Emergent new symmetry from the Higgs shadow

We show in this Letter how a new hidden gauge symmetry responsible for neutrino mass as well as dark matter (DM) in the Universe can be discovered through scalar mediators responsible for breaking the new symmetry. The new force mediator ($Z'$) may be lighter than the Standard Model (SM) gauge bosons but cannot be observed in traditional searches for new gauge bosons. We highlight a novel way of discovering such a symmetry at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by incorporating an existing ATLAS analysis on four lepton final states which include the Higgs resonance. In addition, we show that the hidden sector also introduces flavor violation in the lepton sector which can become a significant channel of discovery for the new force.

Signals for vector-like leptons in an $S_3$-symmetric 2HDM at ILC

In this work, we explore the signals of an $S_3$-symmetric two Higgs doublet model with two generations of vector-like leptons (VLLs) at the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC). The lightest neutral component of the VLL in this model provides a viable dark matter (DM) candidate satisfying the current relic density data as well as circumventing all direct and indirect DM search constraints. Some representative benchmark points have been selected with low, medium and high DM masses, satisfying all theoretical and experimental constraints of the model and constraints coming from the DM sector. The VLLs (both neutral and charged) will be produced in pair leading to multi-lepton and multi-jet final states. We show that the ILC will prove to be a much more efficient and useful machine to hunt for such signals compared to LHC. Using traditional cut-based analysis as well as sophisticated multivariate analysis, we perform a detailed analysis of some promising channels containing mono-lepton plus di-jet, di-lepton, four-lepton and four jets along with missing transverse energy in the final state at 1 TeV ILC.

Confronting dark fermion with a doubly charged Higgs in the left-right symmetric model

We consider a fermionic dark matter (DM) in the left-right symmetric framework by introducing a pair of vector-like (VL) doublets in the particle spectrum. The stability of the DM is ensured through an unbroken $\mathcal{Z}_2$ symmetry. We explore the parameter space of the model compatible with the observed relic density and direct and indirect detection cross sections. The presence of charged dark fermions opens up an interesting possibility for the doubly charged Higgs signal at LHC and ILC. The signal for the doubly charged scalar decaying into the dark sector is analyzed in multilepton final states for a few representative parameter choices consistent with DM observations.

Search for a light $Z^\prime$ at LHC in a neutrinophilic $U(1)$ model

We consider a neutrinophilic $U(1)$ extension of the standard model (SM) which couples only to SM isosinglet neutral fermions, charged under the new group. The neutral fermions couple to the SM matter fields through Yukawa interactions. The neutrinos in the model get their masses from a standard inverse-seesaw mechanism while an added scalar sector is responsible for the breaking of the gauged $U(1)$ leading to a light neutral gauge boson ($Z'$), which has minimal interaction with the SM sector. We study the phenomenology of having such a light $Z'$ in the context of neutrinophilic interactions as well as the role of allowing kinetic mixing between the new $U(1)$ group with the SM hypercharge group. We show that current experimental searches allow for a very light $Z'$ if it does not couple to SM fields directly and highlight the search strategies at the LHC. We observe that multilepton final states in the form of $(4\ell + \slashed{E}_T)$ and $(3\ell + 2j + \slashed{E}_T)$ could be crucial in discovering such a neutrinophilic gauge boson lying in a mass range of $200$--$500$ GeV.

Dark Matter and Collider Searches in $S_3$-Symmetric 2HDM with Vector Like Leptons

We study the $S_3$-symmetric two Higgs doublet model by adding two generations of vector like leptons (VLL) which are odd under a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. The lightest neutral component of the VLL acts as a dark matter (DM) whereas the full VLL set belongs to a dark sector with no mixings allowed with the standard model fermions. We analyse the model in light of dark matter and collider searches. We show that the DM is compatible with the current relic density data as well as satisfying all direct and indirect dark matter search constraints. We choose some representative points in the model parameter space allowed by all aforementioned dark matter constraints and present a detailed collider analysis of multi-lepton signal viz. the mono-lepton, di-lepton, tri-lepton and four-lepton along with missing transverse energy in the final state using both the cut-based analysis and multivariate analysis respectively at the high luminosity 14 TeV LHC run.

