Differential Harnack Estimates for heat Equation under Finsler-Ricci Flow

In this paper we prove first order differential Harnack estimates for positive solutions of the heat equation (in the sense of distributions) under closed Finsler-Ricci flows. We assume mild non-linearities (in terms of the Chern connection, $\mathbf{S}-$curvature and Hessian) and suitable Ricci curvature bounds throughout the flow. One of the key tools we use is the Bochner identity for Finsler structures proved by Ohta and Sturm.

Non-branching RCD(0,N) Geodesic Spaces with Small Linear Diameter Growth Have Finitely Generated Fundamental Groups

In this paper, we generalize the finite generation result of Sormani to non-branching $RCD(0,N)$ geodesic spaces (and in particular, Alexandrov spaces) with full support measures. This is a special case of the Milnor's Conjecture for complete non-compact $RCD(0,N)$ spaces. One of the key tools we use is the Abresch-Gromoll type excess estimates for non-smooth spaces obtained by Gigli-Mosconii.

On the Size of a Ricci Flow Neckpinch via Optimal Transport

In this paper we apply techniques from optimal transport to study the neckpinch examples of Angenent-Knopf which arise through the Ricci flow on $\mathbb{S}^{n+1}$. In particular, we recover their proof of 'single-point pinching' along the flow. Using the methods of optimal transportation, we are able to remove the assumption of reflection symmetry for the metric. Our argument relies on the heuristic for weak Ricci flow proposed by McCann-Topping which characterizes super solutions of the Ricci flow by the contractivity of diffusions.

Diameter Controls and Smooth Convergence away from Singular Sets

We prove that if a family of metrics, $g_i$, on a compact Riemannian manifold, $M^n$, have a uniform lower Ricci curvature bound and converge to $g_\infty$ smoothly away from a singular set, $S$, with Hausdorff measure, $H^{n-1}(S) = 0$, and if there exists connected precompact exhaustion, $W_j$, of $M^n \setminus S$ satisfying $\diam_{g_i}(M^n) \le D_0 $, $\vol_{g_i}(\partial W_j) \le A_0 $ and $\vol_{g_i}(M^n \setminus W_j) \le V_j where \lim_{j\to\infty}V_j=0 $ then the Gromov-Hausdorff limit exists and agrees with the metric completion of $(M^n \setminus S, g_\infty)$. Recall that in the prior work with Sormani the same conclusion is reached but the singular set is assumed to be a submanifold of codimension two. We have a second main theorem in which the Hausdorff measure condition on $S$ is replaced by diameter estimates on the connected components of the boundary of the exhaustion, $\partial W_j$. In addition, we show that the uniform lower Ricci curvature bounds in these theorems can be replaced by the existence of a uniform linear contractibility function. If this condition is removed altogether, then we prove that $\lim_{j\to \infty} d_{\mathcal{F}}(M_j', N')=0$, in which $M_j'$ and $N'$ are the settled completions of $(M, g_j)$ and $(M_\infty\setminus S, g_\infty)$ respectively and $d_{\mathcal{F}}$ is the Sormani-Wenger Intrinsic Flat distance. We present examples demonstrating the necessity of many of the hypotheses in our theorems.

Super Ricci flow for disjoint unions

In this paper we consider compact, Riemannian manifolds $M_1, M_2$ each equipped with a one-parameter family of metrics $g_1(t), g_2(t)$ satisfying the Ricci flow equation. Motivated by a characterization of the super Ricci flow developed by McCann-Topping, we introduce the notion of a super Ricci flow for a family of distance metrics defined on the disjoint union $\MM$. In particular, we show such a super Ricci flow property holds provided the distance function between points in $M_1$ and $M_2$ evolves by the heat equation. We also discuss possible applications and examples.

Continuity of Ricci Flow Through Neck Pinch Singularities

In this article, we consider the Angenent-Caputo-Knopf's Ricci Flow through neckpinch singularities. We will explain how one can see the A-C-K's Ricci flow through a neckpinch singularity as a flow of integral current spaces. We then prove the continuity of this weak flow with respect to the Sormani-Wenger Intrinsic Flat (SWIF) distance.
