Pion radiative weak decays in nonlocal chiral quark models

We analyze the radiative pion decay pi+ -> e+ nu_e gamma within nonlocal chiral quark models that include wave function renormalization. In this framework we calculate the vector and axial-vector form factors FV and FA at q^2=0 --where q^2 is the (e+ ν_e) squared invariant mass-- and the slope a of FV(q^2) at q^2 -> 0. The calculations are carried out considering different nonlocal form factors, in particular those taken from lattice QCD evaluations, showing a reasonable agreement with the corresponding experimental data. The comparison of our results with those obtained in the (local) NJL model and the relation of FV and a with the form factor in pi^0 -> gamma* gamma decays are discussed.

The pion transition form factor and the pion distribution amplitude

Recent BaBaR data on the pion transition form factor, whose Q^2 dependence is much steeper then predicted by asymptotic Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), have caused a renewed interest in its theoretical description. We present here a formalism based on a model independent low energy description and a high energy description based on QCD, which match at a scale Q_0. The high energy description incorporates a flat pion distribution amplitude, phi(x)=1, at the matching scale Q_0 and QCD evolution from Q_0 to Q>Q_0. The flat pion distribution is connected, through soft pion theorems and chiral symmetry, to the pion valance parton distribution at the same low scale Q_0. The procedure leads to a good description of the data, and incorporating additional twist three effects, to an excellent description of the data.

Enhancement effects in exclusive $ππ$ and $ρπ$ production in $γ^{\ast}γ$ scattering

The exclusive $ππ$ and $ρπ$ production in hard $γ^{\ast}γ$ scattering in the forward kinematical region where the virtual photon is highly off-shell is studied using the $γ\toπ^-$ Transition Distribution Amplitudes obtained in realistic models for the pion. For $ρπ$ production we confirm the previous estimates before QCD evolution. Nevertheless, once evolution is taken into account this cross section grows one order of magnitude. In the case of $ππ$ production we have evaluated the cross section including the pion pole contribution. We observe that this contribution is responsible for an enhancement of two orders of magnitude with respect to the cross section evaluated without the pion pole term.

Distribution amplitude for the photon-pion transition

The exclusive production of ππand πρin hard γ^{\star}γscattering in the forward kinematical region where the virtual photon is highly off-shell are studied through the γ\toπ^- Transition Distribution Amplitudes. The calculation is based on a covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach, applied to the Nambu - Jona-Lasinio model, for the determination of the pion bound state. In particular it is shown that the pion pole contribution produces a large enhancement of the differential cross section for the pion pair production with respect to previous estimates.

Nonlocal chiral quark models with wavefunction renormalization: sigma properties and π-πscattering parameters

We analyze the sigma meson mass and width together with the pion-pion scattering parameters in the context of non-local chiral quark models with wave-function renormalization (WFR). We consider both non-local interactions based on the frequently used exponential form factor, and on fits to the mass and renormalization functions obtained in lattice calculations. In the case of the sigma properties we obtain results which are less dependent on the parameterization than in the standard local NJL model, and which are in reasonable agreement with the recently reported empirical values. We also show that the inclusion of the WFR tend to improve the description of the $π-π$ scattering parameters, with the lattice inspired parameterization providing the best overall results. Finally, we analyze the connection of the non-local quark models discussed here with Chiral Perturbation Theory, and present the model predictions for the low energy constants relevant for $π-π$ scattering to O(4) in the chiral expansion.

Pion-Photon Transition Distribution Amplitudes

The newly introduced Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDAs) are discussed for the $π$-$γ$ transitions. Relations between $π$-$γ$ and $γ$-$π$ TDAs for different cases are given. Numerical values for the $π$-$γ$ TDAs in different models are compared. GPD's features are extended to TDAs and the role of PCAC highlighted. We give hints for the evaluation of cross sections for meson pair production in our approach.

Pion-Photon TDAs in the NJL Model

The pion-photon Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDAs) are studied, treating the pion as a bound state in the sense of Bethe-Salpeter, in the formalism of the NJL model. The results obtained explicitly verify support, sum rules and polynomiality conditions. The role of PCAC is highlighted.

The Pion-Photon Transition Distribution Amplitudes in the Nambu-Jona Lasinio Model

We define the pion-photon Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDA) in a field theoretic formalism from a covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach for the determination of the bound state. We apply our formalism to the Nambu - Jona Lasinio model, as a realistic theory of the pion. The obtained vector and axial TDAs satisfy all features required by general considerations. In particular, sum rules and polynomiality condition are explicitly verified. We have numerically proved that the odd coefficients in the polynomiality expansion of the vector TDA vanish in the chiral limit. The role of PCAC and the presence of a pion pole are explicitly shown.

Non local lagrangians(I): the pion

We define a family of non local and chirally symmetric low energy lagrangians motivated by theoretical studies on Quantum Chromodynamics. These models lead to quark propagators with non trivial momentum dependencies. We define the formalism for two body bound states and apply it to the pion. We study the coupling of the photon and W bosons with special attention to the implementation of local gauge invariance. We calculate the pion decay constant recovering the Goldberger-Treiman and the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relations. We recover a form of the axial current consistent with PCAC. Finally we study the pion form factor and we construct the operators involved in its parton distribution.

