On the theory of neutrino mixing and oscillations

A brief review of the status of neutrino oscillations is given. The phenomenology of neutrino mixing and the standard seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass generation is discussed. Different approaches to neutrino oscillations are considered and compared. The role of the Heisenberg space-momentum uncertainty relation and the Mandelstam-Tamm time-energy uncertainty relation in neutrino oscillations is discussed in some detail.

Neutrinoless Double Beta-Decay

The neutrinoless double $β$-decay of nuclei is reviewed. We discuss neutrino mixing and 3x3 PMNS neutrino mixing matrix. Basic theory of neutrinoless double $β$-decay is presented in some details. Results of different calculations of nuclear matrix element are discussed. Experimental situation is considered. The Appendix is dedicated to E. Majorana (brief biography and his paper in which the theory of Majorana particles is given)

The ratio of $e^{\pm}p$ scattering cross sections predicted from the global fit of elastic $ep$ data

We present predictions for the value of the cross section ratio $σ(e^+p \to e^+p)/σ(e^-p \to e^-p)$, determined from our fit of the elastic $ep$ cross section and polarization data. In this fit we took into account the phenomenological two-photon exchange dispersive correction. The cross section ratios which are expected to be measured by the VEPP-3 experiment are computed. The kinematical region which will be covered by the E04-116 JLab experiment is also considered. It is shown that for both experiments the predicted cross section ratios deviate from unity within more than $3σ$.

Electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon: new fit and analysis of uncertainties

Electromagnetic form factors of proton and neutron, obtained from a new fit of data, are presented. The proton form factors are obtained from a simultaneous fit to the ratio $μ_p G_{Ep}/G_{Mp}$ determined from polarization transfer measurements and to $ep$ elastic cross section data. Phenomenological two-photon exchange corrections are taken into account. The present fit for proton was performed in the kinematical region $Q^2\in (0,6)$ GeV$^2$. Both for protons and neutrons we use the latest available data. For all form factors the uncertainties and correlations of form factor parameters are investigated with the $χ^2$ method.

Are Neutrino Oscillations a Non-stationary Phenomenon?

We discuss different schemes of neutrino oscillations and the time-energy uncertainty relation. From the results of the K2K and MINOS accelerator experiments follows that neutrino oscillations are a non-stationary phenomenon and that the standard time-energy uncertainty relation is satisfied. Are these properties a general feature of neutrino oscillations? In this paper we demonstrate that a recently proposed tritium/helium-3 Moessbauer neutrino-experiment could answer this question.

Time-Energy Uncertainty Relations for Neutrino Oscillation and MÖssbauer Neutrino Experiment

Using the Mandelstam-Tamm method we derive time-energy uncertainty relations for neutrino oscillations. We demonstrate that the small energy uncertainty of antineutrinos in a recently considered experiment with recoilless resonant (Mössbauer) production and absorption of tritium antineutrinos is in conflict with the energy uncertainty which, according to the time-energy uncertainty relation, is necessary for neutrino oscillations to happen. A Mössbauer neutrino experiment could provide a unique possibility to test the applicability of the time-energy uncertainty relation to neutrino oscillations and to reveal the true nature of neutrino oscillations.

Different Schemes of Neutrino Oscillations in MÖssbauer Neutrino Experiment

We comment on the paper "On application of the time-energy uncertainty relation to Mössbauer neutrino experiments" (see arXiv: 0803.1424) in which our paper "Time-energy uncertainty relations for neutrino oscillation and Mössbauer neutrino experiment" (see arXiv: 0803.0527) has been criticized. We argue that this critique is a result of misinterpretation: The authors of (arXiv: 0803.1424) do not take into account (or do not accept) the fact that at present there exist different schemes of neutrino oscillations which can not be distinguished in usual neutrino oscillation experiments. We stress that a recently proposed Mössbauer neutrino experiment provides the unique possibility to discriminate basically different approaches to oscillations of flavor neutrinos.

Recoilless Resonance Absorption of Tritium Antineutrinos and Time-Energy Uncertainty Relation

We discuss neutrino oscillations in an experiment with Mössbauer recoilless resonance absorbtion of tritium antineutrinos, proposed recently by Raghavan. We demonstrate that small energy uncertainty of antineutrinos which ensures a large resonance absorption cross section is in a conflict with the energy uncertainty which, according to the time-energy uncertainty relation, is necessary for neutrino oscillations to happen. The search for neutrino oscillations in the Mössbauer neutrino experiment would be an important test of the applicability of the time-energy uncertainty relation to a newly discovered interference phenomenon.

CP-violation and unitarity triangle test of the Standard Model

Phenomenological issues of the CP violation in the quark sector of the Standard Model are discussed. We consider quark mixing in the SM, standard and Wolfenstein parametrization of the $CKM$ mixing matrix and unitarity triangle. We discuss the phenomenology of the CP violation in $K^{0}_{L}$ and $B_{d}^{0} (\bar B_{d}^{0})$-decays. The standard unitarity triangle fit of the existing data is discussed. In appendix A we compare the $K^{0}\leftrightarrows \bar K^{0}$, $B_{d,s}^{0}\leftrightarrows \bar B^{0}_{d,s}$ etc oscillations with neutrino oscillations. In Appendix B we derive the evolution equation for $M^{0}- \bar M^{0}$ system in the Weisskopf-Wigner approximation.

Flavor Neutrino Oscillations and Time-Energy Uncertainty Relation

We consider neutrino oscillations as non stationary phenomenon based on Schrodinger evolution equation and mixed states of neutrinos with definite flavors. We show that time-energy uncertainty relation plays a crucial role in neutrino oscillations. We compare neutrino oscillations with $B_{d}^{0}\leftrightarrows\bar B_{d}^{0}$ oscillations.

On Neutrino Oscillations and Time-Energy Uncertainty Relation

We consider neutrino oscillations as non stationary phenomenon based on Schrodinger evolution equation and mixed neutrino states with definite flavor. We demonstrate that for such states invariance under translations in time does not take place. We show that time-energy uncertainty relation plays a crucial role in neutrino oscillations. We compare neutrino oscillations with $K^{0}\leftrightarrows\bar K^{0}$, $B_{d}^{0}\leftrightarrows\bar B_{d}^{0}$ etc oscillations.

A Comment on the Measurement of Neutrino Masses in Beta-Decay Experiments

We discuss the physics potential of future tritium beta-decay experiments having a sensitivity to a neutrino mass ~\sqrt{|Δm^{2}_{23}|}~5x10^{-2} eV. The case of three-neutrino mixing is analised. A negative result of such an experiment would imply that the neutrino mass spectrum is of normal hierarchical type. The interpretation of a positive result would depend on the value of the lightest neutrino mass; if the lightest neutrino mass satisfies the inequality min(m_j) << \sqrt{|Δm^{2}_{23}|}, it would imply that the neutrino mass spectrum is of the inverted hierarchical type.

Majorana Neutrino Mixing

The most plausible see-saw explanation of the smallness of the neutrino masses is based on the assumption that total lepton number is violated at a large scale and neutrinos with definite masses are Majorana particles. In this review we consider in details difference between Dirac and Majorana neutrino mixing and possibilities of revealing Majorana nature of neutrinos with definite masses.
