Sharp estimates for semi-stable radial solutions of semilinear elliptic equations

This paper is devoted to the study of semi-stable radial solutions $u\in H^1(B_1)$ of $-Δu=g(u) {in} B_1\setminus \{0\}$, where $g\in C^1(R)$ is a general nonlinearity and $B_1$ is the unit ball of $R^N$. We establish sharp pointwise estimates for such solutions. As an application of these results, we obtain optimal pointwise estimates for the extremal solution and its derivatives (up to order three) of the semilinear elliptic equation $-Δu=λf(u)$, posed in $B_1$, with Dirichlet data $u|_{\partial B_1}=0$, and a continuous, positive, nondecreasing and convex function $f$ on $[0,\infty)$ such that $f(s)/s\to\infty$ as $s\to\infty$.

Lyapunov inequalities for Neumann boundary conditions at higher eigenvalues

This paper is devoted to the study of Lyapunov-type inequality for Neumann boundary conditions at higher eigenvalues. Our main result is derived from a detailed analysis about the number and distribution of zeros of nontrivial solutions and their first derivatives, together with the use of suitable minimization problems. This method of proof allows to obtain new information on Lyapunov constants. For instance, we prove that as in the classical result by Lyapunov, the best constant is not attained. Additionally, we exploit the relation between Neumann boundary conditions and disfocality to provide new nonresonance conditions at higher eigenvalues.

Matrix Lyapunov inequalities for ordinary and elliptic partial differential equations

This paper is devoted to the study of $L_p$ Lyapunov-type inequalities for linear systems of equations with Neumann boundary conditions and for any constant $p \geq 1$. We consider ordinary and elliptic problems. The results obtained in the linear case are combined with Schauder fixed point theorem to provide new results about the existence and uniqueness of solutions for resonant nonlinear problems. The proof uses in a fundamental way the nontrivial relation between the best Lyapunov constants and the minimum value of some especial minimization problems.