Impact of a colored vector resonance on the collider constraints for top-like top partner

In this work we reappraise the collider constraints from leptonic final states on the vectorlike colored top partners taking into account the impact of exotic colored vector resonances. These colored states are intrinsic to a broad class of models that employ a strongly interacting sector to drive electroweak symmetry breaking. We translate the recent results in the {\sl monolepton + jets} channel as reported by CMS with an integrated luminosity of 35.8 fb$^{-1}$, and {\sl dilepton + jets} and {\sl trilepton + jets} channels as reported by ATLAS with an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ to constrain the parameter space of these class of models. We also comment on the impact and modification of the derived constraints due to the expected fatness of the colored vector resonance, when accounted for beyond the narrow-width approximation by simulating the full one-particle irreducible resummed propagator.

Boosted jet techniques for a supersymmetric scenario with gravitino LSP

Search for compressed supersymmetry at multi-TeV scale, in the presence of a light gravitino dark matter, can get sizable uplift while looking into the associated fat-jets with missing transverse momenta as a signature of the boson produced in the decay process of much heavier next-to-lightest sparticle. We focus on the hadronic decay of the ensuing Higgs and/or $Z$ boson giving rise to at least two fat-jets and $\slashed{E}_T$ in the final state. We perform a detailed background study adopting a multivariate analysis using a boosted decision tree to provide a robust investigation to explore the discovery potential for such signal at 14 TeV LHC considering different benchmark points satisfying all the theoretical and experimental constraints. This channel provides the best discovery prospects with most of the benchmarks discoverable within an integrated luminosity of $\mathcal{L}=200$ fb$^{-1}$. Kinematic observables are investigated in order to distinguish between compressed and uncompressed spectra having similar event yields.

The left-right supersymmetric option at a high-energy upgrade of the LHC

We investigate the possibility that a minimal realization of left-right supersymmetry can be reachable at a high-energy upgrade of the LHC, expected to operate at a center-of-mass energy of 27 TeV. This minimal scenario has a relatively light $SU(2)_R$ doubly-charged Higgs boson, which could decay dominantly into tau-lepton pairs. We explore the associated signals comprised of at least three hadronically-decaying taus, or with at least two hadronic taus and one same-sign-same-flavor charged lepton pair. Our analysis shows that the former signature is challenging to use for getting handles on the signal due to the large corresponding background, and that the latter one can lead to a handful of new physics events in an almost background-free environment. We however find that a signal comprised of three hadronically-decaying tau leptons is likely to be observed at a low luminosity of proton-proton collisions at a 27 TeV upgrade of the LHC.

Identifying a Higgsino-like NLSP in the context of a keV-scale gravitino LSP

The presence of a Higgsino-like neutralino next-to-lightest sparticle (NLSP) and a keV scale gravitino ($\widetilde{G}$) LSP opens up new decay modes of the NLSP, mainly to a Higgs/$Z$ boson and the LSP. Besides, a keV-scale gravitino as a warm dark matter candidate salvages a relatively-light Higgsino-like NLSP from dark matter constraints. We focus on the prospects of observing at least one b jet and two opposite sign leptons with a large missing transverse momenta ($\geq 1 b$ $+$ $ \ell^+\ell^-+\not{\!\!E}_T$) signal at the LHC. A distinguishing feature of this scenario is the production of longitudinal $Z$ bosons in neutralino decays, unlike in the case of gauginolike neutralinos, where the $Z$ is mostly transverse. The polarisation information of the parent $Z$ boson gets reflected in the angular distributions of the decay leptons and in some other variables derived therefrom.

