Automatic detection of boosted Higgs boson and top quark jets in an event image

We build a deep neural network based on the Mask R-CNN framework to detect the Higgs jets and top quark jets in any event image. We propose an algorithm to assign the top quark final states at the ground truth level so that the network can be trained in a supervised manner. A new jet branch is added to the network, which uses constituent information to predict the four-momenta of the original parton, thus intrinsically implementing the pileup mitigation. The network can predict both the shapes and the momenta of target jets. We show that the network surpasses the LorentzNet in top and Higgs tagging and the PELICAN network in momentum regression for certain cases, in terms of reconstruction efficiency and accuracy. We also show that the performance of the network does not degrade much when applied to events of a process different from the trained one and to events with overlapping jets.

RNA substructure as a random matrix ensemble

Combinatorial analysis of a certain abstract of RNA structures has been studied to investigate their statistics. Our approach regards the backbone of secondary structures as an alternate sequence of paired and unpaired sets of nucleotides, which can be described by random matrix model. We obtain the generating function of the structures using Hermitian matrix model with Chebyshev polynomial of the second kind and analyze the statistics with respect to the number of stems. To match the experimental findings of the statistical behavior, we consider the structures in a grand canonical ensemble and find a fugacity value corresponding to an appropriate number of stems.

Motzkin path on RNA abstract shapes

We consider a certain abstract of RNA secondary structures, which is closely related to RNA shapes. The generating function counting the number of the abstract structures is obtained by means of Narayana numbers and 2-Motzkin paths, through which we provide an identity related to Narayana numbers and Motzkin polynomials. Furthermore, we show that a combinatorial interpretation on 2-Motzkin paths leads to the correspondence between 1-Motkzin paths and RNA shapes, which facilitates probing further classifications or abstractions of the shapes. In this paper, we classify the shapes with respect to the number of components and calculate their asymptotic distributions.

Irregular conformal block, spectral curve and flow equations

Irregular conformal block is motivated by the Argyres-Douglas type of N=2 super conformal gauge theory. We investigate the classical/NS limit of the irregular conformal block using spectral curve on a Riemann surface with irregular punctures, which is equivalent to the loop equation of irregular matrix model. The spectral curve is reduced to the second order (Virasoro symmetry, $SU(2)$ for the gauge theory) and third order ($W_3$ symmetry, $SU(3)$) differential equations of a polynomial with finite degree. The Virasoro and W symmetry generate flow equations in the spectral curve and determine the irregular conformal block, hence the partition function of the Argyres-Douglas theory ala AGT conjecture.

Irregular matrix model with $\mathcal W$ symmetry

We present the irregular matrix model which has contains $\mathcal{W}_3$ and Virasoro symmetry. The irregular matrix model is obtained using the colliding limit of the Toda field theories and produces the inner product between irregular modules of $\mathcal{W}_3$ symmetry. We evaluate the partition function using the flow equation which is the realization of the Virasoro and $\mathcal{W}$-symmetry.

Virasoro irregular conformal block and beta deformed random matrix model

Virasoro irregular conformal block is presented as the expectation value of Jack-polynomials of the beta-deformed Penner-type matrix model and is compared with the inner product of Gaiotto states with arbitrary rank. It is confirmed that there are non-trivial modifications of the Gaiotto states due to the normalization of the states. The relation between the two is explicitly checked for rank 2 irregular conformal block.