Pion Parton Distributions in a non local Lagrangian

We use phenomenological nonlocal Lagrangians, which lead to non trivial forms for the quark propagator, to describe the pion. We define a procedure, based on the Dyson-Schwinger equations, for the calculation of the pion parton distributions at low Q^2. The obtained parton distributions fulfill all the wishful properties. Using a convolution approach we incorporate the composite character of the constituent quarks in the formalism. We evolve, using the Renormalization Group, the calculated parton distributions to the experimental scale and compare favorably with the data and draw conclusions.

Generalized parton distributions of the pion in a Bethe-Salpeter approach

We calculate generalized parton distribution functions in a field theoretic formalism using a covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach for the determination of the bound-state wave function. We describe the procedure in an exact calculation in scalar Electrodynamics proving that the relevant corrections outside our scheme vanish. We extend the formalism to the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, a realistic theory of the pion. We go in both cases beyond all previous calculations and discover that all important features required by general physical considerations, like symmetry properties, sum rules and the polynomiality condition, are explicitly verified. We perform a numerical study of their behavior in the weak and strong coupling limits.

Comparison of Different Boost Transformations for the Calculation of Form Factors in Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

The effect of different boost expressions, pertinent to the instant, front and point forms of relativistic quantum mechanics, is considered for the calculation of the ground-state form factor of a two-body system in simple scalar models. Results with a Galilean boost as well as an explicitly covariant calculation based on the Bethe-Salpeter approach are given for comparison. It is found that the present so-called point-form calculations of form factors strongly deviate from all the other ones. This suggests that the formalism which underlies them requires further elaboration. A proposition in this sense is made.

Semileptonic decays of charmed mesons in the effective action of QCD

Within the framework of phenomenological Lagrangians we construct the effective action of QCD relevant for the study of semileptonic decays of charmed mesons. Hence we evaluate the form factors of D -> P(0^-) l^+ nu_l at leading order in the 1/N_C expansion and, by demanding their QCD-ruled asymptotic behaviour, we constrain the couplings of the Lagrangian. The features of the model-independent parameterization of form factors provided and their relevance for the analysis of experimental data are pointed out.

Effective boost and "point-form" approach

Triangle Feynman diagrams can be considered as describing form factors of states bound by a zero-range interaction. These form factors are calculated for scalar particles and compared to point-form and non-relativistic results. By examining the expressions of the complete calculation in different frames, we obtain an effective boost transformation which can be compared to the relativistic kinematical one underlying the present point-form calculations, as well as to the Galilean boost. The analytic expressions obtained in this simple model allow a qualitative check of certain results obtained in similar studies. In particular, a mismatch is pointed out between recent practical applications of the point-form approach and the one originally proposed by Dirac.

Electromagnetic Form Factors of the Nucleon in a Relativistic Quark Pair Creation Model

We study the effects of the | qqq q\bar{q} > component of the hadronic wave function on the description of the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon. Starting with a qqq baryonic wave function which describes the baryonic and mesonic low energy spectrum, the extra q\bar{q} pair is generated through a relativistic version of the 3P_0 model. It is shown that this model leads to a renormalization of the quark mass that allows one to construct a conserved electromagnetic current. We conclude that these dynamical relativistic corrections play an important role in reproducing the Q2 dependence of the electromagnetic form factors at low Q^2.

Single Spin Asymmetry Parameter from Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering of Hadrons up to Twist-3 accuracy: I. Pion case

The study of deeply virtual Compton scattering has shown that electromagnetic gauge invariance requires, to leading order, not only twist two but additional twist three contributions. We apply this analysis and, using the Ellis-Furmanski-Petronzio factorization scheme, compute the single (electron) spin asymmetry arising in the collision of longitudinally polarized electrons with hadrons up to twist 3 accuracy. In order to simplify the kinematics we restrict the actual calculation to pions in the chiral limit. The process is described in terms of the generalized parton distribution functions which we obtain within a bag model framework.

The beta-beta two neutrino decay in 48Ca

A schematic study of the $ββ2ν$-decay of $^{48}Ca$ is made in a shell-model approach. The emphasis is especially put on the role of the spin-orbit potential in relation with the contribution of other terms in the strong interaction. This is discussed with a particular attention to the behavior of these ones under the SU(4) symmetry. Different methods in calculating the transition amplitude are also looked at with the aim to determine their reliability and, eventually, why they don't work. Further aspects relative to the failure of the Operator Expansion Method to reproduce the results of more elaborate calculations are examined.

Describing the nucleon and its form factors at high q**2

The nucleon form factors are calculated using a non-relativistic description in terms of constituent quarks. The emphasis is put on the reliability of present numerical methods used to solve the three-body problem in order to correctly reproduce the expected asymptotic behavior of form factors. Nucleon wave functions obtained in the hyperspherical formalism or employing Faddeev equations have been considered. While a q**(-8) behavior is expected at high q for a quark-quark force behaving like 1/r at short distances, it is found that the hypercentral approximation in the hyperspherical formalism (K=0) leads to a q**(-7) behavior. An infinite set of waves is required to get the correct behavior. Solutions of the Faddeev equations lead to the q**(-8) behavior. The amplitude of the corresponding term however depends on the number of partial waves retained in the Faddeev amplitude. The convergence to the asymptotic behavior has also been studied. Sizeable departures are observed in some cases at squared momentum transfers as high as 50 (GeV/c)**2. It is not clear whether these departures are of the order 1/q or 1/q**2 log q relatively to the dominant contribution and whether the bad convergence results from truncations in the calculations. From a comparison with the most complete Faddeev results, a q**2 validity range is obtained for the calculation made in the hyperspherical formalism or in the Faddeev approach with the minimum number of amplitudes.
