A Simple Derivation of Finite-Temperature CFT Correlators from the BTZ Black Hole

We present a simple Lie-algebraic approach to momentum-space two-point functions of two-dimensional conformal field theory at finite temperature dual to the BTZ black hole. Making use of the real-time prescription of AdS/CFT correspondence and ladder equations of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{so}(2,2) \cong \mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})_{L} \oplus \mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})_{R}$, we show that the finite-temperature two-point functions in momentum space satisfy linear recurrence relations with respect to the left and right momenta. These recurrence relations are exactly solvable and completely determine the momentum-dependence of retarded and advanced two-point functions of finite-temperature conformal field theory.

Recurrence Relations for Finite-Temperature Correlators via AdS$_{2}$/CFT$_{1}$

This note is aimed at presenting a new algebraic approach to momentum-space correlators in conformal field theory. As an illustration we present a new Lie-algebraic method to compute frequency-space two-point functions for charged scalar operators of CFT$_{1}$ dual to AdS$_{2}$ black hole with constant background electric field. Our method is based on the real-time prescription of AdS/CFT correspondence, Euclideanization of AdS$_{2}$ black hole and projective unitary representations of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R}) \oplus \mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})$. We derive novel recurrence relations for Euclidean CFT$_{1}$ two-point functions, which are exactly solvable and completely determine the frequency- and charge-dependences of two-point functions. Wick-rotating back to Lorentzian signature, we obtain retarded and advanced CFT$_{1}$ two-point functions that are consistent with the known results.

Parasupersymmetry in Quantum Graphs

We study hidden parasupersymmetry structures in purely bosonic quantum mechanics on compact equilateral graphs. We consider a single free spinless particle on the graphs and show that the Huang-Su parasupersymmetry algebra is hidden behind degenerate spectra.

Running Boundary Condition

In this paper we argue that boundary condition may run with energy scale. As an illustrative example, we consider one-dimensional quantum mechanics for a spinless particle that freely propagates in the bulk yet interacts only at the origin. In this setting we find the renormalization group flow of U(2) family of boundary conditions exactly. We show that the well-known scale-independent subfamily of boundary conditions are realized as fixed points. We also discuss the duality between two distinct boundary conditions from the renormalization group point of view. Generalizations to conformal mechanics and quantum graph are also discussed.

Path Integral Junctions

We propose path integral description for quantum mechanical systems on compact graphs consisting of N segments of the same length. Provided the bulk Hamiltonian is segment-independent, scale-invariant boundary conditions given by self-adjoint extension of a Hamiltonian operator turn out to be in one-to-one correspondence with N \times N matrix-valued weight factors on the path integral side. We show that these weight factors are given by N-dimensional unitary representations of the infinite dihedral group.

Path Integral on Star Graph

In this paper we study path integral for a single spinless particle on a star graph with N edges, whose vertex is known to be described by U(N) family of boundary conditions. After carefully studying the free particle case, both at the critical and off-critical levels, we propose a new path integral formulation that correctly captures all the scale-invariant subfamily of boundary conditions realized at fixed points of boundary renormalization group flow. Our proposal is based on the folding trick, which maps a scalar-valued wave function on star graph to an N-component vector-valued wave function on half-line. All the parameters of scale-invariant subfamily of boundary conditions are encoded into the momentum independent weight factors, which appear to be associated with the two distinct path classes on half-line that form the cyclic group Z_2. We show that, when bulk interactions are edge-independent, these weight factors are generally given by an N-dimensional unitary representation of Z_2. Generalization to momentum dependent weight factors and applications to worldline formalism are briefly discussed.

SUSY QM Meets 5d Gravity

We report hidden quantum mechanical supersymmetry structure in five-dimensional gravity with the Randall-Sundrum background. We show that two N=2 supersymmetries are hidden in the spectrum.

Phase Structure of Gauge Theories on an Interval

We discuss gauge symmetry breaking in a general framework of gauge theories on an interval. We first derive a possible set of boundary conditions for a scalar field, which are compatible with several consistency requirements. It is shown that with these boundary conditions the scalar field can acquire a nontrivial vacuum expectation value even if the scalar mass square is positive. Any nonvanishing vacuum expectation value cannot be a constant but, in general, depends on the extra dimensional coordinate of the interval. The phase diagram of broken/unbroken gauge symmetry possesses a rich structure in the parameter space of the length of the interval, the scalar mass and the boundary conditions. We also discuss 4d chiral fermions and fermion mass hierarchies in our gauge symmetry breaking scenario.

Emergent Supersymmetry in Warped Backgrounds

We show that quantum mechanical supersymmetries are emerged in Kaluza-Klein spectrum of linearized gravity in several warped backgrounds as a consequence of higher-dimensional general coordinate invariance. These emergent supersymmetries play an essential role for the spectral structure of braneworld gravity. We show that for the case of braneworld models with two codimension-1 branes the spectral pattern is completely determined only through the supersymmetries.

Particle Propagation on a Circle with a Point Interaction

We study a particle propagation on a circle in the presence of a point interaction. We show that the one-particle Feynman kernel can be written into the sum of reflected and transmitted trajectories which are weighted by the elements of the n-th power of the scattering matrix evaluated on a line with a point interaction. As a by-product we find three-parameter family of trace formulae as a generalization of the Poisson summation formula.

Hierarchy of QM SUSYs on a Bounded Domain

We systematically formulate a hierarchy of isospectral Hamiltonians in one-dimensional supersymmetric quantum mechanics on an interval and on a circle, in which two successive Hamiltonians form N=2 supersymmetry. We find that boundary conditions compatible with supersymmetry are severely restricted. In the case of an interval, a hierarchy of, at most, three isospectral Hamiltonians is possible with unique boundary conditions, while in the case of a circle an infinite tower of isospectral Hamiltonians can be constructed with two-parameter family of boundary conditions.

Gauge-Fixing and Residual Symmetries in Gauge/Gravity Theories with Extra Dimensions

We study compactified pure gauge/gravitational theories with gauge-fixing terms and show that these theories possess quantum mechanical SUSY-like symmetries between unphysical degrees of freedom. These residual symmetries are global symmetries and generated by quantum mechanical N=2 supercharges. Also, we establish new one-parameter family of gauge choices for higher-dimensional gravity, and calculate as a check of its validity one graviton exchange amplitude in the lowest tree-level approximation. We confirm that the result is indeed $ξ$-independent and the cancellation of the $ξ$-dependence is ensured by the residual symmetries. We also give a simple interpretation of the vDVZ-discontinuity, which arises in the lowest tree-level approximation, from the supersymmetric point of view.

Supersymmetry in 5d Gravity

We study a 5d gravity theory with a warped metric and show that two N = 2 supersymmetric quantum-mechanical systems are hidden in the 4d spectrum. The supersymmetry can be regarded as a remnant of higher-dimensional general coordinate invariance and turns out to become a powerful tool to determine the physical 4d spectrum and the allowed boundary conditions. Possible extensions of the N = 2 supersymmetry are briefly discussed.
