Large deviations for the leaves in some random trees

Large deviation principles and related results are given for a class of Markov chains associated to the "leaves" in random recursive trees and preferential attachment random graphs, as well as the "cherries" in Yule trees. In particular, the method of proof, combining analytic and Dupuis-Ellis type path arguments, allows for an explicit computation of the large deviation pressure.

Existence of the zero range process and a deposition model with superlinear growth rates

We give a construction of the zero range and bricklayers' processes in the totally asymmetric, attractive case. The novelty is that we allow jump rates to grow exponentially. Earlier constructions have permitted at most linearly growing rates. We also show the invariance and extremality of a natural family of i.i.d. product measures indexed by particle density. Extremality is proved with an approach that is simpler than existing ergodicity proofs.

Growth of preferential attachment random graphs via continuous-time branching processes

A version of ``preferential attachment'' random graphs, corresponding to linear ``weights'' with random ``edge additions,'' which generalizes some previously considered models, is studied. This graph model is embedded in a continuous-time branching scheme and, using the branching process apparatus, several results on the graph model asymptotics are obtained, some extending previous results, such as growth rates for a typical degree and the maximal degree, behavior of the vertex where the maximal degree is attained, and a law of large numbers for the empirical distribution of degrees which shows certain ``scale-free'' or ``power-law'' behaviors.
