High-energy Multi-messenger Emission from Galaxy Clusters in the Local Universe

The origin of diffuse neutrinos and $γ$-rays is unknown, and galaxy clusters hosting AGN and starburst galaxies are the most probable sources of these cosmic messengers. In this work, we investigate the diffuse $γ$-ray and neutrino emission from the Virgo, Perseus, and Coma clusters using a detailed numerical method, combining MHD simulations with Monte Carlo methods. The MHD simulation provides the distributions of temperature, gas, and magnetic field in clusters. The Monte Carlo simulations are used to investigate the cosmic-ray (CR) propagation in ICM and subsequently the secondaries stemming from CRs. Our primary assumption is that CR injection scales with the gas density of clusters, providing a physically motivated approximation. High-density regions in clusters are associated with strong turbulence and prominent shock structures, making them natural sites for efficient CR acceleration. Our predicted $γ$-ray flux from the individual clusters lies well below the present LHAASO upper limits. The MAGIC observations of the central source NGC $1275$ of the Perseus cluster are significantly higher than our results. Further, we estimated the cumulative $γ$-ray and neutrino fluxes from clusters with masses $\gtrsim 5\times 10^{13}, M_{\odot}$ in the local Universe (within $500$ Mpc). The diffuse $γ$-ray flux reported by the Fermi-LAT collaboration is significantly higher than our results. Our predictions are consistent with IceCube's existing upper limits on the unresolved neutrino flux from galaxy clusters ($M > 10^{14}, M_{\odot}$) up to $z = 2$.

High-energy Neutrino and Gamma Ray Emission from Clusters-like Perseus

We calculate the high-energy gamma-ray and neutrino emissions from galaxy clusters like Perseus that host active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Our primary objective is to distinguish the emission from the central source, such as NGC$1275$, from the diffuse emission originating in the outskirts of the Perseus cluster. Due to a unique magnetic-field configuration, CRs with energy $\leq 10^{17}$ eV can be confined within these structures over cosmological time scales, and generate secondary particles, including neutrinos and gamma-rays, through interactions with the background gas and photons. We employ three-dimensional cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulations of structure formation to model the turbulent intracluster medium (ICM). We propagate CRs in intracluster medium (ICM) and intergalactic medium using multi-dimensional Monte Carlo simulations, considering all relevant photohadronic, photonuclear, and hadronuclear interactions. We also include the cosmological evolution of sources like Perseus. By comparing our results with the existing upper limits from IceCube for galaxy clusters and the sensitivity of CTA, we predict that these observatories could potentially establish a new class of astrophysical sources capable of emitting high-energy multi-messenger signals. We also compute the contribution from clusters like Perseus to the diffuse neutrino and gamma-ray background.

Analyzing mob dynamics in social media networks using epidemiology model

Epidemiological models, traditionally used to study disease spread, can effectively analyze mob behavior on social media by treating ideas, sentiments, or behaviors as ``contagions" that propagate through user networks. In this research, we introduced a mathematical model to analyze social behavior related to COVID-19 spread by examining Twitter activity from April 2020 to June 2020. Our analysis focused on key terms such as ``lockdown" and ``quarantine" to track public sentiment and engagement trends during the pandemic. The threshold number $\Re_{0}$ is derived, and the stability of the steady states is established. Numerical simulations and sensitivity analysis of applicable parameters are carried out. The results show that negative sentiment on Twitter has less influence on COVID-19 spread compared to positive sentiment. However, the effect of negative sentiment on the spread of COVID-19 remains remarkably strong. Moreover, we use the Caputo operator with different parameter values to study the impact of social media platforms on the transmission of COVID-19 diseases.

Neutrinos and gamma-rays from Galaxy Clusters constrained by the upper limits of IceCube

