Photoelectron interferometry with spectrally shaped polychromatic infrared pulses

Laser-assisted photoelectron interferometry is a cornerstone of attosecond science, first used to characterize attosecond pulse trains and later to study photoionization dynamics. Extending this method to spectrally shaped polychromatic infrared probe fields enables encoding of information across multiple interferometric pathways within the photoelectron spectrum. Here, we experimentally demonstrate laser-assisted photoelectron interferometry using a spectrally shaped polychromatic infrared probe field composed of five distinct spectral components forming a Golomb ruler in the frequency domain. The measured interferograms exhibit multiple beating frequencies that agree with theoretical calculations, demonstrating the simultaneous encoding of multiple laser-assisted quantum beats in a single measurement. A quantitative analysis of the beating amplitudes shows that the strongly modulated temporal profile of the polychromatic probe introduces intensity- and delay-dependent distortions of the quantum beats that cannot be explained by second-order perturbation theory. These results establish the conditions required for the quantitative interpretation of polychromatic photoelectron interferometry and highlight the opportunities offered by spectro-temporal engineering of the probe field for future developments in attosecond science.

Theoretical analysis of a Polarized Two-Photon Michelson Interferometer with Broadband Chaotic Light

In this paper, we study two-photon interference of broadband chaotic light in a Michelson interferometer with two-photon-absorption detector. The theoretical analysis is based on two-photon interference and Feynman path integral theory. The two-photon coherence matrix is introduced to calculate the second-order interference pattern with polarizations being taken into account. Our study shows that the polarization is another dimension, as well as time and space, to tune the interference pattern in the two-photon interference process. It can act as a switch to manipulate the interference process and open the gate to many new experimental schemes.

Reinforcement Learning and Control of a Lower Extremity Exoskeleton for Squat Assistance

A significant challenge for the control of a robotic lower extremity rehabilitation exoskeleton is to ensure stability and robustness during programmed tasks or motions, which is crucial for the safety of the mobility-impaired user. Due to various levels of the user's disability, the human-exoskeleton interaction forces and external perturbations are unpredictable and could vary substantially and cause conventional motion controllers to behave unreliably or the robot to fall down. In this work, we propose a new, reinforcement learning-based, motion controller for a lower extremity rehabilitation exoskeleton, aiming to perform collaborative squatting exercises with efficiency, stability, and strong robustness. Unlike most existing rehabilitation exoskeletons, our exoskeleton has ankle actuation on both sagittal and front planes and is equipped with multiple foot force sensors to estimate center of pressure (CoP), an important indicator of system balance. This proposed motion controller takes advantage of the CoP information by incorporating it in the state input of the control policy network and adding it to the reward during the learning to maintain a well balanced system state during motions. In addition, we use dynamics randomization and adversary force perturbations including large human interaction forces during the training to further improve control robustness. To evaluate the effectiveness of the learning controller, we conduct numerical experiments with different settings to demonstrate its remarkable ability on controlling the exoskeleton to repetitively perform well balanced and robust squatting motions under strong perturbations and realistic human interaction forces.

Polarization squeezing and multipartite entanglement of triphoton states

Based upon standard angular momentum theory, we develop a framework to investigate polarization squeezing and multipartite entanglement of a quantum light field. Both mean polarization and variances of the Stokes parameters are obtained analytically, with which we study recent observation of triphoton states [L. K. Shalm {\it et al}, Nature \textbf{457}, 67 (2009)]. Our results show that the appearance of maximally entangled NOON states accompanies with a flip of mean polarization and can be well understood in terms of quantum Fisher information.
