Inverse curve problems on del Pezzo surfaces

We classify the number of $k$-rational lines and conic fibrations on del Pezzo surfaces over a field $k$ in terms of relatively minimal surfaces and establish rational curve analogues of the inverse Galois problem for del Pezzo surfaces. We completely solve these problems in all degrees over all global, local and finite fields and provide new solutions of the inverse Galois problem in characteristic 2. Our results generalise well-known theorems on cubic surfaces.

Hilbert property for low-genus families and degree-one del Pezzo surfaces

We prove that the Hilbert property is satisfied by certain del Pezzo surfaces of degree one and Picard rank 1 over fields finitely generated over $\mathbb{Q}$. We generalize results of the first author on elliptic surfaces and employ constructions used by Desjardins and the third author to prove density of rational points. Our results are the first on the Hilbert property for minimal del Pezzo surfaces of degree one without a conic fibration.

Semi-integral points of bounded height on toric varieties

We prove asymptotics for semi-integral points of bounded height on toric varieties. We verify the Manin-type conjecture of Pieropan, Smeets, Tanimoto and V\'arilly-Alvarado for smooth and certain singular toric orbifolds upon replacing the leading constant with the one predicted by Chow, Loughran, Takloo-Bighash and Tanimoto.

Weak weak approximation and the Hilbert property for degree-two del Pezzo surfaces

We prove that del Pezzo surfaces of degree $2$ over a field $k$ satisfy weak weak approximation if $k$ is a number field and the Hilbert property if $k$ is Hilbertian of characteristic zero, provided that they contain a $k$-rational point lying neither on any $4$ of the $56$ exceptional curves nor on the ramification divisor of the anticanonical morphism. This builds upon results of Manin, Salgado--Testa--V\'arilly-Alvarado, and Festi--van Luijk on the unirationality of such surfaces, and upon work of the first two authors verifying weak weak approximation under the assumption of a conic fibration.

Semi-integral Brauer-Manin obstruction and quadric orbifold pairs

We study local-global principles for two notions of semi-integral points, termed Campana points and Darmon points. In particular, we develop a semi-integral version of the Brauer-Manin obstruction interpolating between Manin's classical version for rational points and the integral version developed by Colliot-Th\'el\`ene and Xu. We determine the status of local-global principles, and obstructions to them, in two families of orbifolds naturally associated to quadric hypersurfaces. Further, we establish a quantitative result measuring the failure of the semi-integral Brauer-Manin obstruction to account for its integral counterpart for affine quadrics.

Weak approximation for del Pezzo surfaces of low degree

We prove, via an "arithmetic surjectivity" approach inspired by work of Denef, that weak weak approximation holds for surfaces with two conic fibrations satisfying a general assumption. In particular, weak weak approximation holds for general del Pezzo surfaces of degrees $1$ or $2$ with a conic fibration.

Weak approximation and the Hilbert property for Campana points

We study weak approximation and the Hilbert property for Campana points, both of importance in recent work on a Manin-type conjecture by Pieropan, Smeets, Tanimoto and Varilly-Alvarado. We show that weak weak approximation implies the Hilbert property for Campana points, and we exploit this to exhibit Campana orbifolds whose sets of Campana points are not thin.

Campana points and powerful values of norm forms

We give an asymptotic formula for the number of weak Campana points of bounded height on a family of orbifolds associated to norm forms for Galois extensions of number fields. From this formula we derive an asymptotic for the number of elements with $m$-full norm over a given Galois extension of $\mathbb{Q}$. We also provide an asymptotic for Campana points on these orbifolds which illustrates the vast difference between the two notions, and we compare this to the Manin-type conjecture of Pieropan, Smeets, Tanimoto and V\'arilly-Alvarado.

Hilbert property for double conic bundles and del Pezzo varieties

In this paper we prove that, over a Hilbertian ground field, surfaces with two conic fibrations whose fibres have non-zero intersection product have the Hilbert property. We then give an application of this result, namely the verification of the Hilbert property for certain del Pezzo varieties.
