SurfPhase: 3D Interfacial Dynamics in Two-Phase Flows from Sparse Videos

Interfacial dynamics in two-phase flows govern momentum, heat, and mass transfer, yet remain difficult to measure experimentally. Classical techniques face intrinsic limitations near moving interfaces, while existing neural rendering methods target single-phase flows with diffuse boundaries and cannot handle sharp, deformable liquid-vapor interfaces. We propose SurfPhase, a novel model for reconstructing 3D interfacial dynamics from sparse camera views. Our approach integrates dynamic Gaussian surfels with a signed distance function formulation for geometric consistency, and leverages a video diffusion model to synthesize novel-view videos to refine reconstruction from sparse observations. We evaluate on a new dataset of high-speed pool boiling videos, demonstrating high-quality view synthesis and velocity estimation from only two camera views. Bubble2Heat: Optical to Thermal Inference in Pool Boiling Using Physics-encoded Generative AI

Phase change process plays a critical role in thermal management systems, yet quantitative characterization of multiphase heat transfer remains limited by the challenges of measuring temperature fields in chaotic, rapidly evolving flow regimes. While computational methods offer temperature data at a high spatiotemporal resolution in ideal cases, replicating complex experimental conditions remains prohibitively difficult. In this paper, we present a deep learning framework that can generate temperature field data at simulation resolution from segmented high-speed recordings and pointwise thermocouple readings which are typically available in a canonical pool boiling experimental configuration without requiring advanced techniques. This framework leverages a conditional generative adversarial network trained only on simulation data. To ensure direct applicability of the model to experimental data, our framework also introduces a preprocessing pipeline that aligns high resolution simulation data with experimental measurements through both conventional image processing and image segmentation with pretrained convolutional neural network. We further show that standard data augmentation strategies are effective in enhancing the physical plausibility of the inference when precise physical constraints are not applicable. Our results highlight the potential of deep generative models to bridge the gap between observable multiphase phenomena and underlying thermal transport, offering a powerful approach to augment and interpret experimental measurements in complex two-phase systems.

EventFlow: Real-Time Neuromorphic Event-Driven Classification of Two-Phase Boiling Flow Regimes

Flow boiling is an efficient heat transfer mechanism capable of dissipating high heat loads with minimal temperature variation, making it an ideal thermal management method. However, sudden shifts between flow regimes can disrupt thermal performance and system reliability, highlighting the need for accurate and low-latency real-time monitoring. Conventional optical imaging methods are limited by high computational demands and insufficient temporal resolution, making them inadequate for capturing transient flow behavior. To address this, we propose a real-time framework based on signals from neuromorphic sensors for flow regime classification. Neuromorphic sensors detect changes in brightness at individual pixels, which typically correspond to motion at edges, enabling fast and efficient detection without full-frame reconstruction, providing event-based information. We develop five classification models using both traditional image data and event-based data, demonstrating that models leveraging event data outperform frame-based approaches due to their sensitivity to dynamic flow features. Among these models, the event-based long short-term memory model provides the best balance between accuracy and speed, achieving 97.6% classification accuracy with a processing time of 0.28 ms. Our asynchronous processing pipeline supports continuous, low-latency predictions and delivers stable output through a majority voting mechanisms, enabling reliable real-time feedback for experimental control and intelligent thermal management.

Constraining MeV to 10 GeV majoron by Big Bang Nucleosynthesis

We estimate the Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) constraint on the majoron in the mass range between $1\,{\rm MeV}$ to $10\,{\rm GeV}$ which dominantly decays into the standard model neutrinos. When the majoron lifetime is shorter than $1\,{\rm sec}$, the injected neutrinos mainly heat up background plasma, which alters the relation between photon temperature and background neutrino temperature. For a lifetime longer than $1\,{\rm sec}$, most of the injected neutrinos directly contribute to the protons-to-neutrons conversion. In both cases, deuterium and helium abundances are enhanced, while the constraint from the deuterium is stronger than that from the helium. $^7{\rm Li}$ abundance gets decreased as a consequence of additional neutrons, but the parameter range that fits the observed $^7{\rm Li}$ abundance is excluded by the deuterium constraint. We also estimate other cosmological constraints and compare them with the BBN bound.

