Ehrhart series and lattice triangulations

We express the generating function for lattice points in a rational polyhedral cone with a simplicial subdivision in terms of multivariate analogues of the h-polynomials of the subdivision and "local contributions" of the links of its nonunimodular faces. We also compute new examples of nonunimodal h^*-vectors of reflexive polytopes.

Asymptotic cohomological functions of toric divisors

We study functions on the class group of a toric variety measuring the rates of growth of the cohomology groups of multiples of divisors. We show that these functions are piecewise polynomial with respect to finite polyhedral chamber decompositions. As applications, we express the self-intersection number of a T-Cartier divisor as a linear combination of the volumes of the bounded regions in the corresponding hyperplane arrangement and prove an asymptotic converse to Serre vanishing.

Equivariant Chow cohomology of toric varieties

We show that the equivariant Chow cohomology ring of a toric variety is naturally isomorphic to the ring of integral piecewise polynomial functions on the associated fan. This gives a large class of singular spaces for which localization holds in equivariant Chow cohomology with integer coefficients. We also compute the equivariant Chow cohomology of toric prevarieties and general complex hypertoric varieties in terms of piecewise polynomial functions.

Stable base loci, movable curves, and small modifications, for toric varieties

We show that the dual of the cone of divisors on a complete Q-factorial toric variety X whose stable base loci have dimension less than k is generated by curves on small modifications that move in families sweeping out the birational transforms of k-dimensional subvarieties of X. We give an example showing that it does not suffice to consider curves on X itself.

Fujita's very ampleness conjecture for singular toric varieties

We present a self-contained combinatorial approach to Fujita's conjectures in the toric case. Our main new result is a generalization of Fujita's very ampleness conjecture for toric varieties with arbitrary singularities. In an appendix, we use similar methods to give a new proof of an analogous toric generalization of Fujita's freeness conjecture due to Fujino.

Ehrhart polynomials and stringy Betti numbers

We study the connection between stringy Betti numbers of Gorenstein toric varieties and the generating functions of the Ehrhart polynomials of certain polyhedral regions. We use this point of view to give counterexamples to Hibi's conjecture on the unimodality of delta-vectors of reflexive polytopes.

Topology of real toric surfaces

We determine the homeomorphism type of the set of real points of a smooth projective toric surface. This note may serve as an expository introduction to some of the ideas and techniques in C. Delaunay's work on real toric varieties.
