$πη$ pair hard electroproduction and exotic hybrid mesons

We show that hard electroproduction is a promising way to study exotic hybrid mesons, in particular through the hybrid decay channel $H \to πη$. We discuss the $πη$ generalized distribution amplitude, calculate the production amplitude and propose a forward-backward asymmetry as a signal for the hybrid meson production.

Exotic hybrid mesons in hard electroproduction

We estimate the sizeable cross section for deep exclusive electroproduction of an exotic $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ hybrid meson in the Bjorken regime. The production amplitude scales like the one for usual meson electroproduction, i.e. as $1/Q^2$. This is due to the non-vanishing leading twist distribution amplitude for the hybrid meson, which may be normalized thanks to its relation to the energy momentum tensor and to the QCD sum rules technique. The hard amplitude is considered up to next-to-leading order in $α_{S}$ and we explore the consequences of fixing the renormalization scale ambiguity through the BLM procedure. We study the particular case where the hybrid meson decays through a $πη$ meson pair. We discuss the $πη$ generalized distribution amplitude and then calculate the production amplitude for this process. We propose a forward-backward asymmetry in the production of $π$ and $η$ mesons as a signal for the hybrid meson production. We briefly comment on hybrid electroproduction at very high energy, in the diffractive limit where a QCD Odderon exchange mechanism should dominate. The conclusion of our study is that hard electroproduction is a promissing way to study exotic hybrid mesons, in particular at JLAB, HERA (HERMES) or CERN (Compass).

Hard Exclusive QCD Processes at the Linear Collider

The next generation of $e^+e^-$ colliders will offer a possibility of clean testing of QCD dynamics. Recent progress in the theoretical description of exclusive processes permits for many of them a consistent use of the perturbative QCD methods. We find that already on the basis of Born approximation, the exclusive diffractive production of two $ρ$ mesons from virtual photons at very high energies should be measurable at the linear collider (LC).

Deep electroproduction of exotic hybrid mesons

We evaluate the leading order amplitude for the deep exclusive electroproduction of an exotic hybrid meson in the Bjorken regime. We show that, contrary to naive expectation, this amplitude factorizes at the twist 2 level and thus scales like usual meson electroproduction when the virtual photon and the hybrid meson are longitidinally polarized. Exotic hybrid mesons may thus be studied in electroproduction experiments at JLAB, HERA (HERMES) or CERN (COMPASS).

Geometric scaling in exclusive processes

We show that according to the present understanding of the energy evolution of the observables measured in deep-inelastic scattering, the photon-proton scattering amplitude has to exhibit geometric scaling at each impact parameter. We suggest a way to test it experimentally at HERA. A qualitative analysis based on published data is presented and discussed.

$γ^*γ^*$ total cross-section in the dipole picture of BFKL dynamics

The total $γ^*γ^*$ cross-section is derived in the Leading Order QCD dipole picture of BFKL dynamics, and compared with the one from 2-gluon exchange. The Double Leading Logarithm approximation of the DGLAP cross-section is found to be small in the phase space studied. Cross sections are calculated for realistic data samples at the $e^+e^-$ collider LEP and a future high energy linear collider. Next to Leading order corrections to the BFKL evolution have been determined phenomenologically, and are found to give very large corrections to the BFKL cross-section, leading to a reduced sensitivity for observing BFKL.

The equivalence between the color dipole model and the BFKL Pomeron at leading order

We compute the onium-onium scattering amplitude at fixed impact parameter in the framework of the perturbative QCD dipole model. Relying on the conformal properties of the dipole cascade and of the elementary dipole-dipole scattering amplitude, we obtain an exact result for this onium-onium scattering amplitude, which is proved to be identical to the BFKL result, and which is frame invariant. The asymptotic expression for this amplitude at fixed impact parameter agrees with previous numerical simulations.

Onium-Onium scattering at fixed impact parameter: exact equivalence between the color dipole model and the BFKL Pomeron

We compute the onium-onium scattering amplitude at fixed impact parameter in the framework of the perturbative QCD dipole model. Relying on conformal properties of the dipole cascade and of the elementary dipole-dipole scattering amplitude, we obtain an exact result for this onium-onium scattering amplitude, which is proven to be identical to the BFKL result, and which exhibits the frame invariance of the calculation. The asymptotic expression for this amplitude and for the dipole distribution in an onium at fixed impact parameter agree with previous numerical simulations. We show how it is possible to describe onium-$e^{\pm}$ deep inelastic scattering in the dipole model, relying on k_T-factorization properties. The elementary scattering amplitudes involved in the various processes are computed using eikonal techniques.

