A photonic source with half-a-GHz single-photon flux

Advanced optical quantum technologies demands high quality quantum light generation at very high rates. Here, we report on a deterministic single-photon source that simultaneously combines high excitation rates with high system efficiency to reach over 500 MHz of in-fibre single-photon flux. The source delivers optical power of over 100 pW, as is measured with an off-the-shelf powermeter, enabling a simple and direct way of determining the single-photon source fiber efficiency.

Systematically Asymmetric: A comparison of \hi\ profile asymmetries in real and simulated galaxies

We examine different measures of asymmetry for galaxy HI velocity profiles. We introduce the channel-by-channel asymmetry and the velocity-of-equality statistics to quantify profile asymmetries. Using a sample of simulated galaxies, we examine how these and the standard lopsidedness morphometric statistic depend on a variety of observational effects including the viewing angle and inclination. We find that our newly introduced channel-by-channel asymmetry is less sensitive to the effects of viewing angle and inclination than other morphometrics. Applying our statistics to the WHISP HI galaxy sample, we also find that the channel-by-channel asymmetry, is a better indicator of visually-classified asymmetric profiles. In addition, we find that the lopsidedness-velocity of equality space can be used to identify profiles with deep central dips without visual inspection.

ELM triggering conditions for the integrated modeling of H-mode plasmas

Recent advances in the integrated modeling of ELMy H-mode plasmas are presented. A model for the H-mode pedestal and for the triggering of ELMs predicts the height, width, and shape of the H-mode pedestal and the frequency and width of ELMs. Formation of the pedestal and the L-H transition is the direct result of ExB flow shear suppression of anomalous transport. The periodic ELM crashes are triggered by either the ballooning or peeling MHD instabilities. The BALOO, DCON, and ELITE ideal MHD stability codes are used to derive a new parametric expression for the peeling-ballooning threshold. The new dependence for the peeling-ballooning threshold is implemented in the ASTRA transport code. Results of integrated modeling of DIII-D like discharges are presented and compared with experimental observations. The results from the ideal MHD stability codes are compared with results from the resistive MHD stability code NIMROD.