Higgs potential and hidden light Higgs scenario in two Higgs doublet models

In two Higgs doublet models (2HDM), there exists an interesting possibility, the hidden light Higgs scenario, that the discovered SM-like Higgs boson is the heavier \textit{CP}-even Higgs boson $H^0$ and the lighter \textit{CP}-even $h^0$ has not been observed yet in any experiment. We study the current status of this scenario in Types I, II, X, and Y, through the scans of the 2HDM parameters with all relevant theoretical and experimental constraints. We employ not only the most up-to-date Higgs signal strength measurements with the feed-down effects, but also all the available LHC exclusion limits from heavy Higgs searches. Adjusting the heavier $H^0$ to the 125 GeV state while hiding the lighter $h^0$ from the LEP Higgs search prohibits the extreme decoupling limit: there exist upper bounds on the masses of the pseudoscalar $A^0$ and the charged Higgs $H^\pm$ below about 600 GeV. In addition, the $Z_2$ symmetry is shown to be a good approximate symmetry since the soft $Z_2$ symmetry breaking parameter $m_{12}^2$ should be less than about (45 GeV)$^2$. Most interestingly, a few parameters in the Higgs potential and the related Higgs triple and quartic couplings are shown to be meaningfully constrained by the current data. The double Higgs-strahlung process at an $e^+ e^-$ collider is also studied.

Two Higgs doublet models for the LHC Higgs boson data at $\sqrt{s}=$ 7 and 8 TeV

Updated LHC data on the new 126 GeV boson during the 7 and 8 TeV runnings strengthen the standard model Higgs boson interpretation further. Through the global $χ^2$ analysis, we investigate whether the new particle could be one of the scalar particles in two Higgs doublet models. Four types (Type I, II, X and Y) are comprehensively studied. Taking the recent analysis on the spin-parity of the new boson, we consider two scenarios: the new boson is either the light CP-even one ($h^0$) or the heavy CP-even one ($H^0$). It is found that both scenarios are consistent with the new data, not only in the parameter regions near the decoupling limit but also in other regions far from the decoupling limit. In addition, the current data are compatible with the possibility that the light Higgs boson $h^0$ is hidden in the mass window of 90-100 GeV. The diphoton or $ττ$ channel can provide a probe of this possibility by the enhanced signal rates.

Comprehensive study of two Higgs doublet model in light of the new boson with mass around 125 GeV

The recent discovery of a new boson of mass roughly 125 GeV has been reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. Although its signals in various decay modes resemble those of the standard model (SM) Higgs boson, observed are the combinations of entangled information about the production, decay rates and total decay width of the new boson. In addition, some decay channels show non-negligible deviation from the SM expectation, such as the $2σ$ excess in the diphoton channel. In the four types (I, II, X and Y) of two Higgs doublet models, we perform the global $χ^2$ fit in three scenarios: (i) the new boson is the light CP-even Higgs boson $h^0$; (ii) it is the heavy CP-even Higgs boson $H^0$; (iii) the signals are from degenerate $h^0$ and the pseudoscalar $A^0$. Considering other phenomenological constraints such as flavor physics, electroweak precision data, and the LEP search for the Higgs boson, we find that the the first scenarios in Type II and Type Y models actually provide better or similarly good fit to the data than the SM. All the other models are excluded at 95% C.L..

Direct bound on the minimal Universal Extra Dimension model from the $t\bar{t}$ resonance search at the Tevatron

In the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (mUED) model, the second Kaluza-Klein (KK) gluon $g^{(2)}$ has loop-induced vertices with the standard model quarks, mediated by the first KK modes of the quark and the gluon/Higgs boson. With a top quark pair, this vertex is enhanced by the cooperation of the strong coupling of a gluon and the large Yukawa coupling of a top quark, leading to substantial branching ratio of $Br(g^{(2)} \to t \bar{t}) \approx 7%-8%$. As the $g^{(2)}$ coupling with two gluons appears via dimension-6 operator, $q\bar{q}\to g^{(2)}\to t\bar{t}$ is the golden mode for the mUED model. Hence the best channel is the $t\bar{t}$ resonance search in $p\bar{p}$ collisions. The recent Tevatron data at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV with an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb$^{-1}$ are shown to give the first direct bound on the $g^{(2)}$ mass above 800 GeV. The implication and future prospect at the LHC are discussed also.