QCD dipole predictions for quark singlet, gluon and $F_L/F_T$ distributions at HERA

In this contribution we apply the QCD dipole picture combined with $k_T$-factorization to get predictions for deep-inelastic scattering on an onium. Assuming renormalization-group factorization, we get predictions for the $F_2, F_G$ and $R= F_L/F_T$ proton structure functions. We obtain a three-parameter fit of the 1994 H1 data in the low-$x_{bj}$, moderate-$Q^2$ range. $F_G/F_2$ and $R$ are then predicted without any additionnal parameter. The BFKL dynamics contained in the dipole model is shown to provide a relevant model in describing the HERA data. The prediction for $F_2$ and $F_G$ are compatible with next-to-leading order DGLAP analysis. By contrast, $R$ is expected to be much lower at small $x_{bj}$.

On the origin of the rise of $F_2$ at small $x$

We show that, provided that the non-perturbative input is regular at the right of the $ω=0$ singularity of the dominant DGLAP anomalous dimension, the rise of $F_2$ at small $x,$ experimentally measured by the averaged observable $λ= <(\partial ln F_2)/(\partial ln 1/x)>,$ is input-independent in the perturbative $Q^2$ regime at small $x$. $(\partial ln xF)/(\partial ln Q^2)$ appears to be more input-dependent in the same range. The GRV-type parametrisations verify these properties. Other models, namely the BFKL kernel(QCD dipoles), DGLAP(hard pomeron singularity) give different predictions for $λ$. At moderate $Q^2,$ there is a possibility of distinguishing these different perturbative QCD predictions in the near future.

Proton structure functions in the dipole picture of BFKL dynamics

The $F_2$, $F_G$, $R = F_L/F_T$ proton structure functions are derived in the QCD dipole picture. Assuming $k_T$ and renormalization-group factorization, we relate deep-inelastic proton scattering to deep-inelastic onium scattering. We get a three-parameter fit of the 1994 H1 data in the low-$x,$ moderate $Q^2$ range. The ratios $F_G/F_2$ and $R$ are predicted without further adjustment. The dipole picture of BFKL dynamics is shown to provide a relevant model for quantitatively describing the proton structure functions at HERA. The predictions for $F_2$ and $F_G$ are compatible with the next-to-leading order DGLAP analysis, while $R$ is expected to be significantly lower at very small $x$.

Unified QCD evolution equations for quarks and gluons

Considering the BFKL and DGLAP QCD evolution equations for structure functions, we discuss the possibility of unifying them in the whole $x$ and $Q^2$ range. We emphasize that the main problem is related to the constraint of angular ordering of the radiation, and the cancellation of the related collinear singularities for inclusive processes. At the leading log\ $1/x$ and log\ $Q^2$ level, we write down a unified system of equations satisfying this cancellation constraint. At low $x$, it leads to a less singular behaviour of the structure functions than the BFKL prediction.

Baxter Equation for the QCD Odderon

The Hamiltonian derived by Bartels, Kwiecinski and Praszalowicz for the study of high-energy QCD in the generalized logarithmic approximation was found to correspond to the Hamiltonian of an integrable $XXX$ spin chain. We study the odderon Hamiltonian corresponding to three sites by means of the Bethe Ansatz approach. We rewrite the Baxter equation, and consequently the Bethe Ansatz equations, as a linear triangular system. We derive a new expression for the eigenvectors and the eigenvalues, and discuss the quantization of the conserved quantities.

Unified QCD Evolution Equations and the Dominant Behaviour of Structure Functions at Low X

We consider a system of evolution equations for quark and gluon structure functions satisfying the leading-logarithmic behaviour due to both QCD collinear $ \left(LLQ^2 \right) $ and infrared $ (LL1/x) $ singularities. We show that these equations leave undetermined an arbitrary regular function of $j$ in the Mellin-transformed weights. We consider the constraints resulting from energy-momentum conservation and from the decoupling of quark loops in the leading $ j $-plane singularity. These constraints can be fulfilled without influencing the leading-log terms. As a particular consequence of the second constraint, the location of the leading singularity is determined in terms of the $ (LL1/x) $ and $ \left(LLQ^2 \right) $ kernels. It leads to a value significantly lower than the $ LL1/x $ evaluation, while remaining at $j > 1,$ and compatible with the behaviour of structure functions observed at HERA.

On the Singular Behaviour of Structure Functions at Low X

We discuss the phenomenological extraction of the leading $ j$-plane singularity from singlet structure functions $ F_s $ measured at small $ x. $ Using a saddle-point method we show that $ {\rm d ln} F_s /{\rm d ln}{1 \over x} $ is a suitable observable for this purpose in the region $x \le 10^{-2}.$ As an application, we confront and distinguish in a model-independent way structure function parametrizations coming from two different QCD evolution equations, namely the Lipatov (or BFKL) equation and the Gribov-Lipatov -Altarelli-Parisi (or GLAP) equation. Recent results at HERA are discussed in this framework.
