Data-Driven Modeling of Electron Recoil Nucleation in PICO C$_3$F$_8$ Bubble Chambers

The primary advantage of moderately superheated bubble chamber detectors is their simultaneous sensitivity to nuclear recoils from WIMP dark matter and insensitivity to electron recoil backgrounds. A comprehensive analysis of PICO gamma calibration data demonstrates for the first time that electron recoils in C$_3$F$_8$ scale in accordance with a new nucleation mechanism, rather than one driven by a hot-spike as previously supposed. Using this semi-empirical model, bubble chamber nucleation thresholds may be tuned to be sensitive to lower energy nuclear recoils while maintaining excellent electron recoil rejection. The PICO-40L detector will exploit this model to achieve thermodynamic thresholds as low as 2.8 keV while being dominated by single-scatter events from coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering of solar neutrinos. In one year of operation, PICO-40L can improve existing leading limits from PICO on spin-dependent WIMP-proton coupling by nearly an order of magnitude for WIMP masses greater than 3 GeV c$^{-2}$ and will have the ability to surpass all existing non-xenon bounds on spin-independent WIMP-nucleon coupling for WIMP masses from 3 to 40 GeV c$^{-2}$.

A possible solution of $B$ arrow $ππ$ puzzle in Z' model

The discrepancies among the measurements of branching ratios and CP asymmetries of $B$ arrow $ππ$ decays such as large direct CP asymmetry for $B^0 $ arrow $π^+ π^-$ mode and large branching ratio for $B^0$ arrow $π^0 π^0$ mode originate the $B$ arrow $ππ$ puzzle. According to diagrammatic approach of this $b$ arrow $d$ transition the small ratio of color-suppressed amplitude (C) to color-allowed one (T) contradicts between the standard model (SM) approach and the experimental values. To make out the ambiguity we need to scrutinize the decays with different topological amplitudes. In this paper, the decays are studied in the SM by taking different values of C/T as constraints. We find that larger ratio of C/T is explained successfully in the SM but the lower ratio is not for which new physics (NP) is needed. The NP contribution can be included in $B$ arrow $ππ$ decays at tree level by Z' boson. Here, we find that Z' model can explain the puzzle by providing a good solution for lower ratio of C/T.

Implication of Z-mediated FCNC on semileptonic decays $B_s\toϕl^+l^-$ and $B^+\to K^+ l^+ l^-$

Rare B meson decays mediated by flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) transition play interesting role to probe the flavour sector of the standard model (SM). Generally at the tree level, FCNC processes are not allowed in the SM but occurs at the loop levels. This gives an excellent hunting ground for new physics (NP). From various experimental studies it is found that the FCNC processes having quark level transition $b \to s$ are challenging. Here, we investigate different kinematic observables like forward-backward asymmetry, differential branching ratio and lepton polarization asymmetry for semileptonic rare B decay modes $B_s \to ϕl^+ l^-$ and $B^+ \to K^+ l^+ l^-$ ($l= μ,τ$) considering the contribution of Z-mediated FCNC. A noticeable deviation of the observables for these decay channels from the SM value is found because of non-universal $Z$-$bs$ coupling.

Study of $ B_s^0\rightarrow l^+ l^-γ$ decays in the nonuniversal Z' model

We investigate $ B_s^0\rightarrow l^+ l^-γ$ decays in a nonuniversal Z' model derived from extension of the standard model (SM). Considering the Z'-mediated flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) effects we calculate the branching ratio and forwardbackward asymmetry for $ B_s^0\rightarrow l^+ l^-γ$ decay processes. We compare the obtained results with predictions of the SM and discuss the sensitivity of the observables to Z' boson coupling parameters. We find the branching ratios are enhanced by one order from SM predictions in Z' model scenario. We also observe the variation of forward-backward asymmetry with the Z' boson coupling parameters portrait discrimination between NP effects and SM results.

Investigation of rare semileptonic $ B_c$ decays into $(D_(s,d)^((*)))μ^+ μ^-$ decays with non-universal $ Z'$ effect

In this paper, we analyze different decay observables of semileptonic $ B_c$ decays into $(D_(s,d)^((*)))μ^+ μ^-$ such as branching ratio, forward-backward asymmetry, polarization fraction and lepton polarization asymmetry in the non-universal Z' model. We have also studied the dependence of branching fraction to the new model parameters. Here, we have found that the values of different decay parameters increase in the Z' model, which provides a possible way out for the search of new physics as well as the unknown phenomena of charm B meson.

Charged Higgs Contribution on B_c decays into (D_s,D_s^*)l^+ l^-

In this paper, we study rare semileptonic decays of B_c meson in the context of type-I, II, and III two Higgs doublet model. We follow the relativistic quark model for parameterizing the form factors used in matrix elements of weak transitions between the corresponding meson states. We investigate the observables such as branching ratio, lepton polarization asymmetry, forward-backward asymmetry, etc. and analyze the dependence of these quantities on the model parameters. We have found that there are noticeable sensitivity of these observables for charged Higgs boson, which may provide a powerful probe to the standard model and new physics beyond it.