Probing axino LSP from diphotons events with large missing transverse energy

In a supersymmetry model with an axino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a Bino as the next LSP (NLSP), supersymmetry particles produced in pair at a high energy collider end up with including two Binos, followed by each Bino's decay into a photon and an axino. Final states are diphoton with large missing energy. We have comprehensively studied the implication of $γγ+$MET data from the ALEPH, CDF II, and recent ATLAS and CMS experiments. No excess over the standard model backgrounds can be explained in this model if the NLSP Bino decays outside the detector, which happens when the axino decay constant $f_a$ is large enough. The ALEPH and CDF II data put a very strong bound on $f_a$ for light Bino case with $m_{\tilde{B}} < 150$ GeV: the narrow hadronic axion window around $f_a \sim 10^6$ GeV is completely closed. In the case where the gluino mass is smaller than about 776 GeV, the recent ATLAS data limit $f_a > 10^5$ GeV for the Bino mass below 700 GeV. This is already stronger than the previous laboratory bounds.

Implications on the mUED model from the early LHC data on $\ell+\met$ signal

Recently the ATLAS and CMS collaborations reported their search for a new heavy gauge boson $W'$ with one lepton plus missing transverse momentum. We find that $W^{(2)}$, the second Kaluza-Kelin (KK) state of the $W$ boson in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (mUED) model, can be a good candidate for this signal, as its branching ratio into $\ellν$ is sizable. Moreover, nearly degenerate KK mass spectra in the mUED model yield generically very soft SM particle accompanying $W^{(2)}$ from the subsequent decays of the second KK quarks and gluons. In a hadron collider, this indirect $W^{(2)}$ production is difficult to distinguish from the $W^{(2)}$ single production. The involved strong interactions make it more important than the single production. The early LHC data on $\ell+\met$ signal for 1.1 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity is shown insufficient to limit our model even with significant indirect production of $W^{(2)}$. However, the results show that the present LHC 5.6 fb$^{-1}$ data can cover most of the reasonable parameter space of the mUED model.

The second Kaluza-Klein neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension model

Loop-induced decay of a neutral Higgs boson into a pair of gluons or photons has great implications for the Higgs discovery at the LHC. If the Higgs boson is heavy with mass above $\sim 500\gev$, however, these radiative branching ratios are very suppressed in the standard model (SM), as the new decay channels are kinematically open. We note that these radiative decays can be sizable for the heavy CP-odd second Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode of the Higgs boson, $χ^\tw$, in the minimal universal extra dimension model: highly degenerate mass spectrum of the theory prohibits kinematically the dominant KK-number-conserving decays into the first KK modes of the $W$, $Z$ and top quark. We find that the CP-even decay of $h^{(2)} \to g g$ is absent at one-loop level since $h^{(2)}$ couples with different mass eigenstates of $t_{1,2}^\on$ while a gluon does with the same mass eigenstates. The $h^\tw$ production at the LHC is very suppressed. On the contrary, the process $ gg \to χ^\tw \to γγ$ in an optimal scenario can be observed with manageable SM backgrounds at the LHC.

The CDF dijet excess and Z'_{cs} coupled to the second generation quarks

Recently the CDF collaboration has reported the excess in the dijet invariant-mass distribution of the Wjj events, corresponding to a significance of 3.2 standard deviations. Considering the lack of similar excesses in the $γjj$ and $Z jj$ events yet, we propose a new Z' model: Z' couples only to the second generation quarks. Single production of $\zsc$ as well as associated production with $W,γ, Z$ are mainly from the sea quarks. Only $W Z'$ production has additional contribution from one valence quark and one sea quark, which is allowed by CKM mixing. We found that if the new gauge coupling is large enough, marginally permitted by perturbativity, this new model can explain the observed CDF $Wjj$ anomaly as well as the lack of $\gm jj$ and $Z jj$ anomalies. Vanishing coupling of Z'-b-b protects this model from the constraint of p pbar ->WH -> lνb \bar{b}.

The B ---> π K puzzle and the Bulk Randall-Sundurm model

The recent measurements of the direct CP asymmetries ($A_{CP}$) in the penguin-dominated $B\to K π$ decays show some discrepancy from the standard model (SM) prediction. While $A_{CP}$ of $B^+ \to π^0 K^+$ and that of $B^0 \to π^- K^+$ in the naive estimate of the SM are expected to have very similar values, their experimental data are of the opposite sign and different magnitudes. We study the effects of the custodial bulk Randall-Sundrum model on this $A_{CP}$. In this model, the misalignment of the five-dimensional (5D) Yukawa interactions to the 5D bulk gauge interactions in flavor space leads to tree-level flavor-changing neutral current by the Kaluza-Klein gauge bosons. In a large portion of the parameter space of this model, the observed nonzero $A_{CP}(B^+ \to π^0 K^+) - A_{CP}(B^0 \to π^- K^+)$ can be explained only with low Kaluza-Klein mass scale $M_{KK}$ around 1 TeV. Rather extreme parameters is required to explain it with $M_{KK}\simeq 3\tev$. The new contributions to well-measured branching ratios of $B \to K π$ decays are also shown to be suppressed.

