Metric Algebroid and Poisson-Lie T-duality in DFT

In this article we investigate the gauge invariance and duality properties of DFT based on a metric algebroid formulation given previously in [1]. The derivation of the general action given in this paper does not employ the section condition. Instead, the action is determined by requiring a pre-Bianchi identity on the structure functions of the metric algebroid and also for the dilaton flux. The pre-Bianchi identity is also a sufficient condition for a generalized Lichnerowicz formula to hold. The reduction to the D-dimensional space is achieved by a dimensional reduction of the fluctuations. The result contains the theory on the group manifold, or the theory extending to the GSE, depending on the chosen background. As an explicit example we apply our formulation to the Poisson-Lie T-duality in the effective theory on a group manifold. It is formulated as a 2D-dimensional diffeomorphism including the fluctuations.

Metric algebroid and Dirac generating operator in Double Field Theory

We give a formulation of Double Field Theory (DFT) based on a metric algebroid. We derive a covariant completion of the Bianchi identities, i.e. the pre-Bianchi identity in torsion and an improved generalized curvature, and the pre-Bianchi identity including the dilaton contribution. The derived bracket formulation by the Dirac generating operator is applied to the metric algebroid. We propose a generalized Lichnerowicz formula and show that it is equivalent to the pre-Bianchi identities. The dilaton in this setting is included as an ambiguity in the divergence. The projected generalized Lichnerowicz formula gives a new formulation of the DFT action. The closure of the generalized Lie derivative on the spin bundle yields the Bianchi identities as a consistency condition. A relation to the generalized supergravity equations (GSE) is discussed.

DFT in supermanifold formulation and group manifold as background geometry

We develop the formulation of DFT on pre-QP-manifold. The consistency conditions like section condition and closure constraint are unified by a weak master equation. The Bianchi identities are also characterized by the pre-Bianchi identity. Then, the background metric and connections are formulated by using covariantized pre-QP-manifold. An application to the analysis of the DFT on group manifold is given.

Contravariant geometry and emergent gravity from noncommutative gauge theories

We investigate a relation of the contravariant geometry to the emergent gravity from noncommutative gauge theories. We give a refined formulation of the contravariant gravity and provide solutions to the contravariant Einstein equation. We linearize the equation around background solutions, including curved ones. A noncommutative gauge theory on the Moyal plane can be rewritten as an ordinary gauge theory on a curved background via the Seiberg-Witten map, which is known as the emergent gravity. We show that this phenomenon also occurs for a gauge theory on a noncommutative homogeneous Kähler background. We argue that the resulting geometry can be naturally described by the contravariant geometry under an identification of the fluctuation of the Poisson tensor with the field strength obtained by the Seiberg-Witten map. These results indicate that the contravariant gravity is a suitable framework for noncommutative spacetime physics.

Contravariant Gravity on Poisson Manifolds and Einstein Gravity

A relation between gravity on Poisson manifolds proposed in arXiv:1508.05706 and Einstein gravity is investigated. The compatibility of the Poisson and Riemann structures defines a unique connection, the contravariant Levi-Civita connection, and leads to the idea of the contravariant gravity. The Einstein-Hilbert-type action yields an equation of motion which is written in terms of the analog of the Einstein tensor, and it includes couplings between the metric and the Poisson tensor. The study of the Weyl transformation reveals properties of those interactions. It is argued that this theory can have an equivalent description as a system of Einstein gravity coupled to matter. As an example, it is shown that the contravariant gravity on a two-dimensional Poisson manifold can be described by a real scalar field coupled to the metric in a specific manner.

Courant algebroids from double field theory in supergeometry

We provide a short review of Courant algebroids and graded symplectic manifolds and show how different Courant algebroids emerge from double field theory. Fluxes of double field theory and their Bianchi identities are formulated by using pre-QP-manifolds. We stress the relation of the Poisson Courant algebroid with R-flux as a solution of the double field theory section condition.

Off-Shell Covariantization of Algebroid Gauge Theories

We present a generalized method to construct field strengths and gauge symmetries, which yield a Yang-Mills type action with Lie n-algebroid gauge symmetry. The procedure makes use of off-shell covariantization in a supergeometric setting. We apply this method to the system of a 1-form gauge field and scalar fields with Lie n-algebroid gauge symmetry. We work out some characteristic examples.

Unified picture of non-geometric fluxes and T-duality in double field theory via graded symplectic manifolds

We give a systematic derivation of the local expressions of the NS H-flux, geometric F- as well as non-geometric Q- and R-fluxes in terms of bivector beta- and two-form B-potentials including vielbeins. They are obtained using a supergeometric method on QP-manifolds by twist of the standard Courant algebroid on the generalized tangent space without flux. Bianchi identities of the fluxes are easily deduced. We extend the discussion to the case of the double space and present a formulation of T-duality in terms of canonical transformations between graded symplectic manifolds. Finally, the construction is compared to the formerly introduced Poisson Courant algebroid, a Courant algebroid on a Poisson manifold, as a model for R-flux.

