Transport coefficients in the Polyakov quark meson coupling model: A quasi particle approach

We compute the transport coefficients, namely, the coefficients of shear and bulk viscosities as well as thermal conductivity for hot and dense matter. The calculations are performed within the Polyakov loop extended quark meson model. The estimation of the transport coefficients is made using the Boltzmann kinetic equation within the relaxation time approximation. The energy dependent relaxation time is estimated from meson meson scattering, quark meson scattering and quark quark scattering within the model. In our calculations, the shear viscosity to entropy ratio and the coefficient of thermal conductivity show a minimum at the critical temperature, while the ratio of bulk viscosity to entropy density exhibits a peak at this transition point. The effect of confinement modelled through a Polyakov loop potential plays an important role in the estimation of these dissipative coefficients both below and above the critical temperature.

Shear viscosity of a pion gas due to $ρππ$ and $σππ$ interactions

We have calculated the shear viscosity of pion medium, where propagating pion has some finite thermal width due to interaction with the low mass resonances, $σ$ and $ρ$. With the help of standard thermal field theoretical technique, the thermal width of the pion has been calculated from the pion self-energy diagram for $πσ$ and $πρ$ loops, where an effective Lagrangian density has been used for interaction part. We have found a very small value of shear viscosity by entropy density ratio ($η/s$), which is very close to the KSS bound.

A comparative study on two different expressions of Bulk viscosity in the PNJL model

We have gone through a comparative study on two different kind of bulk viscosity expressions by using a common dynamical model. The Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model in the realm of mean-field approximation, including up to eight quark interactions for 2+1 flavor quark matter, is treated for this common dynamics. We have probed the numerical equivalence as well as discrepancy of two different expressions for bulk viscosity at vanishing quark chemical potential. Our estimation of bulk viscosity to entropy density ratio follows a decreasing trend with temperature, which is observed in most of the earlier investigations. We have also extended our estimation for finite values of quark chemical potential.

Shear and Bulk Viscosities of Quark Matter from Quark-Meson Fluctuations in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

We have calculated the temperature dependence of shear $η$ and bulk $ζ$ viscosities of quark matter due to quark-meson fluctuations. The quark thermal width originating from quantum fluctuations of quark-$π$ and quark-$σ$ loops at finite temperature is calculated with the formalism of real-time thermal field theory. Temperature-dependent constituent-quark and meson masses, and quark-meson couplings are obtained in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. We found a non-trivial influence of the temperature-dependent masses and couplings on the Landau-cut structure of the quark self-energy. Our results for the ratios $η/s$ and $ζ/s$, where $s$ is the entropy density (also determined in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model in the quasi-particle approximation), are in fair agreement with results of the literature obtained from different models and techniques. In particular, our result for $η/s$ has a minimum very close to the conjectured AdS/CFT lower bound, $η/s = 1/4π$.

Bulk viscosity for pion and nucleon thermal fluctuation in the hadron resonance gas model

We have calculated microscopically bulk viscosity of hadronic matter, where equilibrium thermodynamics for all hadrons in medium are described by Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model. Considering pions and nucleons as abundant medium constituents, we have calculated their thermal widths, which inversely control the strength of bulk viscosities for respective components and represent their in-medium scattering probabilities with other mesonic and baryonic resonances, present in the medium. Our calculations show that bulk viscosity increases with both temperature and baryon chemical potential, whereas viscosity to entropy density ratio decreases with temperature and with baryon chemical potential, the ratio increases first and then decreases. The decreasing nature of the ratio with temperature is observed in most of the earlier investigations with few exceptions. We find that the temperature dependence of bulk viscosity crucially depends on the structure of the relaxation time. Along the chemical freeze-out line in nucleus-nucleus collisions with increasing collision energy, bulk viscosity as well as the bulk viscosity to entropy density ratio decreases, which also agrees with earlier references. Our results indicate the picture of a strongly coupled hadronic medium.

Electrical conductivity of hadronic matter from different possible mesonic and baryonic thermal fluctuations

Electromagnetic current-current correlators in pionic and nucleonic medium have been evaluated in the static limit to obtain electrical conductivities for pion and nucleon components respectively, where former decreases and latter one increases with the variation of temperature $T$ and baryon chemical potential $μ_N$. Therefore, total electrical conductivity of pion and nucleon system exhibits a valley structure in the $T$-$μ_N$ plane. To get non-divergent and finite values of correlators, finite thermal widths of medium constituents, pion and nucleon have been considered, where these thermal widths have been determined from the in-medium scattering probabilities of pion and nucleon with other mesonic and baryonic resonances, based on effective hadronic model. At $μ_N=0$, the results of present work are more or less agrees with the results of earlier works and its finite $μ_N$ extension show a decreasing nature of electrical conductivity for hadronic medium during spanning from freeze out line to quark-hadron transition line in $T$-$μ_N$ plane.