Charged Higgs Discovery Prospects

We study the discovery prospects of the charged Higgs boson in the context of multi Higgs models in certain BSM scenarios. We classify models into three categories based on the charged Higgs coupling properties: gaugophobic, fermiophobic, and chromophobic. In each case, we identify viable modes of discovery, and present LHC analysis for discovery. We find that extensions of the Standard Model in which the charged Higgs does not couple to colored particles offer the best possible avenues for discovery.

Doubly-charged Higgs Boson at Future Electron-Proton Collider

We explore the discovery prospect of the doubly-charged component of an $SU(2)_L$-triplet scalar at the future $e^- p$ collider FCC-eh, proposed to operate with an electron beam energy of 60 GeV and a proton beam energy of 50 TeV. We consider the associated production of the doubly-charged Higgs boson along with leptons and jet(s), and its subsequent prompt decay to same-sign lepton pair. This occurs for ${\cal O}(1)$ Yukawa coupling of the scalar triplet with charged leptons, which is expected for reasonably small vacuum expectation values of the neutral component of the triplet field that governs the neutrino mass generation in the type-II seesaw. We present our analysis for two different final states, $3l+\ge1j$ and an inclusive $\ge2l+\ge1j$ channel. Considering its decay to electrons only, we find that the doubly-charged Higgs with mass around a TeV could be observed at $3σ$ confidence level with $\mathcal{O}(200)\, \rm{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, while masses up to 2 TeV could be probed within a few years of data accumulation. The signal proposed here becomes essentially background-free, if it is triggered in the $μμ$ mode and a $5σ$ discovery is achievable in this channel for a TeV-scale doubly-charged Higgs with an integrated luminosity as low as $\mathcal{O} (50)\, \rm{fb}^{-1}$. We also highlight the sensitivity of FCC-eh to the Yukawa coupling responsible for production of the doubly-charged Higgs boson as a function of its mass in both the $ee$ and $μμ$ channels.

Non-standard signatures of vector-like quarks in a leptophobic 221 model

We consider vector-like quarks in a leptophobic 221 model characterized by the gauge group $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_2 \times U(1)_X$, where the $SU(2)_2$ is leptophobic in nature. We discuss about the pattern of mixing between Standard Model quarks and vector-like quarks and how we prevent tree level flavour-changing interactions in the model. The model also predicts tauphilic scalars decaying mostly to tau leptons. We consider a typical signal of the model in the form of pair production of top-type vector-like quarks which decays to the tauphilic scalars and a third generation quark. We analyze the resulting final state signal for the 13 TeV LHC, containing $\geq 3j(1b) \, + \geq 2τ\, + \geq 1l$ and discuss the discovery prospects of such vector-like quarks with non-standard decay modes.

Multileptonic signals of co-annihilating left-right supersymmetric dark matter

We perform a comprehensive dark matter analysis of left-right supersymmetric scenarios that includes constraints from dark matter direct and indirect detection experiments and that presents distinctive features from those available in minimal supersymmetry. We concentrate on dark matter candidates which, while satisfying all constraints, are different from those of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We consider in our analysis all possible co-annihilation channels relevant for setups in which several states are light and nearly degenerate, and devise a set of representative benchmark points, requiring co-annihilations, which satisfy all restrictions. We then study their consequent LHC signals, which exhibit promising new multileptonic signatures involving $W_R$, that if observed, would provide a strong support for left-right supersymmetry.

A Lepton-specific Universal Seesaw Model with Left-Right Symmetry

We propose a left-right symmetric framework with universal seesaw mechanism for the generation of masses of the Standard Model quarks and leptons. Heavy vector-like singlet quarks and leptons are required for generation of Standard Model-like quark and lepton masses through seesaw mechanism. A softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry distinguishes the lepton sector and the quark sector of the model. This leads to the presence of some lepton-specific interactions that can produce unique collider signatures which can be explored at the current Large Hadron Collider run and also future colliders.

