Discovery Potential for Low-Scale Gauge Mediation at Early LHC

Low-scale gauge-mediated supersymmetry(SUSY)-breaking (GMSB) models with gravitino mass m_{3/2}<16 eV are attractive, since there are no flavor and cosmological problems. In this paper, we thoroughly study the collider signal in the case that the next-to-lightest SUSY particle is the bino or slepton and investigate the discovery potential of the LHC. Our result is applicable to a wider class of GMSB models other than the minimal GMSB models and we pay particular attention to realistic experimental setups. We also apply our analysis to the minimal GMSB models with a metastable SUSY-breaking vacuum and we show, by requiring sufficient stability of the SUSY-breaking vacuum, these models can be tested at an early stage of the LHC.

Split Generation in the SUSY Mass Spectrum and B_s-{\bar B}_s Mixing

We show that the like-sign di-muon anomaly reported recently by the D0 Collaboration can be explained in the supersymmetric standard model (SM) if the squarks and the sleptons in the first two generations have relatively small, but degenerate mass spectrum, and those in the third generation are larger as O(1-10)TeV. This split generation model provides large contributions to the B_s-{\bar B}_s mixing, although most of the FCNC's are suppressed due to the large masses of the third generation squarks or the GIM mechanism partially acting on the first and second generations.

Primordial Black Hole as a Source of the Boost Factor

Primordial black holes (PBHs) accumulate weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) around them and form ultracompact minihalos (UCMHs), if the WIMP is a dominant component of the dark matter (DM). In this paper, we discuss that the UCMHs seeded by the PBHs with sub-earth mass enhance the WIMP annihilation in the present Universe and can successfully explain the positron and/or electron excess in cosmic ray observed by PAMELA/Fermi experiments. The signal is very similar to that from a decaying dark matter, which can explain the PAMELA and/or Fermi anomaly without conflict with any constraints as long as the decay mode is proper. In this scenario, the boost factor can be as large as 10^5. In addition, we discuss testability of our scenario by gamma-ray point source and gravitational-wave experiments.

LHC Reach of Low Scale Gauge Mediation with Perturbatively Stable Vacuum

Very light gravitino scenario m_{3/2} < 16 eV is very interesting, since there is no cosmological problem. However in such a scenario, stability of the vacuum is an important issue. Recently, Yonekura and one of the authors RS have investigated the parameter space of a low scale gauge mediation with a perturbatively stable vacuum and found that there are severe upper bound on the gaugino masses. In this paper, we show that such a model can be completely excluded/discovered at very early stage of the LHC run.

Aspects of Non-minimal Gauge Mediation

A large class of non-minimal gauge mediation models, such as (semi-)direct gauge mediation, predict a hierarchy between the masses of the supersymmetric standard model gauginos and those of scalar particles. We perform a comprehensive study of these non-minimal gauge mediation models, including mass calculations in semi-direct gauge mediation, to illustrate these features, and discuss the phenomenology of the models. We point out that the cosmological gravitino problem places stringent constraints on mass splittings, when the Bino is the NLSP. However, the GUT relation of the gaugino masses is broken unlike the case of minimal gauge mediation, and an NLSP other than the Bino (especially the gluino NLSP) becomes possible, relaxing the cosmological constraints. We also discuss the collider signals of the models.

Phenomenological Aspects of Gauge Mediation with Sequestered Supersymmetry Breaking in light of Dark Matter Detection

In a recent work, a model of gauge mediation with sequestered supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking was proposed. In this model, the mass of the gravitino is O(100) GeV without causing the flavor-changing neutral-current problem. In contrast to traditional gauge mediation, the gravitino is not the lightest SUSY particle and the neutralino is the candidate of the dark matter. In this paper, we investigate phenomenological aspects of this model and discuss the possibility of the direct detection of the dark matter. In particular, we focus on the light neutralino case and find that the light-Higgsino scenario such as the focus point is interesting, taking account of the recent CDMS result.

Low-Scale Gauge Mediation and Composite Messenger Dark Matter

In recent works, we have proposed a possible dark matter in composite messenger gauge mediation models. In this paper, we discuss the details of a composite messenger model taking a possible supersymmetry breaking scenario and show that the correct dark matter abundance and a successful gauge mediation can be realized.

Measuring lifetimes of long-lived charged massive particles stopped in LHC detectors

Long-lived charged massive particles (CHAMPs) appear in various particle physics models beyond the Standard Model. In this Letter, we discuss the prospects for studying the stopping and decaying events of such long-lived CHAMPs at the LHC detectors, and show that the lifetime measurement (and the study of decay products) is possible with the LHC detectors for a wide range of the lifetime O(0.1)-O(10^{10}) sec, by using periods of no $pp$ collision. Even a short lifetime of order one second can be measured by (i) identifying the stopping event with the online Event Filter, (ii) immediately making a beam-dump signal which stops the $pp$ collision of the LHC, and at the same time (iii) changing the trigger menu to optimize it for the detection of a CHAMP decay in the calorimeter. Other possibilities are also discussed.

