On the structures of hive algebras and tensor product algebras for general linear groups of low rank

The tensor product algebra TA(n) for the complex general linear group GL(n), introduced by Howe et al., describes the decomposition of tensor products of irreducible polynomial representations of GL(n). Using the hive model for the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients, we provide a finite presentation of the algebra TA(n) for n=2, 3, 4 in terms of generators and relations, thereby giving a description of highest weight vectors of irreducible representations in the tensor products. We also compute the generating function of certain sums of Littlewood-Richardson coefficients.

A filtration on the ring of Laurent polynomials and representations of the general linear Lie algebra

We first present a filtration on the ring L of Laurent polynomials such that the direct sum decomposition of its associated graded ring gr L agrees with the direct sum decomposition of gr L, as a module over the complex general linear Lie algebra gl(n), into its simple submodules. Next, generalizing the simple modules occurring in gr L, we give some explicit constructions of weight multiplicity-free irreducible representations of gl(n).

Hibi algebras and representation theory

This paper gives a survey on the relation between Hibi algebras and representation theory. The notion of Hodge algebras or algebras with straightening laws has been proved to be very useful to describe the structure of many important algebras in classical invariant theory and representation theory. In particular, a special type of such algebras introduced by Hibi provides a nice bridge between combinatorics and representation theory of classical groups. We will examine certain poset structures of Young tableaux and affine monoids, Hibi algebras in toric degenerations of flag varieties, and their relations to polynomial representations of the complex general linear group.

Row Convex Tableaux and Bott-Samelson Varieties

By using row convex tableaux, we study the section rings of Bott-Samelson varieties of type A. We obtain flat deformations and standard monomial type bases of the section rings. In a separate section, we investigate a three dimensional Bott-Samelson variety in detail and compute its Hilbert polynomial and toric degenerations.

Quivers, Invariants and Quotient Correspondence

This paper studies the geometric and algebraic aspects of the moduli spaces of quivers of fence type. We first provide two quotient presentations of the quiver varieties and interpret their equivalence as a generalized Gelfand-MacPherson correspondence. Next, we introduce parabolic quivers and extend the above from the actions of reductive groups to the actions of parabolic subgroups. Interestingly, the above geometry finds its natural counterparts in the representation theory as the branching rules and transfer principle in the context of the reciprocity algebra. The last half of the paper establishes this connection.

Tiling branching multiplicity spaces with GL2 pattern blocks

We study branching multiplicity spaces of complex classical groups in terms of GL(2) representations. In particular, we show how combinatorics of GL(2) representations are intertwined to make branching rules under the restriction of GL(n) to GL(n-2). We also discuss analogous results for the symplectic and orthogonal groups.

Distributive Lattices, Affine Semigroups, and Branching Rules of the Classical Groups

We study algebras encoding stable range branching rules for the pairs of complex classical groups of the same type in the context of toric degenerations of spherical varieties. By lifting affine semigroup algebras constructed from combinatorial data of branching multiplicities, we obtain algebras having highest weight vectors in multiplicity spaces as their standard monomial type bases. In particular, we identify a family of distributive lattices and their associated Hibi algebras which can uniformly describe the stable range branching algebras for all the pairs we consider.

A Basis for the Symplectic Group Branching Algebra

The symplectic group branching algebra, B, is a graded algebra whose components encode the multiplicities of irreducible representations of Sp(2n-2,C) in each irreducible representation of Sp(2n,C). By describing on B an ASL structure, we construct an explicit standard monomial basis of B consisting of Sp(2n-2,C) highest weight vectors. Moreover, B is known to carry a canonical action of the n-fold product SL(2) \times ... \times SL(2), and we show that the standard monomial basis is the unique (up to scalar) weight basis associated to this representation. Finally, using the theory of Hibi algebras we describe a deformation of Spec(B) into an explicit toric variety.

Standard Monomial Theory of RR varieties

We construct the RR varieties as the fiber products of Bott-Samelson varieties over Richardson varieties. We study their homogeneous coordinate rings and standard monomial theory.

The nullcone in the multi-vector representation of the symplectic group and related combinatorics

We study the nullcone in the multi-vector representation of the symplectic group with respect to a joint action of the general linear group and the symplectic group. By extracting an algebra over a distributive lattice structure from the coordinate ring of the nullcone, we describe a toric degeneration and standard monomial theory of the nullcone in terms of double tableaux and integral points in a convex polyhedral cone.

Pieri algebras for the orthogonal and symplectic groups

We study the structure of a family of algebras which encodes a generalization of the Pieri Rule for the complex orthogonal group. In particular, we show that each of these algebras has a standard monomial basis and has a flat deformation to a Hibi algebra. There is also a parallel theory for the complex symplectic group.

On Kostant's partial order on hyperbolic elements

We study Kostant's partial order on the elements of a semisimple Lie group in relations with the finite dimensional representations. In particular, we prove the converse statement of [3, Theorem 6.1] on hyperbolic elements.
