Quark and Gluon Orbital Angular Momentum and Spin in Hard Processes

We suggest a method of constructing gauge invariant quark and gluon distributions that describe an abstract QCD observable and apply this method to analyze angular momentum of a hadron. In addition to the known quark and gluon polarized structure functions, we obtain gauge invariant distributions for quark and gluon orbital angular momenta, and consider some basic properties of these distributions and their moments.

Quark States near a Threshold and the Unstable H-dibaryon

We consider the interplay of a quark state and a hadronic threshold in the framework of the P-matrix formalism, which is reviewed and extended for use together with conventional methods of computing quark-gluon dynamics. We provide a quantitative dynamical interpretation of the reduced R or K matrices and their poles that suggests a natural classification of threshold phenomena. At a threshold with a quark state close to it up to three S-matrix poles can be found. The scattering amplitudes for the corresponding cases are discussed. Our analysis is applied to make an outlook for experimental observation of the doubly strange H-dibaryon if it is not stable to strong decays.

Quark States Near a Threshold

We reduce the problem of many-channel hadron scattering at nonrelativistic energies to calculations on the scale of a few fermis. Having thus disentangled kinematics from interior quark dynamics, we study their interplay when a quark state occurs near a hadronic threshold. Characteristic parameters, such as the observed peak width, the decay width, and the shape of a cross-section itself are highly affected by the threshold. A general pole-form expression for the S-matrix in an arbitrary background is given, and the pole structure of S is examined. We show that at a hadronic threshold two poles in S are generally important. We also classify the S-matrix pole structure considering an example where nonsingular coupled channels are closed at the threshold. The framework of our paper is the P-matrix formalism, which is reviewed and extended for use together with conventional methods of computing quark-gluon dynamics. Results and applications are illustrated for the doubly strange two-baryon system, the detailed analysis of which we postpone till our forthcoming paper.

$K\bar{K}$ Threshold Phenomena, $f_0-a_0$ Interference and Kaonium Production

We develop a new formalism to study $K\bar{K}$ threshold phenomena with resonances $f_0$, $a_0$ and $K^+K^-$ atom (kaonium) included. The approach provides two possible scenarios for $f_0-a_0$ mixing. Drastic interference patterns can be observed in $K^+K^-$electroproduction at CEBAF, $pd\to ~^3HeX$ reaction, and $N\bar N$ annihilation.

Reexamination of KKbar Threshold Phenomena with K+K- Atom Included

We develop a general framework to study KKbar threshold phenomena with resonances f0, a0 and K+K- atom included. Based on this formalism we predict that the production of the K+K- atom in p+d=3He+X and similar reactions exhi- bits a drastic energy dependence due to the interplay with resonances f0 (980) and a0 (980). We point out that a set of few parameters describes KKbar threshold effects, f0 and a0 mesons, and K+K- atom. Our hope is that precision experimental study aimed at determining these parameters may shed more light on the nature of f0 and a0 resonances.
