Modular Fluctuations in Cosmology

Verlinde and Zurek (VZ) have proposed that quantum gravity fluctuations in causal diamonds lead to observable effects. In particular, they argued that in quantum gravity causal diamonds have an uncertainty in their size that scales as $δL \sim \sqrt{\ell_p L}$, i.e. fluctuations are enhanced from the Planck scale. In this work, we explore the origin of the VZ scaling by studying scalar perturbations in inflationary cosmology. We reinterpret these cosmological perturbations as fluctuations of the modular Hamiltonian associated with a causal diamond, establishing a connection between modular fluctuations and observable primordial perturbations. Independent of assumptions about the modular Hamiltonian or the background spacetime, our results show that -- whenever an (effective) spherically symmetric perturbation is quantized -- it can lead to the VZ scaling. However, whether such a mode exists in the vacuum of any theory of quantum gravity remains an open question.

Renyi reflected entropy and entanglement wedge cross section with cosmic branes in AdS/BCFT

In this study, we calculate the $m-1$ correction to the reflected entropy for two adjacent intervals on a half-infinite line within the AdS$_3$/BCFT$_2$ framework, where $m$ is a Renyi index for a canonical purification. We utilize the doubling trick and compute the leading terms in the large central charge expansion of correlation functions in the holographic BCFT. In the corresponding AdS space with an end of the world brane, we analyze the entanglement wedge cross section, the dual counterpart of reflected entropy. This AdS/BCFT setup allows us to explore a richer set of phases in the entanglement wedge cross section. The $m-1$ correction in the holographic BCFT manifests as modifications in the entanglement wedge cross section induced by cosmic branes. For the adjacent intervals anchored to the boundary of BCFT, we show the duality between the entanglement wedge cross section with the backreaction from a cosmic brane and Renyi reflected entropy at all orders in $m-1$. Furthermore, by analyzing the entanglement wedge cross section for general adjacent intervals, we provide guidance for an $ε$-expansion of five-point functions in the holographic CFT, where $ε$ is the rescaled conformal dimension by the central charge.

Quantum-Gravitational Null Raychaudhuri Equation

We consider a congruence of null geodesics in the presence of a quantized spacetime metric. The coupling to a quantum metric induces fluctuations in the congruence; we calculate the change in the area of a pencil of geodesics induced by such fluctuations. For the gravitational field in its vacuum state, we find that quantum gravity contributes a correction to the null Raychaudhuri equation which is of the same sign as the classical terms. We thus derive a quantum-gravitational focusing theorem valid for linearized quantum gravity.

Rindler Fluids from Gravitational Shockwaves

We study a correspondence between gravitational shockwave geometry and its fluid description near a Rindler horizon in Minkowski spacetime. Utilizing the Petrov classification that describes algebraic symmetries for Lorentzian spaces, we establish an explicit mapping between a potential fluid and the shockwave metric perturbation, where the Einstein equation for the shockwave geometry is equivalent to the incompressibility condition of the fluid, augmented by a shockwave source. Then we consider an Ansatz of a stochastic quantum source for the potential fluid, which has the physical interpretation of shockwaves created by vacuum energy fluctuations. Under such circumstance, the Einstein equation, or equivalently, the incompressibility condition for the fluid, becomes a stochastic differential equation. By smearing the quantum source on a stretched horizon in a Lorentz invariant manner with a Planckian width (similarly to the membrane paradigm), we integrate fluctuations near the Rindler horizon to find an accumulated effect of the variance in the round-trip time of a photon traversing the horizon of a causal diamond.

Traversable wormholes via a double trace deformation involving $U(1)$ conserved current operators

We study the effects of conservation laws on wormholes that are made traversable by a double trace deformation. After coupling the two asymptotic boundaries of a maximally extended $(d+1)$ dimensional black brane geometry with $U(1)$ conserved current operators, we find that the quantum matter stress-energy tensor of the corresponding bulk gauge fields in the hydrodynamic limit violates the averaged null energy condition (ANEC), rendering the wormhole traversable. Applying our results to axionic two-sided black hole solutions, we discuss how the wormhole opening depends on the charge diffusion constant, how this affects the amount of information that can be sent through the wormhole, and possible implications for many-body quantum teleportation protocols involving conserved current operators.

A tripartite entanglement in de Sitter spacetime

We investigate the quantum correlation for tripartite entangled states in de Sitter space. First, we adopt the noisy quantum channel model. In this model, the expansion effect is represented by an operator sum representation with its corresponding Kraus operator. This map is shown to be trace-preserving and completely positive. Second, we analyze the quantum correlation by using the channel-state correspondence. For a large expansion rate, the tripartite mutual information has a large negative value, which corresponds to a small magnitude of bipartite mutual information. We relate this result with the challenge of recovering information from local measurements.

Quantum Gravity Fluctuations in the Timelike Raychaudhuri Equation

We consider a timelike geodesic congruence in the presence of perturbative quantum fluctuations of the spacetime metric. We calculate the change in the volume of a bundle of geodesics due to such fluctuations and thereby obtain a quantum-gravitationally modified timelike Raychaudhuri equation. Quantum gravity generically increases the convergence of congruences and the production of caustics.

Islands in charged linear dilaton black holes

We investigate the Page curve for a non-standard black hole which is asymptotically non-flat/AdS/dS. For this purpose, we apply the island prescription to the charged linear dilaton black holes and analyze, in detail, the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation for both the non-extremal case and the extremal case. In the non-extremal case, we find the Page curve consistent with the unitarity principle: at early times the entanglement entropy grows linearly in time without the island and at late times it is saturated double of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in the presence of the island. We observe the Page time is universal for all different models studied by our method: $t_{\text{Page}}=\frac{3}{ πc}\frac{S_{\text{BH}}}{T_H}.$ For the extremal case, the island prescription provides the well defined entanglement entropy only with the island, which can not be obtained from the continuous limit of the non-extremal case. This implies that the Page curve may not be reproduced for the extremal case and further investigation is needed.

Holographic teleportation in higher dimensions

We study higher-dimensional traversable wormholes in the context of Rindler-AdS/CFT. The hyperbolic slicing of a pure AdS geometry can be thought of as a topological black hole that is dual to a conformal field theory in the hyperbolic space. The maximally extended geometry contains two exterior regions (the Rindler wedges of AdS) which are connected by a wormhole. We show that this wormhole can be made traversable by a double trace deformation that violates the average null energy condition (ANEC) in the bulk. We find an analytic formula for the ANEC violation that generalizes Gao-Jafferis-Wall result to higher-dimensional cases, and we show that the same result can be obtained using the eikonal approximation. We show that the bound on the amount of information that can be transferred through the wormhole quickly reduces as we increase the dimensionality of spacetime. We also compute a two-sided commutator that diagnoses traversability and show that, under certain conditions, the information that is transferred through the wormhole propagates with butterfly speed $v_B = \frac{1}{d-1}$.
