Momentum sum rules for fragmentation functions

Momentum sum rules for fragmentation functions are considered. In particular, we give a general proof of the Schäfer-Teryaev sum rule for the transverse momentum dependent Collins function. We also argue that corresponding sum rules for related fragmentation functions do not exist. Our model-independent analysis is supplemented by calculations in a simple field-theoretical model.

Generalized parton correlation functions for a spin-1/2 hadron

The fully unintegrated, off-diagonal quark-quark correlator for a spin-1/2 hadron is parameterized in terms of so-called generalized parton correlation functions. Such objects, in particular, can be considered as mother distributions of generalized parton distributions on the one hand and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions on the other. Therefore, our study provides new, model-independent insights into the recently proposed nontrivial relations between generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. We find that none of these relations can be promoted to a model-independent status. As a by-product we obtain the first complete classification of generalized parton distributions beyond leading twist. The present paper is a natural extension of our previous corresponding analysis for spin-0 hadrons.

Partonic Pole Matrix Elements for Fragmentation

A model-independent analysis of collinear three-parton correlation functions for fragmentation is performed. By investigating their support properties it is shown, in particular, that the so-called partonic pole matrix elements vanish. This sheds new light on the understanding of transverse single spin asymmetries in various hard semi-inclusive reactions. Moreover, it gives additional strong evidence for the universality of transverse-momentum-dependent fragmentation functions.

Generalized parton correlation functions for a spin-0 hadron

The fully unintegrated, off-diagonal quark-quark correlator for a spin-0 hadron is parameterized in terms of so-called generalized parton correlation functions. Such objects are of relevance for the phenomenology of certain hard exclusive reactions. In particular, they can be considered as {\it mother distributions} of generalized parton distributions on the one hand and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions on the other. Therefore, our study provides new, model-independent insights into the recently proposed nontrivial relations between generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. As a by-product we obtain the first complete classification of generalized parton distributions beyond leading twist.

Generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions of the nucleon

We present first results from our analysis of the most general quark-quark correlator of the nucleon, which can be parameterized in terms of so-called generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions. These results include the first complete parameterization of the nucleon GPDs and TMDs to all twists as well as new results on possible nontrivial relations between them.

Relations between GPDs and TMDs: model results and beyond

Comparing the respective structures of the correlators defining generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions, one finds possible relations between these two objects. Although it looks like the relations found do not hold in general, we show that they can be established at least in simple spectator model calculations. In addition, we discuss these relations in the context of generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions.

Relations between generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions

Recent work suggests non-trivial relations between generalized parton distributions on the one hand and (naive time-reversal odd) transverse momentum dependent distributions on the other. Here we review the present knowledge on such type of relations. Moreover, as far as spectator model calculations are concerned, the existing results are considerably extended. While various relations between the two types of parton distributions can be found in the framework of spectator models, so far no non-trivial model-independent relations have been established.

Are generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions related ?

The present knowledge on non-trivial relations between generalized parton distributions on the one hand and transverse momentum dependent distributions on the other is reviewed. While various relations can be found in the framework of spectator models, so far no model-independent non-trivial relations have been established.

Checking the Burkardt sum rule for the Sivers function by model calculations

The Sivers mechanism gives rise to a non-zero average transverse momentum of partons inside a transversely polarized target. According to a sum rule of Burkardt this transverse momentum vanishes when summing over all partons. We explicitly check the Burkardt sum rule by means of one-loop calculations for a quark target in perturbative QCD and for a diquark spectator model of the nucleon. In both cases the sum rule is fulfilled.