Hadron production in pp and p-Pb collisions: A mass dependent phenomenon

The mass dependence plays a significant role in the yield enhancement or suppression of hadrons in pp and p-Pb collisions at the LHC energies. This has been observed by parameterizing the variation of yield ratios between any two hadrons with event charged-particle multiplicity using a single empirical function. We notice that this variation is independent of all quantum numbers and solely depends on masses of hadrons and masses of their valence quarks. The function shows that the amount of quark deconfinement increases with event multiplicity, and the quark coalescence favours more the production of heavier hadrons compared to lighter ones.

Pressure-induced suppression of charge density wave and emergence of Superconductivity in 1T-VSe2

We report pressure evolution of charge density wave (CDW) order and emergence of superconductivity (SC) in 1T-VSe2 single crystal by studying resistance and magnetoresistance behavior under high pressure. With increasing quasi-hydrostatic pressure the CDW order enhances with increase ofthe ordering temperature up to 240K at 12 GPa. Upon further increase of pressure, the resistance anomaly due to CDW order gets suppressed drastically and superconductivity emerges at ~15 GPa, with the onset critical temperature (Tc) ~ 4K. The pressure dependence of Tc is found negligible, different from the significant increase or a dome-shape seen in iso-structural layered diselenide superconductors. The high pressure magnetoresistance and Hall measurements suggest successive electronic structural changes with Fermi surface modifications at 6 GPa and 12GPa. From the observed negative magnetoresistance in this pressure range and absence of coexisting CDW and SC phases, we propose that intra-layer spin-fluctuation can play a role in the emergence of superconductivity in the high pressure phase.

Dark Matter Search Results from the Complete Exposure of the PICO-60 C$_3$F$_8$ Bubble Chamber

Final results are reported from operation of the PICO-60 C$_3$F$_8$ dark matter detector, a bubble chamber filled with 52 kg of C$_3$F$_8$ located in the SNOLAB underground laboratory. The chamber was operated at thermodynamic thresholds as low as 1.2 keV without loss of stability. A new blind 1404-kg-day exposure at 2.45 keV threshold was acquired with approximately the same expected total background rate as the previous 1167-kg-day exposure at 3.3 keV. This increased exposure is enabled in part by a new optical tracking analysis to better identify events near detector walls, permitting a larger fiducial volume. These results set the most stringent direct-detection constraint to date on the WIMP-proton spin-dependent cross section at 2.5 $\times$ 10$^{-41}$ cm$^2$ for a 25 GeV WIMP, and improve on previous PICO results for 3-5 GeV WIMPs by an order of magnitude.

Study of semileptonic decays $B \to πl^+ l^-$ and $B \to ρl^+ l^-$ in non-universal Z' model

Semileptonic B meson decays induced by $b \to s(d) l^+ l^-$ flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) transitions are very important to probe the quark-flavour sector of the standard model (SM) and also offer a probe to test new physics (NP). Although there exists a lot of precise results on $b \to sl^+ l^-$ induced processes, there is lack of sufficient data for $b \to dl^+ l^-$ induced decays. Here, we are interested to study $B \to πl^+ l^-$ and $B \to ρl^+ l^-$ decays which proceed via $b \to dl^+ l^-$ transition at the quark level. In this work, we investigate the differential branching ratio, forward-backward asymmetry, CP violation asymmetry and lepton polarization asymmetry in these two decay channels in a non-universal Z' model. We find a significant deviation from the SM value of these physical observables for these decays which provide a clear conjecture for NP arising from Z' gauge boson.

Developing a Bubble Chamber Particle Discriminator Using Semi-Supervised Learning

The identification of non-signal events is a major hurdle to overcome for bubble chamber dark matter experiments such as PICO-60. The current practice of manually developing a discriminator function to eliminate background events is difficult when available calibration data is frequently impure and present only in small quantities. In this study, several different discriminator input/preprocessing formats and neural network architectures are applied to the task. First, they are optimized in a supervised learning context. Next, two novel semi-supervised learning algorithms are trained, and found to replicate the Acoustic Parameter (AP) discriminator previously used in PICO-60 with a mean of 97% accuracy.

Implication of family non-universal $Z'$ model to rare exclusive $b \to s(l\bar l,ν\barν)$ transitions

We have investigated $B \to (K,K^*)(l\bar l,ν\barν)$ decay channels and predicted some form factor dependent observables (e.g. branching ratio, forward-backward asymmetry and lepton polarization asymmetry) considering new physics contribution from non-universal $Z'$ model. We have found that there is appreciable difference between the standard model and $Z'$ model predictions. Recently, the lepton flavour non-universality parameters $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ have been measured by the LHCb collaboration and are found to be different from their standard model predictions. These deviations provide the hint of flavor non-universality in lepton sector and motivate our research to look for new physics beyond the standard model. The $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ anomalies may be due to new physics in either electron or muon sector or both. In our work, we have shown that the experimental results of $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ could be achieved in non-universal $Z'$ model considering the new physics couplings to muon sector only.

