Flux-integrated inclusive and pionless cross sections for charged-current neutrino scattering off ${}^{40}\text{Ar}$ at energies available in the MicroBooNE experiment

In this work, we analyze the flux-integrated inclusive and pionless differential cross sections for neutrino scattering off argon. The cross sections are calculated using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation (RDWIA), taking into account the contribution of the two-particle-two-hole (2p-2h) meson-exchange currents (MEC). We find that the measured single- and double-differential cross sections can be well described within the experimental uncertainties using this approach. We also compare the differential cross sections for pionless neutrino scattering on carbon and argon, measured with the Booster Neutrino Beam flux in the MiniBooNE and MicroBooNE experiments, to study nuclear effects in these nuclei.

Test of the GENIE neutrino event generator against reduced cross sections extracted from ${}^{16}$O $(e,e'p)$ data

The reduced cross section of the semiexclusive $(l,l'p)$ lepton scat tering process irrespective of the type of interaction is determined mainly by bound nucleon momentum distribution in target and nucleon final state interaction with residual nucleus. These cross sections can be identified with distorted nuclear spectral functions and therefore are similar up to Coulomb c orrections for neutrino and electron scattering on nuclei. In this article we exploit this similarity and use data with precise kinematics and large statistics for semiexclusive electron scattering on oxygen target to test models employed in the GENIE neutrino event generator. We find that these models can not reproduce well the measured reduced cross sections in all allowed kinematic region and the GENIE event generator needs to better describe both the nuclear ground states and nucleon final state interaction. The approach presented in this paper provides a great opportunity to test better the accuracy of nuclear models of quasielastic neutrino-nucleus scattering, employed in neutrino event generators.

Assessing the accuracy of the GENIE event generator with electron scattering data: Reduced cross section and nuclear transparency

The reduced cross sections of the semi-exclusive $(l,l'p)$ lepton scattering process can be identified with distorted nuclear spectral functions. Irrespective of the type of interaction the distorted spectral function is determined mainly by intrinsic properties of the target and the ejected nucleon interaction with residual nucleus. Thus the reduced cross sections of the neutrino and electron scattering on nuclei as functions of nucleon missing momentum and energy are similar up to Coulomb corrections. Here we demonstrate the utility of this approach by benchmarking the GENIE neutrino event generator against a broad set of semi-exclusive electron scattering data for carbon target. We observe persistent disagreements between the generator predictions and data in the range of nucleon missing momenta less than 80 MeV/c. The approach presented in this paper provide a great opportunity to test better the accuracy of nuclear models of quasi-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering, employed in neutrino event generators.

Inclusive electron scattering off $^{12}$C, ${}^{40}$Ca, and ${}^{40}$Ar: effects of the meson exchange currents

The scattering of electrons on carbon, calcium, and argon targets are analyzed using an approach that incorporates the contributions to the electromagnetic response functions from the quasielastic (QE), inelastic processes, and two-particle and two-hole meson exchange current ($2p-2h$ MEC). This approach describes well the whole energy spectrum of data at very different kinematics. It is shown that the accuracy of the $(e,e')$ cross section calculations in the region between the QE and delta-resonance peaks, where the $2p-2h$ MEC contribution reaches its maximum value, depends on the momentum transfer $|\q|$ and at $|\q|>500$ MeV the calculated and measured cross sections are in agreement within the experimental uncertainties.

Testing of quasi-elastic neutrino charged-current and two-body meson exchange current models with the MiniBooNE neutrino data and analysis of these processes at energies available at the NOvA experiment

The charged-current quasi-elastic (CCQE) scattering of muon neutrinos on a carbon target is analyzed using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation (RDWIA) taking into account the contribution of the two-particle and two-hole meson exchange current ($2p-2h$ MEC) to the weak response functions. A fit the RDWIA+MEC model to the MiniBooNE neutrino data is performed and the best fit value of nucleon axial mass $M_A=1.2 \pm 0.06$ GeV is obtained. We also extract the values of the axial form factor $F_A(Q^2)$ as a function of the squared momentum transfer $Q^2$ from the measured $dσ/dQ^2$ cross section. The flux-integrated CCQE-like differential cross sections for neutrino scattering at energies of the NOvA experiment are estimated within the RDWIA+MEC approach.

Quasi-elastic neutrino charged-current scattering off $^{12}$C: effects of the meson exchange currents and large nucleon axial mass

The quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrino and electrons on a carbon target are analyzed using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation (RDWIA). We also evaluate the contribution of the two-particle and two-hole meson exchange current ($2p-2h$ MEC) to electroweak response functions. The nuclear model dependence of the (anti)neutrino cross sections is studied within the RDWIA+MEC approach and RDWIA model with the large nucleon axial mass. It is shown that the results for the squared momentum transfer distribution $dσ/dQ^2$ and for invariant mass of the final hadronic system distribution $dσ/dW$ obtained within these models are substantially different.
