Modelling the passive and active response of skeletal muscles within the adapted Voigt representation framework

We present a constitutive model for the passive and active response of skeletal muscles. At variance with more classical approaches, the model is developed exploiting adapted Voigt representations of strain and stress tensors within the context of nonlinear Cauchy elasticity. This framework allows us to identify non-trivial stress-strain relations in a rather direct way from experimental data, enhancing the mechanical interpretability of the material functions that describe the tissue response and obtaining additional insight on the distinct role of the contractile fibres and of the surrounding extracellular matrix. We propose a two-material model, with an additive splitting of the stress contributions, in which only one component depends on an activation parameter. The constitutive model for the passive behaviour satisfactorily predicts the nonlinear stress response to elongation at different relative orientations with respect to the fibre direction and highlights the dominant role of the extracellular matrix. The activation model, essentially determined by the mechanics of the contractile fibres, captures well the isometric stress response through the prescription of an elasto-plastic evolution of the along-fibre active strain.

Resistivity in Co-doped Ba-122: comparison of thin films and single crystals

The temperature dependence of the resistivity of epitaxial Ba(Fe_(1-x)Co_x)2As2 thin films (with nominal doping x = 0.08, 0.10 and 0.15) has been analyzed and compared with analogous measurements on single crystals taken from literature. The rho(T) of thin films looks different from that of single crystals, even when the cobalt content is the same. All rho(T) curves can be fitted by considering an effective two-band model (with holes and electrons bands) in which the electrons are more strongly coupled with the bosons (spin fluctuations) than holes, while the effect of impurities is mainly concentrated in the hole band. Within this model the mediating boson has the same characteristic energy in single crystals and thin films, but the shape of the transport spectral function at low energy has to be very different, leading to a "hardening" of the electron-boson spectral function in thin films, associated with the strain induced by the substrate.

A phenomenological multiband Eliashberg model for LiFeAs

The phenomenology of LiFeAs superconductor can be explained in the framework of a four-band s$\pm$-wave Eliashberg theory. We have examined the experimental data available in literature and we have found out that it is possible to reproduce the experimental critical temperature, the gap values and the upper critical magnetic field within an effective model in moderate strong-coupling regime that must include both an intraband term $λ_{11}\sim0.9$ and an interband spin-fluctuations ($λ_{tot}^{sf}\sim1.5$) coupling. The presence of a non negligible intraband coupling can be a fictitious effect of the violation of Migdal's Theorem.

Normal and superconducting properties of LiFeAs explained in the framework of four-band Eliashberg Theory

In this paper we propose a model to reproduce superconductive and normal properties of the iron pnictide LiFeAs in the framework of the four-band spm wave Eliashberg theory. A confirmation of the multiband nature of the system rises from the experimental measurements of the superconductive gaps and resistivity as function of temperature. We found that the most plausible mechanism is the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation and the estimated values of the total antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation coupling constant in the superconductive and normal state are lambda{tot}=2.00 and lambda{tot,tr}=0.77.
