An infinite family of superintegrable Hamiltonians with reflection in the plane

We introduce a new infinite class of superintegrable quantum systems in the plane. Their Hamiltonians involve reflection operators. The associated Schrödinger equations admit separation of variables in polar coordinates and are exactly solvable. The angular part of the wave function is expressed in terms of little -1 Jacobi polynomials. The spectra exhibit "accidental" degeneracies. The superintegrability of the model is proved using the recurrence relation approach. The (higher-order) constants of motion are constructed and the structure equations of the symmetry algebra obtained.

Two-Variable Wilson Polynomials and the Generic Superintegrable System on the 3-Sphere

We show that the symmetry operators for the quantum superintegrable system on the 3-sphere with generic 4-parameter potential form a closed quadratic algebra with 6 linearly independent generators that closes at order 6 (as differential operators). Further there is an algebraic relation at order 8 expressing the fact that there are only 5 algebraically independent generators. We work out the details of modeling physically relevant irreducible representations of the quadratic algebra in terms of divided difference operators in two variables. We determine several ON bases for this model including spherical and cylindrical bases. These bases are expressed in terms of two variable Wilson and Racah polynomials with arbitrary parameters, as defined by Tratnik. The generators for the quadratic algebra are expressed in terms of recurrence operators for the one-variable Wilson polynomials. The quadratic algebra structure breaks the degeneracy of the space of these polynomials. In an earlier paper the authors found a similar characterization of one variable Wilson and Racah polynomials in terms of irreducible representations of the quadratic algebra for the quantum superintegrable system on the 2-sphere with generic 3-parameter potential. This indicates a general relationship between 2nd order superintegrable systems and discrete orthogonal polynomials.

Models of Quadratic Algebras Generated by Superintegrable Systems in 2D

In this paper, we consider operator realizations of quadratic algebras generated by second-order superintegrable systems in 2D. At least one such realization is given for each set of Stäckel equivalent systems for both degenerate and nondegenerate systems. In almost all cases, the models can be used to determine the quantization of energy and eigenvalues for integrals associated with separation of variables in the original system.

A nonseparable quantum superintegrable system in 2D real Euclidean space

In this paper, we derive a nonseparable quantum superintegrable system in 2D real Euclidean space. The Hamiltonian admits no second order integrals of motion but does admit one third and one fourth order integral. We also obtain a classical superintegrable system with the same properties. The quantum system differs from the classical one by corrections proportional to $\hbar^2.$

Structure Theory for Second Order 2D Superintegrable Systems with 1-Parameter Potentials

The structure theory for the quadratic algebra generated by first and second order constants of the motion for 2D second order superintegrable systems with nondegenerate (3-parameter) and or 2-parameter potentials is well understood, but the results for the strictly 1-parameter case have been incomplete. Here we work out this structure theory and prove that the quadratic algebra generated by first and second order constants of the motion for systems with 4 second order constants of the motion must close at order three with the functional relationship between the 4 generators of order four. We also show that every 1-parameter superintegrable system is Stäckel equivalent to a system on a constant curvature space.

Models for Quadratic Algebras Associated with Second Order Superintegrable Systems in 2D

There are 13 equivalence classes of 2D second order quantum and classical superintegrable systems with nontrivial potential, each associated with a quadratic algebra of hidden symmetries. We study the finite and infinite irreducible representations of the quantum quadratic algebras though the construction of models in which the symmetries act on spaces of functions of a single complex variable via either differential operators or difference operators. In another paper we have already carried out parts of this analysis for the generic nondegenerate superintegrable system on the complex 2-sphere. Here we carry it out for a degenerate superintegrable system on the 2-sphere. We point out the connection between our results and a position dependent mass Hamiltonian studied by Quesne. We also show how to derive simple models of the classical quadratic algebras for superintegrable systems and then obtain the quantum models from the classical models, even though the classical and quantum quadratic algebras are distinct.