Non-symmetrized quantum noise in a Kondo quantum dot

The fluctuations of electrical current provide information on the dynamics of electrons in quantum devices. Understanding the nature of these fluctuations in a quantum dot is thus a crucial step insofar as this system is the elementary brick of quantum circuits. In this context, we develop a theory for calculating the quantum noise at finite frequency in a quantum dot connected to two reservoirs in the presence of interactions and for any symmetry of the couplings to the reservoirs. This theory is developed in the framework of the Keldysh non-equilibrium Green function technique. We establish an analytical expression for the quantum noise in terms of the various transmission amplitudes between the reservoirs and of some effective transmission coefficient which we define. We then study the noise as a function of the dot energy level and the bias voltage. The effects of both Coulomb interactions in the dot and asymmetric couplings with the reservoirs are characterized.

Emission Noise in an Interacting Quantum Dot: Role of Inelastic Scattering and Asymmetric Coupling to the Reservoirs

A theory is developed for the emission noise at frequency $ν$ in a quantum dot in the presence of Coulomb interactions and asymmetric couplings to the reservoirs. We give an analytical expression for the noise in terms of the various transmission amplitudes. Including inelastic scattering contribution, it can be seen as the analog of the Meir-Wingreen formula for the current. A physical interpretation is given on the basis of the transmission of one electron-hole pair to the concerned reservoir where it emits an energy after recombination. We then treat the interactions by solving the self-consistent equations of motion for the Green functions. The results for the noise derivative versus $eV$ show a zero value until $eV = hν$, followed by a Kondo peak in the Kondo regime, in good agreement with recent measurements in carbon nanotube quantum dots.

Analysis of $Λ_b\rightarrowΛl^+ l^-$ rare decays in a non-universal $Z'$ model

We investigate the rare baryonic $Λ_b\rightarrowΛl^+ l^-$ decays in a non-universal $Z'$ model, which is one of the well-motivated extensions of the standard model (SM). Considering the effects of $Z'$-mediated flavour-changing neutral currents (FCNCs) we analyse the differential decay rate, forward-backward asymmetries and lepton polarisation asymmetries for the $Λ_b\rightarrowΛl^+ l^-$ decays. We find significant deviations from their SM predictions, which could indicate new physics arising from the $Z'$ gauge boson.

Implications of lepton nonuniversality in the beauty sector

The phenomenon of CP violation in the standard model (SM) framework and the decay dynamics have been established from the data obtained from the B factories and so far we have not seen anything new. Nevertheless, there have been instances of deviations in many measured observables in the flavor sector, as far as the data and predictions are concerned. Here we will mention some deviations obtained in measurements related to lepton universality, as seen from the data, and try to understand their implications. To accommodate the observed data we will consider a leptoquark model, which seems to be one interesting model beyond the SM.

Ferrielectricity in an Organic Ferroelectric

We report ferrielectricity in a single-phase crystal, TSCC -- tris-sarcosine calcium chloride [(CH3NHCH2COOH)3CaCl2]. Ferrielectricity is well known in smectic liquid crystals but almost unknown in true crystalline solids. Pulvari reported it in 1960 in mixtures of ferroelectrics and antiferroelectrics, but only at high fields. TSCC exhibits a second-order displacive phase transition near Tc = 130 K that can be lowered to a Quantum Critical Point at zero Kelvin via Br- or I-substitution, and phases predicted to be antiferroelectric at high pressure and low temperatures. Unusually, the size of the primitive unit cell does not increase. We measure hysteresis loops and polarization below T = 64 K and clear Raman evidence for this transition, as well of another transition near 47-50 K. X-ray and neutron studies below Tc = 130K show there is an antiferroelectric displacement out of plane of two sarcosine groups; but these are antiparallel displacements are of different magnitude, leading to a bias voltage that grows with decreasing T. A monoclinic subgroup C2 may be possible at the lowest temperatures (T<64K or T<48K), but no direct evidence exists for a crystal class lower than orthorhombic.

Formulation and solutions of fractional continuously variable order mass spring damper systems controlled by viscoelastic and viscous-viscoelastic dampers

The article presents the formulation and a new approach to find analytic solutions for fractional continuously variable order dynamic models viz. Fractional continuously variable order mass-spring damper systems. Here, we use the viscoelastic and viscous-viscoelastic dampers for describing the damping nature of the oscillating systems, where the order of fractional derivative varies continuously. Here, we handle the continuous changing nature of fractional order derivative for dynamic systems, which has not been studied yet. By successive iteration method, here we find the solution of fractional continuously variable order mass-spring damper systems, and then give a close form solution. We then present and discuss the solutions obtained in the cases with continuously variable order of damping for this oscillator with graphical plots.