Clusters of galaxies possess the capability to accelerate cosmic rays (CRs) to very high energy up to $\sim10^{18}$~eV due to their large size and magnetic field strength which favor CR confinement for cosmological times. During their confinement, they can produce neutrinos and $γ-$rays out of interactions with the background gas and photon fields. In recent work, \cite{hussain2021high, hussain2023diffuse} have conducted three-dimensional cosmological magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations of the turbulent intracluster medium (ICM) combined with multi-dimensional Monte Carlo simulations of CR propagation for redshifts ranging from $z \sim 5$ to $z = 0$ to study the multi-messenger emission from these sources. They found that when CRs with a spectral index in the range $1.5 - 2.5$ and cutoff energy $E_\mathrm{max} = 10^{16} - 10^{17}$~eV are injected into the system, they make significant contributions to the diffuse background emission of both neutrinos and gamma-rays. In this work, we have revisited this model and undertaken further constraints on the parametric space. This was achieved by incorporating the recently established upper limits on neutrino emission from galaxy clusters, as obtained by the IceCube experiment. We find that for CRs injected with spectral indices in the range $2.0 - 2.5$, cutoff energy $E_\mathrm{max} = 10^{16} - 10^{17}$~eV, and power corresponding to $(0.1-1)\%$ of the cluster luminosity, our neutrino flux aligns with the upper limits estimated by IceCube. Additionally, the resulting contribution from clusters to the diffuse $γ$-ray background (DGRB) remains significant with values of the order of $ \sim 10^{-5}\, \mathrm{MeV} \, \mathrm{cm}^{-2} \,\mathrm{s}^{-1} \, \mathrm{sr}^{-1}$ at energies above $500$ GeV.

High-Energy Neutrino and Gamma Ray Production in Clusters of Galaxies

We compute the contribution from clusters of galaxies to the diffuse neutrino and $γ-$ray background. Due to their unique magnetic-field configuration, cosmic rays (CRs) with energy $\leq10^{17}$ eV can be confined within these structures over cosmological time scales, and generate secondary particles, including neutrinos and $γ-$rays, through interactions with the background gas and photons. We employ three-dimensional (3D) cosmological magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations of structure formation to model the turbulent intergalactic and intracluster media. We propagate CRs in these environments using multi-dimensional Monte Carlo simulations across different redshifts (from $z \sim 5$ to $z = 0$), considering all relevant photohadronic, photonuclear, and hadronuclear interactions. We also include the cosmological evolution of the CR sources. We find that for CRs injected with a spectral index $1.5 - 2.7$ and cutoff energy $E_\text{max} = 10^{16} - 10^{17}$~eV, clusters contribute to a substantial fraction to the diffuse fluxes observed by the IceCube and Fermi-LAT, and most of the contribution comes from clusters with $M > 10^{14} \, M_{\odot}$ and redshift $z < 0.3$. We also estimated the multimessenger contributions from the local galaxy cluster.

The Diffuse Gamma-Ray Flux from Clusters of Galaxies

The origin of the diffuse gamma-ray background (DGRB), the one that remains after subtracting all individual sources from observed gamma-ray sky, is unknown. The DGRB possibly encompasses contributions from different source populations such as star-forming galaxies, starburst galaxies, active galactic nuclei, gamma-ray bursts, or galaxy clusters. Here, we combine cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulations of clusters of galaxies with the propagation of cosmic rays (CRs) using Monte Carlo simulations, in the redshift range $z\leq 5.0$, and show that the integrated gamma-ray flux from clusters can contribute up to $100\%$ of the DGRB flux observed by Fermi-LAT above $100$ GeV, for CRs spectral indices $α= 1.5 - 2.5$ and energy cutoffs $E_{\text{max}} = 10^{16} - 10^{17}$ eV. The flux is dominated by clusters with masses $10^{13} \lesssim M/M_{\odot} \lesssim 10^{15}$ and redshift $ z \lesssim 0.3$. Our results also predict the potential observation of high-energy gamma rays from clusters by experiments like the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC), the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), and potentially the upcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA).

Charged particle dynamics in the vicinity of black hole from vector-tensor theory of gravity immersed in an external magnetic field

The dynamics of charged particle in the vicinity of event horizon of a rotating charged black hole (BH) with gravitomagnetic charge from a class of vector-tensor theories of modified gravity immersed in an axially symmetric magnetic field (Bfield) has been studied. The presence of Bfield reduces the radii of innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of charged particle and the opposite phenomenon occurs due the parameter $β$ which describes the deviation of modified gravity considered here from the usual Einstein - Maxwell gravity also acts to increase the radius of ISCO. Angular momentum also plays the role regarding the motion of particle which implies that larger the angular momentum easier for a particle to escape. We study the stability of orbits using Lyapunov characteristic exponent which implies more stability in the presence of Bfield. Generally, in the presence of Bfield it is easier for a particle to escape than its absence. We find twist in the trajectories of charged particles close to event horizon due to spin of BH in the presence of Bfield and there is no twist in the absence of it. Finally, we comment on possible utilization of our findings for the relativistic jets and magnetohydrodynamical out flows.

