Miura-reciprocal transformations and localizable Poisson pencils

We show that the equivalence classes of deformations of localizable semisimple Poisson pencils of hydrodynamic type with respect to the action of the Miura-reciprocal group contain a local representative and are in one-to-one correspondence with the equivalence classes of deformations of local semisimple Poisson pencils of hydrodynamic type with respect to the action of the Miura group.

Enumeration of hypermaps and Hirota equations for extended rationally constrained KP

We consider the Hurwitz Dubrovin--Frobenius manifold structure on the space of meromorphic functions on the Riemann sphere with exactly two poles, one simple and one of arbitrary order. We prove that the all genera partition function (also known as the total descendant potential) associated with this Dubrovin--Frobenius manifold is a tau function of a rational reduction of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili hierarchy. This statement was conjectured by Liu, Zhang, and Zhou. We also provide a partial enumerative meaning for this partition function associating one particular set of times with enumeration of rooted hypermaps.

Higher genera Catalan numbers and Hirota equations for extended nonlinear Schroedinger hierarchy

We consider the Dubrovin--Frobenius manifold of rank $2$ whose genus expansion at a special point controls the enumeration of a higher genera generalization of the Catalan numbers, or, equivalently, the enumeration of maps on surfaces, ribbon graphs, Grothendieck's dessins d'enfants, strictly monotone Hurwitz numbers, or lattice points in the moduli spaces of curves. Liu, Zhang, and Zhou conjectured that the full partition function of this Dubrovin--Frobenius manifold is a tau-function of the extended nonlinear Schr\"odinger hierarchy, an extension of a particular rational reduction of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili hierarchy. We prove a version of their conjecture specializing the Givental--Milanov method that allows to construct the Hirota quadratic equations for the partition function, and then deriving from them the Lax representation.

Ramifications of Hurwitz theory, KP integrability and quantum curves

In this paper we revisit several recent results on monotone and strictly monotone Hurwitz numbers, providing new proofs. In particular, we use various versions of these numbers to discuss methods of derivation of quantum spectral curves from the point of view of KP integrability and derive new examples of quantum curves for the families of double Hurwitz numbers.

Combinatorics of loop equations for branched covers of sphere

We prove, in a purely combinatorial way, the spectral curve topological recursion for the problem of enumeration of bi-colored maps, which are dual objects to dessins d'enfant. Furthermore, we give a proof of the quantum spectral curve equation for this problem. Then we consider the generalized case of 4-colored maps and outline the idea of the proof of the corresponding spectral curve topological recursion.

Equivalence of ELSV and Bouchard-Mari\~no conjectures for $r$-spin Hurwitz numbers

We propose two conjectures on Huwritz numbers with completed $(r+1)$-cycles, or, equivalently, on certain relative Gromov-Witten invariants of the projective line. The conjectures are analogs of the ELSV formula and of the Bouchard-Mari\~no conjecture for ordinary Hurwitz numbers. Our $r$-ELSV formula is an equality between a Hurwitz number and an integral over the space of $r$-spin structures, that is, the space of stable curves with an $r$th root of the canonical bundle. Our $r$-BM conjecture is the statement that $n$-point functions for Hurwitz numbers satisfy the topological recursion associated with the spectral curve $x = -y^r + \log y$ in the sense of Chekhov, Eynard, and Orantin. We show that the $r$-ELSV formula and the $r$-BM conjecture are equivalent to each other and provide some evidence for both.

Givental graphs and inversion symmetry

Inversion symmetry is a very non-trivial discrete symmetry of Frobenius manifolds. It was obtained by Dubrovin from one of the elementary Schlesinger transformations of a special ODE associated to a Frobenius manifold. In this paper, we review the Givental group action on Frobenius manifolds in terms of Feynman graphs and obtain an interpretation of the inversion symmetry in terms of the action of the Givental group. We also consider the implication of this interpretation of the inversion symmetry for the Schlesinger transformations and for the Hamiltonians of the associated principle hierarchy.

Integrals of psi-classes over double ramification cycles

DR-cycles are certain cycles on the moduli space of curves. Intuitively, they parametrize curves that allow a map to \mathbb{P}^1 with some specified ramification profile over two points. They are known to be tautological classes, but in general there is no known expression in terms of standard tautological classes. In this paper, we compute the intersection numbers of those DR-cycles with any monomials in psi-classes when this intersection is zero-dimensional.

Identification of the Givental formula with the spectral curve topological recursion procedure

We identify the Givental formula for the ancestor formal Gromov-Witten potential with a version of the topological recursion procedure for a collection of isolated local germs of the spectral curve. As an application we prove a conjecture of Norbury and Scott on the reconstruction of the stationary sector of the Gromov-Witten potential of $\CP1$ via a particular spectral curve.

