Neuro-adaptive Cooperative Tracking Control with Prescribed Performance of Unknown Higher-order Nonlinear Multi-agent Systems

This paper is concerned with the design of a distributed cooperative synchronization controller for a class of higher-order nonlinear multi-agent systems. The objective is to achieve synchronization and satisfy a predefined time-based performance. Dynamics of the agents (also called the nodes) are assumed to be unknown to the controller and are estimated using Neural Networks. The proposed robust neuro-adaptive controller drives different states of nodes systematically to synchronize with the state of the leader node within the constraints of the prescribed performance. The nodes are connected through a weighted directed graph with a time-invariant topology. Only few nodes have access to the leader. Lyapunov-based stability proofs demonstrate that the multi-agent system is uniformly ultimately bounded stable. Highly nonlinear heterogeneous networked systems with uncertain parameters and external disturbances were used to validate the robustness and performance of the new novel approach. Simulation results considered two different examples: single-input single-output and multi-input multi-output, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Design of Adaptive Backstepping Control for Direct Power Control of Three-Phase PWM Rectifier)

In this paper, we focused on the design of an adaptive backstepping controller (adaptive-BSC) for direct power control (DPC) of a three-phase PWM rectifier. In the proposed system, it is desired to control both the output DC voltage of the rectifier and the reactive power simultaneously by making them track desired respective values. This was done by having independent virtual control signals for both the output voltage and the reactive power. The adaptive control signals were gotten from the dynamic equations of the three-phase system. For comparison, both the BSC and adaptive-BSC equations were developed. Numerical simulations were performed on both of them on a 5kW system. The proposed adaptive-BSC was designed to work under more challenging system variations as compared with the BSC as it has to estimate the value of the unknown system load. Despite this, it still performed better than its BSC counterpart.

Optimal Tuning of Fuzzy Feedback filter for L1 Adaptive Controller Using Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization for Uncertain Nonlinear MIMO Systems

This paper proposes an efficient approach for tuning L1 feedback filter of adaptive controller for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. The feedback filter provides performance that trades off fast closed loop dynamics, robustness margin, and control signal range. Thus appropriate tuning of the filter's parameters is crucial to achieve optimal performance. For MIMO systems, the parameters tuning is challenging and requires a multi-objective performance indices to avoid instability. This paper proposes a fuzzy-based L1 feedback filter design tuned with multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) to remove these bottlenecks. MOPSO guarantees the appropriate selection of the fuzzy membership functions. The proposed approach is validated using twin rotor MIMO system and simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of here proposed while preserving the system stabilizability.

Adaptive synchronisation of unknown nonlinear networked systems with prescribed performance

This paper proposes an adaptive tracking control with prescribed performance function for distributive cooperative control of highly nonlinear multi-agent systems. The use of such approach confines the tracking error within a large predefined set to a predefined smaller set. The key idea is to transform the constrained system into unconstrained one through the transformation of the output error. Agents' dynamics are assumed unknown, and the controller is developed for a strongly connected structured network. The proposed controller allows all agents to follow the trajectory of the leader node, while satisfying the necessary dynamic requirements. The proposed approach guarantees uniform ultimate boundedness for the transformed error as well as a bounded adaptive estimate of the unknown parameters and dynamics. Simulations include two examples to validate the robustness and smoothness of the proposed controller against highly nonlinear heterogeneous multi-agent system with uncertain time-variant parameters and external disturbances. A fuzzy logic feedback filter design tuned with PSO for L1 adaptive controller

L1 adaptive controller has been recognized for having a structure that allows decoupling between robustness and adaption owing to the introduction of a low pass filter with adjustable gain in the feedback loop. The trade-off between performance, fast adaptation and robustness, is the main criteria when selecting the structure or the coefficients of the filter. Several off-line methods with varying levels of complexity exist to help finding bounds or initial values for these coefficients. Such values may require further refinement using trial-and-error procedures upon implementation. Subsequently, these approaches suggest that once implemented these values are kept fixed leading to sub-optimal performance in both speed of adaptation and robustness. In this paper, a new practical approach based on fuzzy rules for online continuous tuning of these coefficients is proposed. The fuzzy controller is optimally tuned using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) taking into accounts both the tracking error and the controller output signal range. The simulation of several examples of systems with moderate to severe nonlinearities demonstrate that the proposed approach offers improved control performance. Neuro-adaptive distributed control with prescribed performance for the synchronization of unknown nonlinear networked systems

This paper proposes a neuro-adaptive distributive cooperative tracking control with prescribed performance function (PPF) for highly nonlinear multi-agent systems. PPF allows error tracking from a predefined large set to be trapped into a predefined small set. The key idea is to transform the constrained system into unconstrained one through transformation of the output error. Agents' dynamics are assumed to be completely unknown, and the controller is developed for strongly connected structured network. The proposed controller allows all agents to follow the trajectory of the leader node, while satisfying necessary dynamic requirements. The proposed approach guarantees uniform ultimate boundedness of the transformed error and the adaptive neural network weights. Simulations include two examples to validate the robustness and smoothness of the proposed controller against highly nonlinear heterogeneous networked system with time varying uncertain parameters and external disturbances.

Artificial Bee Colony-based Adaptive Position Control of Electrohydraulic Servo Systems with Parameter Uncertainty

In this paper, a robust adaptive backstepping-based controller is developed for positioning the spool valve of Electro-Hydraulic Servo System (EHSS) with parameter fluctuations. Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is utilized to drive the parameters of the proposed controller to a good neighbourhood of the solution space. The optimization problem is formulated such that both the tracking error and control signal are minimized concurrently. The results show that the proposed controller guarantees the uniform ultimate boundedness of the tracking error and control signal. Moreover, illustrative simulations validate the potentials and robustness of the proposed schemes in the presence of uncertainties. The proposed controller is also compared with sliding mode control.

Distributed Nonlinear MPC of Multi-Agent Systems with Data Compression and Random Delays - Extended Version

This is an extended version of a technical note accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. The note proposes an Input to State practically Stable (ISpS) formulation of distributed nonlinear model predictive controller (NMPC) for formation control of constrained autonomous vehicles in presence of communication bandwidth limitation and transmission delays. Planned trajectories are compressed using neural networks resulting in considerable reduction of data packet size, while being robust to propagation delays and uncertainty in neighbors' trajectories. Collision avoidance is achieved by means of spatially filtered potential field. Analytical results proving ISpS and generalized small gain conditions are presented for both strongly- and weakly-connected networks, and illustrated by simulations.
