Pressure-Temperature Phase Diagram of Vanadium Dioxide

The complexity of strongly correlated electron physics in vanadium dioxide is exemplified as its rich phase diagrams of all kinds, which in turn shed light on the mechanisms behind its various phase transitions. In this work, we map out the hydrostatic pressure - temperature phase diagram of vanadium dioxide nanobeams by independently varying pressure and temperature with a diamond anvil cell. In addition to the well-known insulating M1 (monoclinic) and metallic R (tetragonal) phases, the diagram identifies the existence at high pressures of the insulating M1' (monoclinic, more conductive than M1) phase, and two metallic phases of X (monoclinic) and O (orthorhombic, at high temperature only). Systematic optical and electrical measurements combined with density functional calculations allow us to delineate their phase boundaries as well as reveal some basic features of the transitions.

Elastic Properties of Chemical-Vapor-Deposited Monolayer MoS2, WS2, and Their Bilayer Heterostructures

Elastic properties of materials are an important factor in their integration in applications. Chemical vapor deposited (CVD) monolayer semiconductors are proposed as key components in industrial-scale flexible devices and building blocks of 2D van der Waals heterostructures. However, their mechanical and elastic properties have not been fully characterized. Here we report high 2D elastic moduli of CVD monolayer MoS2 and WS2 (~ 170 N/m), which is very close to the value of exfoliated MoS2 monolayers and almost half the value of the strongest material, graphene. The 2D moduli of their bilayer heterostructures are lower than the sum of 2D modulus of each layer, but comparable to the corresponding bilayer homostructure, implying similar interactions between the hetero monolayers as between homo monolayers. These results not only provide deep insight to understanding interlayer interactions in 2D van der Waals structures, but also potentially allow engineering of their elastic properties as desired.

Examples of Matrix Factorizations from SYZ

We find matrix factorization corresponding to an anti-diagonal in ${\mathbb C}P^1 \times {\mathbb C}P^1$, and circle fibers in weighted projective lines using the idea of Chan and Leung of Strominger-Yau-Zaslow transformations. For the tear drop orbifolds, we apply this idea to find matrix factorizations for two types of potential, the usual Hori-Vafa potential or the bulk deformed (orbi)-potential. We also show that the direct sum of anti-diagonal with its shift, is equivalent to the direct sum of central torus fibers with holonomy $(1,-1)$ and $(-1,1)$ in the Fukaya category of ${\mathbb C}P^1 \times {\mathbb C}P^1$, which was predicted by Kapustin and Li from B-model calculations.

Potentials of homotopy cyclic $\AI$-algebras

For a cyclic $\AI$-algebra, a potential recording the structure constants can be defined. We define an analogous potential for a homotopy cyclic $\AI$-algebra and prove its properties. On the other hand, we find another different potential for a homotopy cyclic $\AI$-algebra, which is related to the algebraic analogue of generalized holonomy map of Abbaspour, Tradler and Zeinalian.

Notes on Kontsevich-Soibelman's theorem about cyclic A-infinity algebras

Kontsevich and Soibelman has proved a relation between a non-degenerate cyclic homology element of an A-infinity algebra A and its cyclic inner products on the minimal model of A. We find an explicit formula of this correspondence, in terms of the strong homotopy inner products and negative cyclic cohomology of A. We prove that an equivalence class of the induced strong homotopy inner product depends only on the given negative cyclic cohomology class. Also, we extend such a correspondence to the case of gapped filtered A-infinity algebras.