Custodial bulk Randall-Sundrum model and B->K* l+ l'-

The custodial Randall-Sundrum model based on SU(2)_L X SU(2)_R X U(1)_(B-L) generates new flavor-changing-neutral-current (FCNC) phenomena at tree level, mediated by Kaluza-Klein neutral gauge bosons. Based on two natural assumptions of universal 5D Yukawa couplings and no-cancellation in explaining the observed standard model fermion mixing matrices, we determine the bulk Dirac mass parameters. Phenomenological constraints from lepton-flavor-violations are also used to specify the model. From the comprehensive study of B->K* l+ l'-, we found that only the B->K*ee decay has sizable new physics effects. The zero value position of the forward-backward asymmetry in this model is also evaluated, with about 5% deviation from the SM result. Other effective observables are also suggested such as the ratio of two differential (or partially integrated) decay rates of B->K*ee and B->K*mu mu. For the first KK gauge boson mass of M_A^(1)=2-4 TeV, we can have about 10-20% deviation from the SM results.

Constraint of B_{d,s}-bar{B}_{d,s} mixing on warped extra-dimension model

Recent CDF measurement of the Bs-Bs oscillation frequency, at the Tevatron imposes significant constraint on various models for new physics. A warped extra-dimension model with custodial isospin symmetry accommodates the Bd-Bd mixing at tree level mainly through the Kaluza-Klein gluons. This is due to the misalignment between the bulk gauge eigenstates and the localized Yukawa eigenstates of the bulk fermions. We adopt the universal 5D Yukawa coupling model where all Yukawa couplings are of order one. The SM fermion mass spectra and mixings are controlled by the bulk Dirac mass parameters. With two versions of the hadronic parameter values, we investigate the implication of the observed BB mixings on this model. The CP-violating effects on the Bd system is shown to provide very strong constraint: The first Kaluza-Klein mass of a gluon has its lower bound about 3.7 TeV with 1 sigma uncertainty.

Hierarchical Mass Structure of Fermions in Warped Extra Dimension

The warped bulk standard model has been studied in the Randall-Sundrum background on $S^1/\Z\times\Z'$ interval with the bulk gauge symmetry $SU(3)\times SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times U(1)_{B-L}$. With the assumption of no large cancellation between the fermion flavor mixing matrices, we present a simple analytic method to determine the bulk masses of standard model fermions in the almost universal bulk Yukawa coupling model. We also predict $U_{e3}$ element of MNS matrix to be near the experimental upper bound when the neutrino masses are of Dirac type.

Kaluza-Klein masses of bulk fields with general boundary conditions in AdS$_5$

Recently bulk Randall-Sundrum theories with the gauge group $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times U(1)_{B-L}$ have drawn a lot of interest as an alternative to electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism. These models are in better agreement with electroweak precision data since custodial isospin symmetry on the IR brane is protected by the extended bulk gauge symmetry. We comprehensively study, in the $S^1/\ZZ$ orbifold, the bulk gauge and fermion fields with the general boundary conditions as well as the bulk and localized mass terms. Master equations to determine the Kaluza-Klein (KK) mass spectra are derived without any approximation, which is an important basic step for various phenomenologies at high energy colliders. The correspondence between orbifold boundary conditions and localized mass terms is demonstrated not only in the gauge sector but also in the fermion sector. As the localized mass increases, the first KK fermion mass is shown to decrease while the first KK gauge boson mass to increase. The degree of gauge coupling universality violation is computed to be small in most parameter space, and its correlation with the mass difference between the top quark and light quark KK mode is also studied.

Minimal seesaw model with tri/bi-maximal mixing and leptogenesis

We examine minimal seesaw mechanism in which the masses of light neutrinos are described with tri/bi-maximal mixing in the basis where the charged-lepton Yukawa matrix and heavy Majorana neutrino mass matrix are diagonal. We search for all possible Dirac mass textures which contain at least one zero entry in $3 \times 2$ matrix and evaluate the corresponding lepton asymmetries. We present the baryon asymmetry in terms of a single low energy unknown, a Majorana CP phase to be clued from neutrinoless double beta decay.
