CoLoRFulNNLO for color-singlet processes: An update on NNLOCAL

We give an update on the status of NNLOCAL, a parton-level Monte Carlo program implementing the extension of the completely local subtraction scheme CoLoRFulNNLO to color-singlet production in hadron-hadron collisions. The construction of the counterterms in our scheme is generic, being based on the standard IR factorization formulae of QCD. Furthermore, the integration of the counterterms over the phase space of unresolved emissions is performed fully analytically, allowing for good control of the numerical stability of our predictions. We validate our method by computing NNLO corrections to fully differential cross sections for the LHC.

CoLoRFulNNLO for hadron collisions: integrating the iterated single unresolved subtraction terms

We present the analytic integration of the iterated single-unresolved subtraction terms in the extension of the CoLoRFulNNLO subtraction scheme to color-singlet production in hadron collisions. We exploit the fact that, in this scheme, subtraction terms are defined through momentum mappings which lead to exact phase space convolutions for real emissions. This allows us to write the integrated subtraction terms as parametric integrals, which can be evaluated using standard tools. Finally, we show that the integrated iterated single-unresolved approximate cross section can be written as a convolution of the Born cross section with an appropriately defined insertion operator.

Anomalous dimensions for exclusive processes

We give an overview of recent developments in the computation of the anomalous dimension matrix of composite operators in non-forward kinematics. The elements of this matrix set the evolution of non-perturbative parton distributions such as the generalized parton distribution functions. The latter provide important information about hadronic structure and are accessible experimentally in hard exclusive scattering processes. We focus our discussion on a recent method that exploits consistency relations for the anomalous dimensions which follow from the renormalization structure of quark and gluon operators.

CoLoRFul for hadron collisions: Integrating the counterterms

In order to numerically compute scattering cross sections in QCD, one needs to deal with various kinematic divergences that appear at intermediate stages of the calculation. One way of doing this is by setting up an IR subtraction scheme. In this talk we give an update on the status of extending the CoLoRFul subtraction scheme, which has been successfully used in the past for processes with only final-state hadrons, to hadron-hadron collisions. In particular we discuss the analytic computation of the integrated counterterms.

Alien operators for PDF evolution

Understanding the scale dependence of parton distribution functions is vital for precision physics at hadron colliders. The well-known DGLAP evolution equation relates this scale dependence to the QCD splitting functions, which can be calculated perturbatively in terms of the anomalous dimensions of leading-twist gauge-invariant operators. The computation of the latter in general requires one to take into account contributions of gauge-variant (or alien) operators. In this talk, we discuss the systematic study of these alien operators at arbitrary spin. Specifically, using generalized BRST symmetry relations, we derive the one-loop couplings and Feynman rules of the aliens necessary to perform the operator renormalization up to four loops in QCD. This provides an important step towards the determination of the four-loop splitting functions which will be of significant phenomenological importance at future colliders.

NNLOCAL: completely local subtractions for color-singlet production in hadron collisions

We present NNLOCAL, a proof-of-concept parton-level Monte Carlo program implementing the extension of the completely local subtraction scheme CoLoRFulNNLO to the case of color-singlet production in hadron collisions. We have built general local subtraction terms that regularize all single and double unresolved infrared singularities in real radiation phase space. The subtractions are then integrated fully analytically to the required order in the parameter of dimensional regularization. Combining the integrated counterterms with the virtual contributions we demonstrate the cancellation of all infrared poles explicitly. We validate our procedure by computing the fully differential cross section for the production of a Higgs boson at the LHC in an effective field theory with gluons only. Our code provides the first public implementation of a completely local analytic subtraction scheme at next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy.