Mesonic Decay of Charm Hypernuclei $Λ^+_c$

$Λ^+_c$ hypernuclei are expected to have binding energies and other properties similar to those of strange hypernuclei in view of the similarity between the quark structures of the strange and charmed hyperons, namely $Λ(uds)$ and $Λ^+_c (udc)$. One striking difference however occurs in their mesonic decays, as there is almost no Pauli blocking in the nucleonic decay of a charm hypernucleus because the final-state nucleons leave the nucleus at high energies. The nuclear medium nevertheless affects the mesonic decays of charm hypernucleus because the nuclear mean fields modify the masses of the charm hyperon. In the present communication we present results of a first investigation of the effects of finite baryon density on different weak mesonic decay channels of the $Λ^+_c$ baryon. We found a non-negligible reduction of the decay widths as compared to their vacuum values.

Diffusion of hidden charm mesons in hadronic medium

The drag and diffusion coefficients of a hot hadronic medium have been evaluated by using hidden charm mesons as probes. The matrix elements for the evaluation of these coefficients are calculated using an effective theory as well as from scattering lengths. Although the transport coefficients show a significant rise with temperature its effects on the suppression of $J/ψ$ in hadronic matter is not significant.

A comparative analysis of in-medium spectral functions for $N(940)$ and $N^*(1535)$ in real-time thermal field theory

In the real-time thermal field theory, the nucleon self-energy at finite temperature and density is evaluated where an extensive set of pion-baryon ($πB$) loops are considered. On the other side the in-medium self-energy of $N^*(1535)$ for $πN$ and $ηN$ loops is also determined in the same framework. The detail branch cut structures for these different $πB$ loops for nucleon $N(940)$ and $πN$, $ηN$ loops for $N^*(1535)$ are addressed. Using the total self-energy of $N(940)$ and $N^*(1535)$, which contain the contributions of their corresponding loop diagrams, the complete structures of their in-medium spectral functions have been obtained. The Landau and unitary cut contributions provide two separate peak structures in the nucleon spectral function while $N^*(1535)$ has single peak structure in its unitary cuts. At high temperature, the peak structures of both at their individual poles are attenuated while at high density Landau peak structure of nucleon is completely suppressed and its unitary peak structure is tending to be shifted towards the melted peak of $N^*(1535)$. The non-trivial modifications of these chiral partners may indicate some association of chiral symmetry restoration.

Shear viscosity of pionic and nucleonic components from their different possible mesonic and baryonic thermal fluctuations

Owing to the Kubo relation, the shear viscosities of pionic and nucleonic components have been evaluated from their corresponding retarded correlators of viscous stress tensor in the static limit, which become non-divergent only for the non-zero thermal widths of the constituent particles. In the real-time thermal field theory, the pion and nucleon thermal widths have respectively been obtained from the pion self-energy for different meson, baryon loops and the nucleon self-energy for different pion-baryon loops. We have found a non-monotonic momentum distributions of pion and nucleon thermal widths, which have been integrated out by their respective Bose-enhanced and Pauli-blocked phase space factors during evaluation of their shear viscosities. The viscosity to entropy density ratio for this mixed gas of pion-nucleon system decreases and approaches toward its lower bound as the temperature and baryon chemical potential increase within the relevant domain of hadronic matter.

Thermal conductivity of hot pionic medium due to pion self-energy for $πσ$ and $πρ$ loops

The thermal conductivity of pionic medium has been evaluated with the help of its standard expression from the relaxation time approximation, where inverse of pion relaxation time or pion thermal width has been obtained from the imaginary part of pion self-energy. In the real-time formalism of thermal field theory, the finite temperature calculations of pion self-energy for $πσ$ and $πρ$ loops have been done. The numerical value of our thermal conductivity increases with temperature very softly, though at particular temperature, our estimation has to consider a large band of phenomenological uncertainty.

Low mass enhanced probability of pion in hadronic matter due to its Landau cut contributions

In the real-time thermal field theory, the pion self-energy at finite temperature and density is evaluated where the different mesonic and baryonic loops are considered. The interactions of pion with the other mesons and baryons in the medium are governed by the effective hadronic Lagrangian densities whose effective strength of coupling constants have been determined from the experimental decay widths of the mesons and baryons. The detail branch cut structures of these different mesonic and baryonic loops are analyzed. The Landau cut contributions of different baryon and meson loops become only relevant around the pion pole and it is completely appeared in presence of medium. The in-medium spectral function of pion has been plotted for different values of temperature, baryon chemical potential as well as three momentum of the pion. A noticeable low mass probability in pion spectral function promise to contribute in the low mass dilepton enhancement via indirect modification of $ρ$ self-energy for $ππ$ loop.