Natural SUSY at LHC with Right-Sneutrino LSP

We study an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with additional right-handed singlet neutrino superfields. While such an extension incorporates a mechanism for the neutrino mass, it also opens up the possibility of having the right-sneutrinos ($\widetildeν$) as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). In this work, we focus on the the viability of rather small ($\lesssim 500$ GeV) higgsino mass parameter ($μ$), an important ingredient for "naturalness", in the presence of such a LSP. For simplicity, we assume that the bino and wino mass parameters are much heavier, thus we only consider (almost) pure and compressed higgsino-like states, with small $\mathcal{O}(10^{-2})$ gaugino admixture. Considering only prompt decays of the higgino-like states, especially the lightest chargino, we discuss the importance of leptonic channels consisting of up to two leptons with large missing transverse energy to probe this scenario at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Further, we emphasize on how the gaugino mass parameters, although very heavy, affects the decay of the low-lying higgsino-like states, thus significantly affecting the proposed signatures at LHC.

Reconstructing heavy Higgs boson masses in Type X Two-Higgs Doublet Model with a light pseudoscalar

We analyze the prospects of reconstructing the mass of a heavy charged Higgs boson %have been analyzed in the context of a Type X two-Higgs doublet model where a light pseudoscalar $A$ in the mass range $40-60$ GeV is phenomenologically allowed, and is in fact favoured if one wants to explain the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The associated production of charged Higgs with the pseudoscalar $A$ and subsequent decay of the charged Higgs into a $W$ and $A$, is found to be our relevant channel. The branching ratio for $H^+ \to W^+ A$ with $M_{H^+} \sim 200$ GeV, is close to 50\%. The hadronic decay of the $W$ boson, coupled with the leptonic decays of $A$ into a tau and muon pair, help in identifying the charged Higgs. The neutral heavy Higgs, being degenerate with the charged Higgs for most of the allowed parameter space of the model, also contributes to similar final states. Thus both of these particles are reconstructed within a band of about 10 GeV.

Implications of a vector-like lepton doublet and scalar Leptoquark on $R(D^{(*)})$

We study the phenomenological constraints and consequences in the flavor sector, of introducing a new fourth generation $\mathcal{Z}_{2}$ odd vector-like lepton doublet along with a Standard Model (SM) singlet scalar and an $SU(2)_{L}$ singlet scalar leptoquark carrying electromagnetic charge of $+2/3$, both odd under a $\mathcal{Z}_{2}$. We show that with little fine tuning among the various Yukawa couplings in the new physics (NP) Lagrangian along with the CKM parameters, the model is able to push the theoretical value of $R(D^{*})^{th}$ from $0.252 \pm 0.003$ to $0.263 \pm 0.051$ and $R(D)^{th}$ from $0.300 \pm 0.008$ to $0.313 \pm 0.158$ compared to the SM value. Especially the NP contributions are able to reduce the discrepancy between experiment and theory of $R(D^{*})$ substantially compared to SM. This is quite impressive given that the model satisfy all other very stringent constrains coming from neutral meson oscillations and precision $Z$-pole data.

Exploring collider aspects of a neutrinophilic Higgs doublet model in multilepton channels

We consider a neutrinophilic Higgs scenario where the Standard Model is extended by one additional Higgs doublet and three generations of singlet right-handed Majorana neutrinos. Light neutrino masses are generated through mixing with the heavy neutrinos via Type-I seesaw mechanism when the neutrinophilic Higgs gets a vacuum expectation value (VEV). The Dirac neutrino Yukawa coupling in this scenario can be sizable compared to those in the canonical Type-I seesaw mechanism owing to the small neutrinophilic Higgs VEV giving rise to interesting phenomenological consequences. We have explored various signal regions likely to provide a hint of such a scenario at the LHC as well as at future $e^+e^-$ colliders. We have also highlighted the consequences of light neutrino mass hierarchies in collider phenomenology that can complement the findings of neutrino oscillation experiments.
