β$, even such small enhancements are sufficient to bring the associated Br($μ\to e + γ$) into realm of MEG experiment as long as SUSY spectrum lies within the range probed by LHC. On the other hand, for some (negative) values of $U_{e3}$, suppressions can occur in the branching ratio, due to cancellations among different contributions. From a top-down perspective such low values of $U_{e3}$ at the weak scale might require some partial/full cancellations between the high scale parameters of the model and the radiative corrections unless $U_{e3}$ is purely of radiative origin at the high scale. We further emphasize that in Grand Unified theories there exist additional LFV effects related to the running above the GUT scale, that are also independent on the low energy value of $U_{e3}$. These new contributions can become competitive and even dominant in some regions of the parameter space.

Soft SUSY Breaking Grand Unification: Leptons vs Quarks on the Flavor Playground

We systematically analyze the correlations between the various leptonic and hadronic flavor violating processes arising in SUSY Grand Unified Theories. Using the GUT-symmetric relations between the soft SUSY breaking parameters, we assess the impact of hadronic and leptonic flavor observables on the SUSY sources of flavor violation.

Lepton Flavour Violation from SUSY--GUTs: Where do we stand for MEG, PRISM/PRIME and a Super Flavour factory

We analyse the complementarity between Lepton Flavour Violation (LFV) and LHC experiments in probing the Supersymmetric (SUSY) Grand Unified Theories (GUT) when neutrinos got a mass via the see--saw mechanism. Our analysis is performed in an SO(10) framework, where at least one neutrino Yukawa coupling is necessarily as large as the top Yukawa coupling. Our study thoroughly takes into account the whole RG running, including the GUT and the right handed neutrino mass scales, as well as the running of the observable neutrino spectrum. We find that the upcoming (MEG, SuperKEKB) and future (PRISM/PRIME, Super Flavour factory) LFV experiments will be able to test such SUSY framework for SUSY masses to be explored at the LHC and, in some cases, even beyond the LHC sensitivity reach.

Classical running of neutrino masses from six dimensions

We discuss a six dimensional mass generation for the neutrinos. Active neutrinos live on a three-brane and interact via a brane localized mass term with a bulk six-dimensional standard model singlet (sterile) Weyl fermion, the two dimensions being transverse to the three-brane. We derive the physical neutrino mass spectrum and show that the active neutrino mass and Kaluza-Klein masses have a logarithmic cutoff divergence related to the zero-size limit of the three-brane in the transverse space. This translates into a renormalisation group running of the neutrino masses above the Kaluza-Klein compactification scale coming from classical effects, without any new non-singlet particles in the spectrum. For compact radii in the eV--MeV range, relevant for neutrino physics, this scenario predicts running neutrino masses which could affect, in particular, neutrinoless double beta decay experiments.

SUSY Seesaw and FCNC

After a quarter of century of intense search for new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), two ideas stand out to naturally cope with (i) small neutrino masses and (ii) a light higgs boson : Seesaw and SUSY. The combination of these two ideas, i.e. SUSY seesaw exhibits a potentially striking signature: a strong (or even very strong) enhancement of lepton flavour violation (LFV), which on the contrary remains unobservable in the SM seesaw. Indeed, even when supersymmetry breaking is completely flavour blind, Renormalisation Group running effects are expected to generate large lepton flavour violating entries at the weak scale. In Grand Unified theories, these effects can be felt even in hadronic physics. We explicitly show that in a class of SUSY SO(10) GUTs there exist cases where LFV and CP violation in B-physics can constitute a major road in simultaneously confirming the ideas of Seesaw and low-energy SUSY.

Lepton Flavor Violation, Neutralino Dark Matter and the Reach of the LHC

We revisit the phenomenology of the Constrained MSSM with right-handed neutrinos (CMSSMRN). A supersymmetric seesaw mechanism, generating neutrino masses and sizable lepton flavour violating (LFV) entries is assumed to be operative. In this scheme, we study the complementarity between the `observable ranges' of various paths leading to the possible discovery of low energy SUSY: the reach of the Cern Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the quest for neutralino dark matter signals and indirect searches through LFV processes. Within the regions of the CMSSMRN parameter space compatible with all cosmo-phenomenological requirements, those which are expected to be probed at the LHC will be typically also accessible to upcoming LFV experiments. Moreover, parameter space portions featuring a heavy SUSY particle spectrum could be well beyond LHC reach while leaving LFV searches as the only key to get a glimpse on SUSY.

Grand Unification of Quark and Lepton FCNCs

In the context of Supersymmetric Grand Unified theories with soft breaking terms arising at the Planck scale, it is generally possible to link flavor changing neutral current and CP violating processes occurring in the leptonic and hadronic sectors. We study the correlation between flavor changing squark and slepton mass insertions in models à la SU(5). We show that the constraints coming from lepton flavor violation exhibit a strong impact on CP-violating B decays.

Light Charged Higgs Bosons in Supersymmetric Models

We point out that present experimental limits from searches for neutral Higgs bosons at LEP already imply stringent lower bounds on the mass of the charged Higgs boson in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM); these bounds are especially severe for low values of \tanb ($\tanb \leq 3$), where the $H^+ \bar{t} b$ coupling is large. However, these indirect constraints are much weaker in simple extensions of the MSSM Higgs sector involving the introduction of an extra U(1) gauge group or an extra $SU(2) \times U(1)_Y$ Higgs singlet field; in the latter case charged Higgs bosons can even be light enough to be pair produced at LEP.