Charged particle dynamics in the surrounding of Schwarzschild anti-de Sitter black hole with topological defect immersed in an external magnetic field

In this paper, geodesic motion of the charged particles in the vicinity of event horizon of Schwarzschild anti-de-Sitter black hole (BH) with topological defects has been investigated. Weakly magnetized environment is considered in the surrounding of BH which only effects the motion of the particles and doesn't effect the geometry of the BH. Hence, particles are under the influence of gravity and electromagnetic forces. We have explored the effect of magnetic field on the trajectories of the particles and more importantly on the position of the innermost stable circular orbit. It is observed that the trajectories of the particles in the surrounding of BH are chaotic. Escape conditions of the particles under the influence of gravitomagnetic force are also discussed. Moreover, the escape velocity of particles and its different features have been investigated in the presence and absence of magnetic field. Effect of dark energy on the size of event horizon, mass of the BH and stability of the orbits of the particles have also been explored in detail. These studies can be used to estimate the power of relativistic jets originated from the vicinity of BH.

If we include the cosmological evolution of the CR sources, this flux can be even higher.

Particle Dynamics Around Weakly Magnetized Reissner-Nordström Black Hole

Considering the geometry of Reissner-Nordström (RN) black hole immersed in magnetic field we have studied the dynamics of neutral and charged particles. A collision of particles in the inner stable circular orbit is considered and the conditions for the escape of colliding particles from the vicinity of black hole are given. The trajectories of the escaping particle are discussed. Also the velocity required for this escape is calculated. It is observed that there are more than one stable regions if magnetic field is present in the accretion disk of black hole so the stability of ISCO increases in the presence of magnetic field. Effect of magnetic field on the angular motion of neutral and charged particles is observed graphically.

Strong Gravitational Lensing by Kiselev Black Hole

We investigate the gravitational lensing scenario due to Schwarzschild-like black hole surrounded by quintessence (Kiselev black hole). We work for the special case of Kiselev black hole where we take the state parameter $w_{q}=-\frac{2}{3}$. For the detailed derivation and analysis of the bending angle involved in the deflection of light, we discuss three special cases of Kiselev black hole: non-extreme, extreme and naked singularity. We also calculate the approximate bending angle and compare it with exact bending angle. We found the relation of bending angles in the decreasing order as: naked singularity, extreme Kiselev black hole, non-extreme Kiselev black hole and Schwarzschild black hole. In the weak field approximation, we compute the position and total magnification of relativistic images as well.

Timelike geodesics of a modified gravity black hole immersed in an axially symmetric magnetic field

We investigate the dynamics of a neutral and a charged particle around a black hole in modified gravity immersed in magnetic field. Our focus is on the scalar-tensor-vector theory as modified gravity. We are interested to explore the conditions on the energy of the particle under which it can escape to infinity after collision with another neutral particle in the vicinity of the black hole. We calculate escape velocity of particle orbiting in the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) after the collision. We study the effects of modified gravity on the dynamics of particles. Further we discuss how the presence of magnetic field in the vicinity of black hole, effects the motion of the orbiting particle. We show that the stability of ISCO increases due to presence of magnetic field. It is observed that a particle can go arbitrary close to the black hole due to presence of magnetic field. Furthermore ISCO for black hole is more stable as compared with Schwarzschild black hole. We also discuss the Lyapunov exponent and the effective force acting on the particle in the presence of magnetic field.

Dynamics of Particles Around a Schwarzschild-like Black Hole in the Presence of Quintessence and Magnetic Field

We investigate the dynamics of a neutral and a charged particle around a static and spherically symmetric black hole in the presence of quintessence matter and external magnetic field. We explore the conditions under which the particle moving around the black hole could escape to infinity after colliding with another particle. The innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for the particles are studied in detail. Mainly the dependence of ISCO on dark energy and on the presence of external magnetic field in the vicinity of black hole is discussed. By using the Lyapunov exponent, we compare the stabilities of the orbits of the particles in the presence and absence of dark energy and magnetic field. The expressions for the center of mass energies of the colliding particles near the horizon of the black hole are derived. The effective force on the particles due to dark energy and magnetic field in the vicinity of black hole is also discussed.

Dynamics of a Charged Particle Around a Slowly Rotating Kerr Black Hole Immersed in Magnetic Field

The dynamics of a charged particle moving around a slowly rotating Kerr black hole in the presence of an external magnetic field is investigated. We are interested to explore the conditions under which the charged particle can escape from the gravitational field of the black hole after colliding with another particle. The escape velocity of the charged particle in the innermost stable circular orbit is calculated. The effective potential and escape velocity of the charged particle with angular momentum in the presence of magnetic field is analyzed. This work serves as an extension of a preceding paper dealing with the Schwarzschild black hole [Zahrani {\it et al}, Phys. Rev. D 87, 084043 (2013)].
