Molecular spin qubits in a van der Waals bottle

Advancing quantum information technologies requires qubits whose coherence can be precisely engineered. Among the qubit platforms in development, molecular spin qubits (MSQs) stand out for their atomic scale tunability and chemical specificity, making them powerful candidates for sensing, simulation, and information processing. However, integrating MSQs into solid-state architectures without degrading their coherence remains a central challenge. Here, we introduce van der Waals (vdW) confinement within two-dimensional materials as a strategy for stabilizing quantum states in MSQs by engineering their local electronic, vibrational, and symmetry environments. Using cobaltocene as a model system, we show that confinement within vdW SnS2 and CdPS3 single crystals reorganizes the single-ion energy landscape and slows spin-lattice relaxation by over two orders of magnitude relative to unconfined cobaltocene. The confined MSQs adopt deterministic orientations and self-assemble into ordered, atomically precise superlattices, establishing vdW confinement as a pathway for integrating MSQs into functional quantum devices.

Ultrasensitive Textile Strain Sensors Redefine Wearable Silent Speech Interfaces with High Machine Learning Efficiency

Our research presents a wearable Silent Speech Interface (SSI) technology that excels in device comfort, time-energy efficiency, and speech decoding accuracy for real-world use. We developed a biocompatible, durable textile choker with an embedded graphene-based strain sensor, capable of accurately detecting subtle throat movements. This sensor, surpassing other strain sensors in sensitivity by 420%, simplifies signal processing compared to traditional voice recognition methods. Our system uses a computationally efficient neural network, specifically a one-dimensional convolutional neural network with residual structures, to decode speech signals. This network is energy and time-efficient, reducing computational load by 90% while achieving 95.25% accuracy for a 20-word lexicon and swiftly adapting to new users and words with minimal samples. This innovation demonstrates a practical, sensitive, and precise wearable SSI suitable for daily communication applications.

Spectral functions of CVD grown MoS$_2$ monolayers after chemical transfer onto Au surface

The recent rise of van der Waals (vdW) crystals has opened new prospects for studying versatile and exotic fundamental physics with future device applications such as twistronics. Even though the recent development on Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) with Nano-focusing optics, making clean surfaces and interfaces of chemically transferred crystals have been challenging to obtain high-resolution ARPES spectra. Here, we show that by employing nano-ARPES with submicron sized beam and polystyrene-assisted transfer followed by annealing process in ultra-high vacuum environment, remarkably clear ARPES spectral features such as spin-orbit splitting and band renormalization of CVD-grown, monolayered MoS2 can be measured. Our finding paves a way to exploit chemically transferred crystals for measuring high-resolution ARPES spectra to observe exotic quasi-particles in vdW heterostructures.
