A Comparative Study of Coupled High-Q Cavity-Quantum Dot System Regarding Dipole Induced Transparency

We present the differences between Input-Output formalism (IOF) and Incoherent Pumping Mechanism (IPM) derived from Lindblad Master Equation approach in terms of the transmission spectrum of Coupled high-Q Cavity with Quantum Dot system in the strong coupling regime. Fullwidth- half-maximum (FWHM) and the peak transmission of Dipole Induced Transparency (DIT) are inquired for detailed comparison in on-resonant and off-resonant conditions. We have found that DIT phenomenon in off-resonant case cannot be explained entirely by IPM although both methods can exhibit the same Vacuum Rabi splitting in on-resonant case. We have concluded that polariton having atomic-like feature in transmission spectrum could not be captured completely by IPM.

On-chip optical filters with designable characteristics based on an interferometer with embedded silicon photonic structures

We demonstrate chip-scale flat-top filters at near-infrared wavelengths using negative index photonic crystal based Mach Zehnder interferometers. Supported by full three-dimensional numerical simulations, we experimentally demonstrate a new approach for engineering high-pass, low-pass, band-pass, and band-reject filters, based on designing the photonic band diagram both within the band-gap frequency region and away from it. We further show that our approach can be used to design filters that have tunable multi-level response for different sections of the spectrum and for different polarizations. This configuration enables deterministic control of the bandwidth and the rejection ratio of filters for integrated photonic circuits.

Observations of temporal group delays in slow-light multiple coupled photonic crystal cavities

We demonstrate temporal group delays in coherently-coupled high-Q multi-cavity photonic crystals, in an all-optical analogue to electromagnetically induced transparency. We report deterministic control of the group delay up to 4x the single cavity lifetime in our CMOS-fabricated room-temperature chip. Supported by three-dimensional numerical simulations and theoretical analyses, our multi-pump beam approach enables control of the multi-cavity resonances and inter-cavity phase, in both single and double transparency peaks. The standing-wave wavelength-scale photon localization allows direct scalability for chip-scale optical pulse trapping and coupled-cavity QED.

Observations of zero-order bandgaps in negative-index photonic crystal superlattices at the near-infrared

We present the first observations of zero-n bandgaps in photonic crystal superlattices consisting of alternating stacks of negative index photonic crystals and positive index dielectric materials in the near-infrared. Guided by ab initio three-dimensional numerical simulations, the fabricated nanostructured superlattices demonstrate the presence of zero-order gaps in remarkable agreement with theoretical predictions across a range of different superlattice periods and unit cell variations. These volume-averaged zero-index superlattice structures present a new type of photonic band gap, with potential for complete wavefront control for arbitrary phase delay lines and open cavity resonances.