The nucleon thermal width due to pion-baryon loops and its contribution in Shear viscosity

In the real-time thermal field theory, the standard expression of shear viscosity for the nucleonic constituents is derived from the two point function of nucleonic viscous stress tensors at finite temperature and density. The finite thermal width or Landau damping is traditionally included in the nucleon propagators. This thermal width is calculated from the in-medium self-energy of nucleon for different possible pion-baryon loops. The dynamical part of nucleon-pion-baryon interactions are taken care by the effective Lagrangian densities of standard hadronic model. The shear viscosity to entropy density ratio of nucleonic component decreases with the temperature and increases with the nucleon chemical potential. However, adding the contribution of pionic component, total viscosity to entropy density ratio also reduces with the nucleon chemical potential when the mixing effect between pion and nucleon components in the mixed gas is considered. Within the hadronic domain, viscosity to entropy density ratio of the nuclear matter is gradually reducing as temperature and nucleon chemical potential are growing up and therefore the nuclear matter is approaching toward the (nearly) perfect fluid nature.

Diffusion of $Λ_c$ in hot hadronic medium and its impact on $Λ_c/D$ ratio

The drag and diffusion coefficients of the $Λ_c(2286$ MeV) have been evaluated in the hadronic medium which is expected to be formed in the later stages of the evolving fire ball produced in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. The interactions between the $Λ_c$ and the hadrons in the medium have been derived from an effective hadronic Lagrangian as well as from the scattering lengths, obtained in the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HB$χ$PT). In both the approaches, the magnitude of the transport coefficients are turn out to be significant. A larger value is obtained in the former approach with respect to the latter. Significant values of the coefficients indicate substantial amount of interaction of the $Λ_c$ with the hadronic thermal bath. Furthermore, the transport coefficients of the $Λ_c$ is found to be different from the transport coefficients of $D$ meson. Present study indicates that the hadronic medium has a significant impact on the $Λ_c/D$ ratio in heavy ion collisions.

A real-time thermal field theoretical analysis of Kubo-type shear viscosity : Numerical understanding with simple examples

A real-time thermal field theoretical calculation of shear viscosity has been described in the Kubo formalism for bosonic and fermionic medium. The two point function of viscous stress tensor in the lowest order provides one-loop skeleton diagram of boson or fermion field for bosonic or fermionic matter. According to the traditional diagrammatic technique of transport coefficients, the finite thermal width of boson or fermion is introduced in their internal lines during the evaluation of boson-boson or fermion-fermion loop diagram. These thermal widths of $ϕ$ boson and $ψ$ fermion are respectively obtained from the imaginary part of self-energy for $ϕΦ$ and $ψΦ$ loops, where interactions of higher mass $Φ$ boson with $ϕ$ and $ψ$ are governed by the simple $ϕϕΦ$ and ${\ovψ}ψΦ$ interaction Lagrangian densities. A two-loop diagram, having same power of coupling constant as in the one-loop diagram, is deduced and its contribution appears much lower than the one-loop values of shear viscosity. Therefore the one-loop results of Kubo-type shear viscosity may be considered as leading order results for this simple $ϕϕΦ$ and ${\ovψ}ψΦ$ interactions. This approximation is valid for any values of coupling constant and at the temperatures greater than the mass of constituent particles of the medium.

Shear viscosity of pion gas due to $ρππ$ and $σππ$ interactions

We have evaluated the shear viscosity of pion gas taking into account its scattering with the low mass resonances, $σ$ and $ρ$ during propagation in the medium. The thermal width (or collisional rate) of the pions is calculated from $πσ$ and $πρ$ loop diagrams using effective interactions in the real time formulation of finite temperature field theory. A very small value of shear viscosity by entropy density ratio ($η/s$), close to the KSS bound, is obtained which approximately matches the range of values of $η/s$ used by Niemi et al. \cite{Niemi} in order to fit the RHIC data of elliptic flow.

Shear viscosity due to the Landau damping from quark-pion interaction

We have calculated the shear viscosity coefficient $η$ of the strongly interacting matter in the relaxation time approximation, where a quasi particle description of quarks with its dynamical mass is considered from NJL model. Due to the thermodynamic scattering of quarks with pseudo scalar type condensate (i.e. pion), a non zero Landau damping will be acquired by the propagating quarks. This Landau damping may be obtained from the Landau cut contribution of the in-medium self-energy of quark-pion loop, which is evaluated in the framework of real-time thermal field theory.

Effect of in-medium spectral density of $D$ and $D^*$ mesons on the $J/ψ$ dissociation in hadronic matter

The one-loop self-energy of the $D$ and $D^*$ mesons in a hot hadronic medium is evaluated using the real time formalism of thermal field theory. The interaction of the heavy open-charm mesons with the thermalized constituents $(π,K,η)$ of the hadronic matter is treated in the covariant formalism of heavy meson chiral perturbation theory. The imaginary parts are extracted from the discontinuities of the self-energy function across the unitary and the Landau cuts. The non-zero contribution from the latter to the spectral density of $D$ and $D^*$ mesons opens a number of subthreshold decay channels of the $J/ψ$ leading to a significant increase in the dissociation width in hadronic matter.
