Relativistic Continuum Hartree Bogoliubov Theory for Ground State Properties of Exotic Nuclei

The Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, which properly takes into account the pairing correlation and the coupling to (discretized) continuum via Bogoliubov transformation in a microscopic and self-consistent way, has been reviewed together with its new interpretation of the halo phenomena observed in light nuclei as the scattering of particle pairs into the continuum, the prediction of the exotic phenomena -- giant halos in nuclei near neutron drip line, the reproduction of interaction cross sections and charge-changing cross sections in light exotic nuclei in combination with the Glauber theory, better restoration of pseudospin symmetry in exotic nuclei, predictions of exotic phenomena in hyper nuclei, and new magic numbers in superheavy nuclei, etc. Recent investigations on new effective interactions, the density dependence of the interaction strengthes, the RMF theory on the Woods-Saxon basis, the single particle resonant states, and the resonant BCS (rBCS) method for the pairing correlation, etc. are also presented in some details.

Magic numbers for superheavy nuclei in relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov theory

The magic proton and neutron numbers are searched in the superheavy region with proton number $Z$=100 - 140 and neutron number $N$= ($Z$+30) - (2$Z$+32) by the relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory with interactions NL1, NL3, NLSH, TM1, TW99, DD-ME1, PK1, and PK1R. Based on the two-nucleon separation energies $S_{2p}$ and $S_{2n}$, the two-nucleon gaps $δ_{2p}$ and $δ_{2n}$, the shell correction energies $E_{shell}^{p}$ and $E_{shell}^{n}$, the pairing energies $E_{pair}^{p}$ and $E_{pair}^{n}$, and the pairing gaps $Δ_{p}$ and $Δ_{n}$, $Z$=120, 132, and 138 and $N$=172, 184, 198, 228, 238, and 258 are suggested to be the magic numbers within the present approach. The $α$-decay half-lives are also discussed. In addition, the potential energy surfaces of possible doubly magic nuclei are obtained by the deformation-constrained relativistic mean field (RMF) theory, and the shell effects stabilizing the nuclei are investigated. Furthermore, the formation cross sections of $^{292}_{172}$120 and $^{304}_{184}$120 at the optimal excitation energy are estimated by a phenomenological cold fusion reactions model with the structure information extracted from the constrained RMF calculation.

Density dependencies of interaction strengths and their influence on nuclear matter and neutron star in relativistic mean field theory

The density dependencies of various effective interaction strengths in the relativistic mean field are studied and carefully compared for nuclear matter and neutron stars. The influences of different density dependencies are presented and discussed on mean field potentials, saturation properties for nuclear matter, equations of state, maximum masses and corresponding radii for neutron stars. Though the interaction strengths and the potentials given by various interactions are quite different in nuclear matter, the differences of saturation properties are subtle, except for NL2 and TM2, which are mainly used for light nuclei, while the properties by various interactions for pure neutron matter are quite different. To get an equation of state for neutron matter without any ambiguity, it is necessary to constrain the effective interactions either by microscopic many-body calculations for the neutron matter data or the data of nuclei with extreme isospin. For neutron stars, the interaction with large interaction strengths give strong potentials and large Oppenheimer-Volkoff (OV) mass limits. The density-dependent interactions DD-ME1 and TW-99 favor a large neutron population due to their weak $ρ$-meson field at high densities. The OV mass limits calculated from different equations of state are 2.02 $\sim$ 2.81$ M_\odot$, and the corresponding radii are 10.78 $\sim$ 13.27 km. After the inclusion of the hyperons, the corresponding values become 1.52 $\sim$ 2.06 $M_\odot$ and 10.24 $\sim$ 11.38 km.

Description of Chiral Doublets in $A\sim130$ Nuclei and the Possible Chiral Doublets in $A\sim100$ Nuclei

The chiral doublets for nuclei in $A\sim100$ and $A\sim130$ regions have been studied with the particle-rotor model. The experimental spectra of chiral partners bands for four N=75 isotones in $A\sim130$ region have been well reproduced by the calculation with the configuration $πh_{11/2}\otimesνh_{11/2}^{-1}$. The possible chiral doublets in $A\sim100$ region have been predicted by the PRM model with the configuration $πg_{9/2}\otimesνg_{9/2}^{-1}$ based on the analysis of the spectra, the $ω$-I relation, the $B(M1)$ and $B(E2)$ transition probabilities, and the structure of the wave functions. The possible chiral doublets for nuclei with asymmetric particle and hole configuration are also discussed.

Study of Proton Magic Even-Even Isotopes and Giant Halos of Ca Isotopes with Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov Theory

We study the proton magic O, Ca, Ni, Zr, Sn, and Pb isotope chains from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line with the relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory. Particulary, we study in detail the properties of even-even Ca isotopes due to the appearance of giant halos in neutron rich Ca nuclei near the neutron drip line. The RCHB theory is able to reproduce the experimental binding energies $E_b$ and two neutron separation energies $S_{2n}$ very well. The predicted neutron drip line nuclei are $^{28}$O, $^{72}$Ca, $^{98}$Ni, $^{136}$Zr, $^{176}$Sn, and $^{266}$Pb, respectively. Halo and giant halo properties predicted in Ca isotopes with $A>60$ are investigated in detail from the analysis of two neutron separation energies, nucleon density distributions, single particle energy levels, the occupation probabilities of energy levels including continuum states. The spin-orbit splitting and the diffuseness of nuclear potential in these Ca isotopes are studied also. Furthermore, we study the neighboring lighter isotopes in the drip line Ca region and find some possibility of giant halo nuclei in the Ne-Na-Mg drip line nuclei.

Isospin and Z$^{1/3}$ Dependence of the Nuclear Charge Radii

Based on the systematic investigation of the data available for $A \geq 40$, a $Z^{1/3}$ dependence for the nuclear charge radii is shown to be superior to the generally accepted $A^{1/3}$ law. A delicate scattering of data around $R_c/Z^{1/3}$ is infered as owing to the isospin effect and a linear dependence of $R_c/Z^{1/3}$ on $N/Z$ (or $(N-Z)/2$) is found. This inference is well supported by the microscopic Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) calculation conducted for the proton magic Ca, Ni, Zr, Sn and Pb isotopes including the exotic nuclei close to the neutron drip line. With the linear isospin dependence provided by the data and RCHB theory, a new isospin dependent $Z^{1/3}$ formula for the nuclear charge radii is proposed.