Basis transformation properties of anomalous dimensions for hard exclusive processes

When considering the renormalization of composite operators for the description of hard exclusive scattering processes, two types of operator basis called the derivative basis and the Gegenbauer basis are often used in the literature. In this work we set up the explicit similarity transformations between these two bases, both for quark and gluon operators. This way, one can use the properties of both bases to their advantage in the computation of the operator anomalous dimensions, which describe the scale dependence of non-perturbative non-forward parton distributions. We provide several applications of our framework. As an application of the gluon transformation formula, we compute the one-loop non-forward purely gluonic anomalous dimension matrix. For the rest of the applications we focus on the transformation formula of the quark operator. We derive the Gegenbauer anomalous dimensions, in the limit of a large number of quark flavors $n_f$, to all orders in the strong coupling $α_s$, extending the computation previously performed in the derivative basis. Next a numeric calculation of the two-loop anomalous dimensions in the derivative basis beyond the leading-color limit is presented. Finally, we discuss a novel way of validating existing computations of the conformal anomaly based on the leading-color anomalous dimensions in the derivative basis.

Constraints for twist-two alien operators in QCD

Parton evolution equations in QCD are controlled by the anomalous dimensions of gauge-invariant twist-two spin-$N$ quark and gluon operators. Under renormalization, these mix with gauge-variant operators of the same quantum numbers, referred to as alien operators. Our work addresses the systematic study of these alien operators at arbitrary spin $N$, using generalized BRST symmetry relations to derive their couplings and Feynman rules at all values of $N$. We observe how the all-$N$ structure of the generalized (anti-)BRST constraints relates the couplings of alien operators with $n+1$ gluons to those with $n$ gluons. Realizing a bootstrap, we present all one-loop results necessary for performing the operator renormalization up to four loops in QCD.

All-order Feynman rules for leading-twist gauge-invariant operators in QCD

We present the Feynman rules for leading-twist gauge-invariant quark and gluon operators with an arbitrary number of total derivatives and applicable to any order in perturbation theory. This generalizes previous results and constitutes a necessary ingredient in the computation of the matrix elements of the corresponding operators. The results are written in a form appropriate for implementation in a computer algebra system. To illustrate the latter we provide implementations in Mathematica and FORM, which are made available at https://github.com/vtsam/NKLO.

Anomalous dimensions for hard exclusive processes

We give an overview of recent developments in the computation of the anomalous dimension matrix of composite operators in non-forward kinematics. The elements of this matrix determine the scale dependence of non-perturbative parton distributions, such as GPDs, and hence constitute important input for phenomenological studies of exclusive processes like deeply-virtual Compton scattering. Particular emphasis will be put on a recently developed method that exploits consistency relations for the anomalous dimension matrix which follow from the renormalization structure of the operators.

Off-forward anomalous dimensions in the leading-$n_f$ limit

We review the computation of off-forward anomalous dimensions in the limit of a large number of quark flavors $n_f$. The method is based on a consistency relation the anomalous dimensions have to obey, which is a direct consequence of the renormalization structure of the operators in the chiral limit. In addition, we present a way to generate the anomalous dimensions to all orders in the strong coupling $α_s$. This is based on exact conformal symmetry at the Wilson-Fisher critical point and provides an extension of previous calculations of this type for the forward anomalous dimensions.

Off-forward anomalous dimensions of non-singlet transversity operators

We determine the anomalous dimension matrix for the transversity operator mixing into total derivative operators in the limit of a large number of quark flavors $n_f$ to fourth order in the strong coupling $α_s$ in the $\overline{\text{MS}}$-scheme. This is achieved by using a consistency relation between the operator anomalous dimensions, which follows from the renormalization structure of the operators in the chiral limit.

Renormalization of non-singlet quark operator matrix elements for off-forward hard scattering

We calculate non-singlet quark operator matrix elements of deep-inelastic scattering in the chiral limit including operators with total derivatives. This extends previous calculations with zero-momentum transfer through the operator vertex which provides the well-known anomalous dimensions for the evolution of parton distributions, as well as calculations in off-forward kinematics utilizing conformal symmetry. Non-vanishing momentum-flow through the operator vertex leads to mixing with total derivative operators under renormalization. In the limit of a large number of quark flavors $n_f$ and for low moments in full QCD, we determine the anomalous dimension matrix to fifth order in the perturbative expansion in the strong coupling $α_s$ in the $\overline{\mbox{MS}}$-scheme. We exploit consistency relations for the anomalous dimension matrix which follow from the renormalization structure of the operators, combined with a direct calculation of the relevant diagrams up to fourth order.
