Voltage-tuned anomalous-metal to metal transition in hybrid Josephson junction arrays

We report voltage-tuned phase transitions in arrays of hybrid semiconductor-superconductor islands arranged in a square lattice. A double-layer electrostatic gate geometry enables independent tuning of inter-island coupling and proximity-induced superconductivity. This design enables access to the superconductor-insulator, superconductor-metal, and metal-insulator transitions in a single device, revealing critical points and emergent intermediate phases. We find that the superconductor-insulator transition is interrupted by an anomalous metallic phase with saturating low-temperature resistivity. Across gate voltages, this regime extends over three orders of magnitude in resistivity and can be continuously tuned into the conventional metallic phase. The signature of the anomalous metallic phase is suppressed by magnetic frustration.

Unbounded Sharing of Nonlocality Using Projective Measurements

It is a common perception that a sharp projective measurement in one side of the Bell experiment destroys the entanglement of the shared state, thereby preventing the demonstration of sequential sharing of nonlocality. In contrast, we introduce a local randomness-assisted projective measurement protocol, enabling the sharing of nonlocality by an arbitrary number of sequential observers (Bobs) with a single spatially separated party Alice. Subsequently, a crucial feature of the interplay between the degrees of incompatibility of observables of both parties is revealed, enabling the unbounded sharing of nonlocality. Our findings, not only offer a new paradigm for understanding the fundamental nature of incompatibility in demonstrating quantum nonlocality but also pave a new path for various information processing tasks based on local randomness-assisted projective measurement.

Evidence of topological gap opening in the surface state of Bi$_2$Se$_3$ by proximity to a magnetic insulator

Topological insulators are bulk insulators with exotic surface states, protected under time-reversal symmetry, that hold promise in observing many exciting condensed-matter phenomena. In this report, we show that by having a topological insulator (Bi$_2$Se$_3$) in proximity to a magnetic insulator (EuS), a metal-to-insulator transition in the surface state, attributed to opening of an exchange gap, can be observed whose properties are tunable using bottom gate voltage and external magnetic field. Our study provides evidence of gate-controlled enhanced interface magnetism with the signature of half-integer quantum Hall effect when the Fermi level is tuned into the exchange gap. These results pave the way for using magnetic proximity effect in developing topological electronic devices.
