Minkowski Space holography and Radon transform

We relate a free scalar field in the Minkowski spacetime with a scalar field with a certain scaling dimension on a sphere of codimension two. This is realised by first performing a Radon transform of the ``bulk" field on the Minkowski space to a field on a hyperplane identified with a de Sitter or Euclidean anti-de Sitter slice. The Radon transform is identified in turn with a scalar field obtained from a sphere of one further lower dimension through the so-called bulk reconstruction programme. We write down the Mellin modes of the bulk field as generalised hypergeometric functions using the Lee-Pomeransky method developed for evaluation of Feynman loop diagrams.

Holography in de Sitter and anti-de Sitter Spaces and Gel'fand Graev Radon transform

Bulk reconstruction formulas similar to HKLL are obtained for de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spaces as the inverse Gel'fand Graev Radon transform. While these generalize our previous result on the Euclidean anti-de Sitter space, their validity in here is restricted only to odd dimensions in both instances. The exact Wightman function for the de Sitter space is then derived analytically. The GGR transform fixes the coefficient of the Wightman function. For the anti-de Sitter space it is shown that a reconstruction formula exists for the case of time-like boundary as well. The restriction on the domain of integration on the boundary is derived. As a special case, we point out that the formula is valid for the BTZ black hole as well.

Holography on local fields via Radon Transform

We define Radon transform and its inverse on the two-dimensional anti-de Sitter space over local fields using a novel construction through a quadratic equation over the local field. We show that the holographic bulk reconstruction of quantum fields in this space can be formulated as the inverse Radon transform, generalizing the case over the reals, studied earlier.

Bulk reconstruction in AdS and Gel'fand-Graev-Radon Transform

The bulk reconstruction formula for a Euclidean anti-de Sitter space is directly related to the inverse of the Gel'fand-Graev-Radon transform. Correlation functions of a conformal scalar field theory in the boundary are thereby related to correlation functions of a self-interacting scalar field theory in the bulk at different loop orders.

Entanglement entropy and kinematic space in BCFT and RG flow

The relation between kinematic space metric and entanglement entropy provides us with a differential equation for entanglement entropy. For BCFT on upper half plane we solve this equation to obtain an expression for entanglement entropy consistent with known results in the literature. We also discuss how this relation can be used to recast the RG flow, under relevant deformations of a CFT, as a flow in the space of kinematic space metrics.

Towards Timelike Singularity via AdS Dual

It is well known that Kasner geometry with space-like singularity can be extended to bulk AdS-like geometry, furthermore one can study field theory on this Kasner space via its gravity dual. In this paper, we show that there exists a Kasner-like geometry with timelike singularity for which one can construct a dual gravity description. We then study various extremal surfaces including space-like geodesics in the dual gravity description. Finally, we compute correlators of highly massive operators in the boundary field theory with a geodesic approximation.

Implication of U-duality for black branes in M/string theory

U-duality symmetry of M-theory and S and T-duality of string theory can be used to study various black branes solutions. We explore some aspect of this idea here. This symmetry can be used to get relations among various components of the metric of the black brane. These relations in turn give relations among various components of the energy-momentum tensor. We show that, using these relations, without knowing the explicit form of form fields, we can get the black brane solutions. These features were studied previously in the context of M-theory. Here we extensively studied them in string theory (type II supergravity). We also show that this formulation works for exotic branes. We give an example of a time-dependent system where this method is essential.

A note on AdS cosmology and gauge theory correlator

Using AdS/CFT prescription, we compute two point Yang-Mills correlator on a constant time slice for the Kasner background. Pushing the surface close to the initial singularity, we find, in some cases, the correlator does not develop pole. This is consistent with the observations made in a recent work. We further numerically calculate similar correlator where the bulk is a Kasner AdS soliton. We find that the qualitative behaviour of the correlator remains unchanged.

Anisotropic branes

We present a class of anisotropic brane configurations which shows BKL oscillations near their cosmological singularities. Near horizon limits of these solutions represent Kasner space embedded in AdS background. Dynamical probe branes in these geometries inherit anisotropies from the background. Amusingly, for a probe M5 brane, we find that there exists a parameter region where three of its world-volume directions expand while the rest contract.

Generalized Holographic Cosmology

We consider general black hole solutions in five-dimensional spacetime in the presence of a negative cosmological constant. We obtain a cosmological evolution via the gravity/gauge theory duality (holography) by defining appropriate boundary conditions on a four-dimensional boundary hypersurface. The standard counterterms are shown to renormalize the bare parameters of the system (the four-dimensional Newton's constant and cosmological constant). We discuss the thermodynamics of cosmological evolution and present various examples. The standard brane-world scenarios are shown to be special cases of our holographic construction.

Study of Early Universe in an M Theoretic Model

In this thesis we study early universe in the frame work of M theory. In particular We assume that the early universe is homogeneous, anisotropic, and is dominated by the mutually BPS 22'55' intersecting branes of M theory. We find that, asymptotically, three spatial directions expand to infinity and the remaining spatial directions reach stabilised values. We give a physical description of the stabilisation mechanism.

Anisotropic Power Law Inflation from Rolling Tachyons

We provide an explicit solution representing an anisotropic power law inflation within the framework of rolling tachyon model. This is generated by allowing a non-minimal coupling between the tachyon and the world-volume gauge field on non-BPS D3 brane. We also show that this solution is perturbatively stable.

10 + 1 to 3 + 1 in an Early Universe with mutually BPS Intersecting Branes

We assume that the early universe is homogeneous, anisotropic, and is dominated by the mutually BPS 22'55' intersecting branes of M theory. The spatial directions are all taken to be toroidal. Using analytical and numerical methods, we study the evolution of such an universe. We find that, asymptotically, three spatial directions expand to infinity and the remaining spatial directions reach stabilised values. Any stabilised values can be obtained by a fine tuning of initial brane densities. We give a physical description of the stabilisation mechanism. Also, from the perspective of four dimensional spacetime, the effective four dimensional Newton's constant G_4 is now time varying. Its time dependence will follow from explicit solutions. We find in the present case that, asymptotically, G_4 exhibits characteristic log periodic oscillations.

Stabilisation of Seven Directions in an Early Universe M -- theory Model

Our model consists of intersecting 22'55' branes in M theory distributed uniformly in the common transverse space. Equations of state follow from U duality symmetries. In this model, three spatial directions expand, and seven directions stabilise to constant sizes. From string theory perspective, the dilaton is hence stabilised. The constant sizes depend on certain imbalance among initial values. One naturally obtains M_{11} \simeq M_s \simeq M_4 and g_s \simeq 1 within a few orders of magnitude. Smaller numbers, for example M_s \simeq 10^{- 16} M_4, are also possible but require fine tuning.

A Description of Rotating Multicharged Black Holes in terms of Branes and Antibranes

We describe rotating multicharge black holes as stacks of intersecting branes and antibranes together with massless gases on them. Assuming the energies of the gases to be equal, we find that their angular momentum parameters, corresponding to black hole rotations, are also equal. The entropy S of this model is given by S = X S_{sg} where S_{sg} is the supergravity entropy. One can obtain X = 1 under an assumption which violates conservation of energy. We show that X = 1 can also be obtained if one assumes that there is only one single gas, which is some sort of superposition of the gases mentioned above, and that the brane tensions are reduced by a factor of four. In this interpretation, energy is conserved and the unusual assumption that energies, not temperatures, of the gases are equal becomes superfluous.
