Quantum coherence and Leggett-Garg inequality

In this paper, we attempt to establish the relationship between quantum coherence and the violation of the Leggett-Garg inequality. In particular, employing the Lindblad equation, we obtain the pseudo-density matrix for a damping system to study the effect of environment interaction on the violation of this inequality in a two-state quantum system. It is shown that the violation of the Leggett-Garg inequality can be observed as long as temporal evolution does not induce decoherence. This statement is independent of the initial state of the system. Furthermore, similar to the Horodecki criterion for the CHSH inequality (R. Horodecki et al. Phys. Lett. {\bf A200}, 340), we study necessary and sufficient conditions for violating the Leggett-Garg inequality. Hereby, under the circumstance that the inequality violation occurs, an upper bound for the time interval between consecutive measurements with respect to the time scale of interaction with the environment (the relaxation time) is obtained.

Analytic height correlation function of rough surfaces derived from light scattering

We derive an analytic expression for the height correlation function of a rough surface based on the inverse wave scattering method of Kirchhoff theory. The expression directly relates the height correlation function to diffuse scattered intensity along a linear path at fixed polar angle. We test the solution by measuring the angular distribution of light scattered from rough silicon surfaces, and comparing extracted height correlation functions to those derived from atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results agree closely with AFM over a wider range of roughness parameters than previous formulations of the inverse scattering problem, while relying less on large-angle scatter data. Our expression thus provides an accurate analytical equation for the height correlation function of a wide range of surfaces based on measurements using a simple, fast experimental procedure.

Computing the band structure and energy gap of penta-graphene by using DFT and G0W0 approximations

In this paper, we consider the optimum coordinate of the penta-graphene. Penta-graphene is a new stable carbon allotrope which is stronger than graphene. Here, we compare the band gap of penta-graphene with various density functional theory (DFT) methods. We plot the band structure of penta-graphene which calculated with the generalized gradient approximation functional, about Fermi energy.

Path derivation for a wave scattered model to estimate height correlation function of rough surfaces

The long standing problem on finding the height correlation function is studied by the inverse scattering problem. We propose a new method in the frame work of Kirchhoff theory which we call "path derivation of scattered wave (PDSW)" in order to obtain an expression for direct measurements of the height correlation function. This would provide adequate insight to rough surfaces. The efficiency of this method is due to the fact that the height correlation function could be estimated directly by measurements of the scattered intensity on a suggested path. The model is tested numerically and an experimental setup is suggested.

Analytical expression for wave scattering from exponential height correlated rough surfaces

Wave scattering from rough surfaces in addition the inverse scattering is an interesting approach to obtain the surface topography properties in various fields. Analytical expression in wave scattering from some known rough surfaces, not only help us to understand the scattering phenomena, but also would prove adequate to be a criterion to measure the information for empirical rough surfaces. For a rough surface with an exponential height correlation function, we derive an analytical expression for the diffused part and expanded it in two asymptotic regimes. We consider one surface as slightly rough and the other as very rough based on the framework of the Kirchhoff theory. In the end, we have measured the role of various Hurst exponents and correlation lengths on scattering intensity in self-affine surfaces. We have shown that by increasing the Hurst exponent from H=0 to H=1, the diffuse scattering decreases with the scattering angle.

Conformal Invariance of Iso-height Lines in two-dimensional KPZ Surface

The statistics of the iso-height lines in (2+1)-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) model is shown to be conformal invariant and equivalent to those of self-avoiding random walks. This leads to a rich variety of new exact analytical results for the KPZ dynamics. We present direct evidence that the iso-height lines can be described by the family of conformal invariant curves called Schramm-Loewner evolution (or $SLE_κ$) with diffusivity $κ=8/3$. It is shown that the absence of the non-linear term in the KPZ equation will change the diffusivity $κ$ from 8/3 to 4, indicating that the iso-height lines of the Edwards-Wilkinson (EW) surface are also conformally invariant, and belong to the universality class of the domain walls in the O(2) spin model.

Level Crossing Analysis of the Stock Markets

We investigate the average frequency of positive slope $ν_α^{+}$, crossing for the returns of market prices. The method is based on stochastic processes which no scaling feature is explicitly required. Using this method we define new quantity to quantify stage of development and activity of stocks exchange. We compare the Tehran and western stock markets and show that some stocks such as Tehran (TEPIX) and New Zealand (NZX) stocks exchange are emerge, and also TEPIX is a non-active market and financially motivated to absorb capital.

Localization-delocalization transition in a one-dimensional system with long-range correlated off-diagonal disorder

The localization behavior of the one-dimensional Anderson model with correlated and uncorrelated purely off-diagonal disorder is studied. Using the transfer matrix method, we derive an analytical expression for the localization length at the band center in terms of the pair correlation function. It is proved that for long-range correlated hopping disorder, a localization-delocalization transition occurs at the critical Hurst exponent H_c= 1/2 when the variance of the logarithm of hopping "σ_{\ln(t)}" is kept fixed with the system size N. Based on numerical calculations, finite size scaling relations are postulated for the localization length near the band center (E \neq 0) in terms of the system parameters: E,N,H, and σ_{\ln(t)}.

Magnetism near the metal-insulator transition in two-dimensional electron systems: the role of interaction and disorder

Recent thermodynamic measurements on two-dimensional (2D) electron systems have found diverging behavior in the magnetic susceptibility and appearance of ferromagnetism with decreasing electron density. The critical densities for these phenomena coincide with the metal-insulator transition recorded in transport measurements. Based on density functional calculations within the local spin-density approximation, we have investigated the compressibility and magnetic susceptibility of a 2D electron gas in the presence of remote impurities. A correlation between the minimum in the inverse capacitance ($\partialμ/\partial n$) and the maximum of magnetization and magnetic susceptibility is found. Based on values we obtain for the inverse participation ratio, this seems to be also the MIT point.

Stochastic Analysis and Regeneration of Rough Surfaces

We investigate Markov property of rough surfaces. Using stochastic analysis we characterize the complexity of the surface roughness by means of a Fokker-Planck or Langevin equation. The obtained Langevin equation enables us to regenerate surfaces with similar statistical properties compared with the observed morphology by atomic force microscopy.
