Second-Jet Equivariant $η$ Separations on Lens Spaces

Lens spaces are useful test examples in spectral geometry because their spin Dirac eigenspaces admit explicit congruence descriptions. We use these descriptions to study equivariant $η$ invariants for three-dimensional lens spaces with the round metric and the standard coordinate-torus action, retaining the spin-Fourier character of each eigenspace rather than only the ordinary scalar $η$ value. For the square family $L(\ell^2,\ell-1)$ and $L(\ell^2,2\ell-1)$, with $\ell\geq 5$ odd, we obtain a residual-circle equivariant $η$ separation: the ordinary $η$ values agree, and the first derivative of the residual $η$ germ vanishes by symmetry, but the second derivative is nonzero. For $L(25,4)$ versus $L(25,9)$, the normalized second derivative is $-6080$. Thus, the residual-circle equivariant $η$ germ detects a distinction invisible to the ordinary $η$ invariant. The calculation uses spin-Fourier residues directly; perturbative Hessian signs serve only as motivation and are not part of the invariant.

Higher-Rank Orthogonal Twists, APS Boundary Conditions, and $O(2)$-Equivariant Spectral Flow on a Warped Cylinder

We study $O(2)$-equivariant spectral flow for Dirac operators on a finite warped cylinder equipped with fixed admissible regularized APS boundary conditions. The twisting bundle is a real higher-rank orthogonal bundle, and reflection symmetry is implemented by a fiber involution. After complexifying the twisting bundle and diagonalizing the orthogonal twist, the Dirac equation decomposes into a scalar Fourier-mode radial equation, with moving rotating blocks and stationary neutral blocks. After regrouping conjugate and reflection-paired blocks, the crossing contributions define real $RO(O(2))$-classes. Consequently, we obtain an explicit blockwise formula for the $RO(O(2))$-valued spectral flow of the resulting regularized APS family. Under the standard self-adjoint Fredholm, endpoint-invertibility, and regular-crossing hypotheses, together with a fixed neutral-sector convention, this formula is obtained by assembling the local crossing contributions of the separated blocks. It refines ordinary integer-valued spectral flow and shows explicitly how the dimension map $RO(O(2))\to\mathbb Z$ loses representation-theoretic information. We also discuss the rank-three case, including the role of the fixed neutral sector, and the corresponding endpoint $η$/APS index interpretation.

Reflection Symmetry, APS Boundary Conditions, and Equivariant Spectral Flow on a Warped Cylinder

We study reflection symmetry and Atiyah-Patodi-Singer (APS) boundary conditions for twisted Dirac operators on a finite warped cylinder. For a complex line twist with holonomy parameter $A$, we show that the reflection lifts to a unitary symmetry of the twisted Dirac setting if and only if $2A\in\mathbb Z$. In the resulting reflection-compatible fixed-holonomy case, reflection pairs opposite shifted angular modes, and the paired APS blocks are unitarily equivalent. The reflection trace on the APS harmonic space localizes to the unique self-paired zero-mode sector. We then turn to parameter-dependent versions of the model. For fixed gauge-trivial holonomy, the family remains pointwise \(O(2)\)-equivariant, and its spectral flow admits an \(RO(O(2))\)-valued decomposition. For genuinely varying holonomy, pointwise \(O(2)\)-equivariance is lost along the path. The representation-ring-valued invariant is then replaced by a residual sign-level invariant: the mod-two parity of the APS crossing events.

Dirac Operators, APS Boundary Conditions, and Spectral Flow on a Finite Warped Cylinder

We study the Dirac operator on a finite warped cylinder coupled to a background $U(1)$ gauge field. We identify the intrinsic endpoint operators defining the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer (APS) boundary condition and derive a determinant characterization of the modewise APS spectrum. In the constant-gauge, invertible setting, the endpoint reduced $η$ contributions cancel, so the APS index vanishes. For smooth gauge families, the APS projector becomes discontinuous when a boundary mode crosses zero. We therefore introduce a regularized APS-type family of self-adjoint endpoint conditions that remains continuous across such crossings. This regularized family admits a real-symplectic boundary formulation within the standard spectral-flow/Maslov framework: for nondegenerate regularization, the zero-mode set coincides with the boundary-zero set, and transverse boundary zeros give isolated regular crossings.

Circuit Complexity in Fermionic Field Theory

We define and calculate versions of complexity for free fermionic quantum field theories in 1+1 and 3+1 dimensions, adopting Nielsen's geodesic perspective in the space of circuits. We do this both by discretizing and identifying appropriate classes of Bogoliubov-Valatin transformations, and also directly in the continuum by defining squeezing operators and their generalizations. As a closely related problem, we consider cMERA tensor networks for fermions: viewing them as paths in circuit space, we compute their path lengths. Certain ambiguities that arise in some of these results because of cut-off dependence are discussed.