Cosmic Ray Spectra in Nambu-Goldstone Dark Matter Models

We discuss the cosmic ray spectra in annihilating/decaying Nambu-Goldstone dark matter models. The recent observed positron/electron excesses at PAMELA and Fermi experiments are well fitted by the dark matter with a mass of 3TeV for the annihilating model, while with a mass of 6 TeV for the decaying model. We also show that the Nambu-Goldstone dark matter models predict a distinctive gamma-ray spectrum in a certain parameter space.

A Test for Light Gravitino Scenario at the LHC

Supersymmetric (SUSY) standard models in which the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) is an ultralight gravitino (m_{3/2}=O(1) eV) are very attractive, since they are free from the cosmological gravitino problems. If the neutralino is the next lightest SUSY particle (NLSP), it decays into a photon and the gravitino in collider experiments. We propose a simple test for the lightness of gravitino at the LHC.

Cosmic-ray Electron and Positron Excesses from Hidden Gaugino Dark Matter

We study a scenario that a hidden gaugino dark matter decays into the standard-model particles (and their supersymmetric partners) through a kinetic mixing with the gaugino of a U(1)B-L broken at a scale close to the grand unification scale. We show that decay of the hidden gaugino can explain excesses in the cosmic-ray electrons and positrons observed by PAMELA and Fermi.

R-violating Decay of Wino Dark Matter and electron/positron Excesses in the PAMELA/Fermi Experiments

We show that R-parity violating decay of Wino dark matter of mass \sim 3 TeV can naturally account for the flux and spectral shape of the cosmic-ray electrons and positrons observed by the PAMELA and Fermi satellites. To provide a theoretical basis for the scenario, we also present a model that trilinear R-parity breaking appears with a coefficient suppressed by powers of the gravitino mass, which naturally leads to the Wino lifetime of O(10^26) sec.

Decaying Hidden Gaugino as a Source of PAMELA/ATIC Anomalies

We study a scenario that a U(1) hidden gaugino constitutes the dark matter in the Universe and decays into a lepton and slepton pair through a mixing with a U(1)B-L gaugino. We find that the dark-matter decay can account for the recent PAMELA and ATIC anomalies in the cosmic-ray positrons and electrons without an overproduction of antiprotons.

Cosmic Ray Positron and Electron Excess from Hidden-Fermion Dark Matter Decays

The anomalies observed in recent cosmic ray experiments seem to strongly constrain the nature of the dark matter. In this letter, we investigate a possibility of the fermionic dark matter with a minimal extension of the standard model. We found that the dark matter decays caused by the dimension six operators can naturally explain the anomalies.

Decaying Dark Matter Baryons in a Composite Messenger Model

A baryonic bound state with a mass of O(100) TeV, which is composed of strongly interacting messenger quarks in the low scale gauge mediation, can naturally be the cold dark matter. Interestingly, we find that such a baryonic dark matter is generically metastable, and the decay of this dark matter can naturally explain the anomalous positron flux recently observed by the PAMELA collaboration.

Gauge Mediation with Sequestered Supersymmetry Breaking

Gauge mediation models have two drawbacks, that is, the so-called μ-problem and a lack of predictability of the gravitino dark matter abundance. We show that conformal sequestering in the supersymmetry breaking sector offers attractive solutions to both problems. The correct mass scale of the μand B_μterms is generated by taking the gravitino mass of O(100) GeV without causing the flavor-changing neutral-current problem. Moreover, a large anomalous dimension of the supersymmetry breaking field naturally realizes the small stau and neutralino mass difference required for the coannihilation to work yielding the right dark matter abundance.

Mass Measurement of the Decaying Bino at the LHC

In some class of supersymmetric (SUSY) models, the neutral Wino becomes the lightest superparticle and the Bino decays into the Wino and standard-model particles. In such models, we show that the measurement of the Bino mass is possible if the short charged tracks (with the length of O(10 cm)) can be identified as a signal of the charged-Wino production. We pay particular attention to the anomaly-mediated SUSY-breaking (AMSB) model with a generic form of Kähler potential, in which only the gauginos are kinematically accessible superparticles to the LHC, and discuss the implication of the Bino mass measurement for the test of the AMSB model.

Strongly Interacting Gauge Mediation at the LHC

Strongly interacting gauge mediation (SIGM) of supersymmetry breaking is very attractive, since it naturally predicts a light gravitino of mass $\lsim{\cal O}(10)$ eV, which causes no cosmological problem. We discuss various signatures of the SIGM in the early stage (a low integrated luminosity period) of the LHC experiments. We show, in particular, a possible way to discriminate it from the conventional gauge mediation by counting the number of high $P_{\rm T}$ leptons.