On deformations of quasi-Miura transformations and the Dubrovin-Zhang bracket

In our recent paper we proved the polynomiality of a Poisson bracket for a class of infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems of PDE's associated to semi-simple Frobenius structures. In the conformal (homogeneous) case, these systems are exactly the hierarchies of Dubrovin-Zhang, and the bracket is the first Poisson structure of their hierarchy. Our approach was based on a very involved computation of a deformation formula for the bracket with respect to the Givental-Y.-P. Lee Lie algebra action. In this paper, we discuss the structure of that deformation formula. In particular, we reprove it using a deformation formula for weak quasi-Miura transformation that relates our hierarchy of PDE's with its dispersionless limit.

On double Hurwitz numbers with completed cycles

In this paper, we collect a number of facts about double Hurwitz numbers, where the simple branch points are replaced by their more general analogues --- completed (r+1)-cycles. In particular, we give a geometric interpretation of these generalised Hurwitz numbers and derive a cut-and-join operator for completed (r+1)-cycles. We also prove a strong piecewise polynomiality property in the sense of Goulden-Jackson-Vakil. In addition, we propose a conjectural ELSV/GJV-type formula, that is, an expression in terms of some intrinsic combinatorial constants that might be related to the intersection theory of some analogues of the moduli space of curves. The structure of these conjectural "intersection numbers" is discussed in detail.

A polynomial bracket for the Dubrovin--Zhang hierarchies

We define a hierarchy of Hamiltonian PDEs associated to an arbitrary tau-function in the semi-simple orbit of the Givental group action on genus expansions of Frobenius manifolds. We prove that the equations, the Hamiltonians, and the bracket are weighted-homogeneous polynomials in the derivatives of the dependent variables with respect to the space variable. In the particular case of a conformal (homogeneous) Frobenius structure, our hierarchy coincides with the Dubrovin-Zhang hierarchy that is canonically associated to the underlying Frobenius structure. Therefore, our approach allows to prove the polynomiality of the equations, Hamiltonians and one of the Poisson brackets of these hierarchies, as conjectured by Dubrovin and Zhang.

A remark on deformations of Hurwitz Frobenius manifolds

In this note we use the formalism of multi-KP hierarchies in order to give some general formulas for infinitesimal deformations of solutions of the Darboux-Egoroff system. As an application, we explain how Shramchenko's deformations of Frobenius manifold structures on Hurwitz spaces fit into the general formalism of Givental-van de Leur twisted loop group action on the space of semi-simple Frobenius manifolds.

A new proof of Faber's intersection number conjecture

We give a new proof of Faber's intersection number conjecture concerning the top intersections in the tautological ring of the moduli space of curves $\M_g$. The proof is based on a very straightforward geometric and combinatorial computation with double ramification cycles.

BCOV theory via Givental group action on cohomological field theories

In a previous paper (arXiv:0704.1001), Losev, me, and Shneiberg constructed a full descendant potential associated to an arbitrary cyclic Hodge dGBV algebra. This contruction extended the construction of Barannikov and Kontsevich of solution of the WDVV equation, based on the earlier paper of Bershadsky, Cecotti, Ooguri, and Vafa. In the present paper, we give an interpretation of this full descendant potential in terms of Givental group action on cohomological field theories. In particular, the fact that it satisfies all tautological equations becomes a trivial observation.

On the structure of Goulden-Jackson-Vakil formula

We study the structure of the Goulden-Jackson-Vakil formula that relates Hurwitz numbers to some conjectural "intersection numbers" on a conjectural family of varieties $X_{g,n}$ of dimension $4g-3+n$. We give explicit formulas for the properly arranged generating function for these "intersection numbers", and prove that it satisfies Hirota equations. This generalizes and substantially simplifies our earlier results with Zvonkine in arXiv:math/0602457.

Wheeled PROPs, graph complexes and the master equation

We introduce and study wheeled PROPs, an extension of the theory of PROPs which can treat traces and, in particular, solutions to the master equations which involve divergence operators. We construct a dg free wheeled PROP whose representations are in one-to-one correspondence with formal germs of SP-manifolds, key geometric objects in the theory of Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization. We also construct minimal wheeled resolutions of classical operads Com and Ass as rather non-obvious extensions of Com_infty and Ass_infty, involving, e.g., a mysterious mixture of associahedra with cyclohedra. Finally, we apply the above results to a computation of cohomology of a directed version of Kontsevich's complex of ribbon graphs.