Topological Membranes, Current Algebras and H-flux - R-flux Duality based on Courant Algebroids

We construct a topological sigma model and a current algebra based on a Courant algebroid structure on a Poisson manifold. In order to construct models, we reformulate the Poisson Courant algebroid by supergeometric construction on a QP-manifold. A new duality of Courant algebroids which transforms H-flux and R-flux is proposed, where the transformation is interpreted as a canonical transformation of a graded symplectic manifold.

Higher Gauge Theories from Lie n-algebras and Off-Shell Covariantization

We analyze higher gauge theories in various dimensions using a supergeometric method based on a differential graded symplectic manifold, called a QP-manifold, which is closely related to the BRST-BV formalism in gauge theories. Extensions of the Lie 2-algebra gauge structure are formulated within the Lie n-algebra induced by the QP-structure. We find that in 5 and 6 dimensions there are special extensions of the gauge algebra. In these cases, a restriction of the gauge symmetry by imposing constraints on the auxiliary gauge fields leads to a covariantized theory. As an example we show that we can obtain an off-shell covariantized higher gauge theory in 5 dimensions, which is similar to the one proposed in [1] (arxiv:1206.5643).

Gravity theory on Poisson manifold with $R$-flux

A novel gravity theory based on Poisson Generalized Geometry is investigated. A gravity theory on a Poisson manifold equipped with a Riemannian metric is constructed from a contravariant version of the Levi-Civita connection, which is based on the Lie algebroid of a Poisson manifold. Then, we show that in Poisson Generalized Geometry the $R$-fluxes are consistently coupled with such a gravity. An $R$-flux appears as a torsion of the corresponding connection in a similar way as an $H$-flux which appears as a torsion of the connection for- mulated in the standard Generalized Geometry. We give an analogue of the Einstein-Hilbert action coupled with an $R$-flux, and show that it is invariant under both $β$-diffeomorphisms and $β$-gauge transformations.

D-branes in Generalized Geometry and Dirac-Born-Infeld Action

The purpose of this paper is to formulate the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action in a framework of generalized geometry and clarify its symmetry. A D-brane is defined as a Dirac structure where scalar fields and gauge field are treated on an equal footing in a static gauge. We derive generalized Lie derivatives corresponding to the diffeomorphism and B-field gauge transformations and show that the DBI action is invariant under non-linearly realized symmetries for all types of diffeomorphisms and B-field gauge transformations. Consequently, we can interpret not only the scalar field but also the gauge field on the D-brane as the generalized Nambu-Goldstone boson.

Boundary state analysis on the equivalence of T-duality and Nahm transformation in superstring theory

We investigated the equivalence of the T-duality for a bound state of D2 and D0-branes with the Nahm transformation of the corresponding gauge theory on a 2-dimensional torus, using the boundary state analysis in superstring theory. In contrast to the case of a 4-dimensional torus, it changes a sign in a topological charge, which seems puzzling when regarded as a D-brane charge. Nevertheless, it is shown that it agrees with the T-duality of the boundary state, including a minus sign. We reformulated boundary states in the RR-sector using a new representation of zeromodes, and show that the RR-coupling is invariant under the T-duality. Finally, the T-duality invariance at the level of the Chern-Simon coupling is shown by deriving the Buscher rule for the RR-potentials, known as the 'Hori formula', including the correct sign.

Twist Quantization of String and Hopf Algebraic Symmetry

We describe the twist quantization of string worldsheet theory, which unifies the description of quantization and the target space symmetry, based on the twisting of Hopf and module algebras. We formulate a method of decomposing a twist into successive twists to analyze the twisted Hopf and module algebra structure, and apply it to several examples, including finite twisted diffeomorphism and extra treatment for zero modes.

Twist Quantization of String and B Field Background

In a previous paper, we investigated the Hopf algebra structure in string theory and gave a unified formulation of the quantization of the string and the space-time symmetry. In this paper, this formulation is applied to the case with a nonzero B-field background, and the twist of the Poincare symmetry is studied. The Drinfeld twist accompanied by the B-field background gives an alternative quantization scheme, which requires a new normal ordering. In order to obtain a physical interpretation of this twisted Hopf algebra structure, we propose a method to decompose the twist into two successive twists and we give two different possibilities of decomposition. The first is a natural decomposition from the viewpoint of the twist quantization, leading to a new type of twisted Poincare symmetry. The second decomposition reveals the relation of our formulation to the twisted Poincare symmetry on the Moyal type noncommutative space.

Hopf Algebra Symmetry and String Theory

We investigate the Hopf algebra structure in string worldsheet theory and give a unified formulation of the quantization of string and the space-time symmetry. We reformulate the path integral quantization of string as a Drinfeld twist at the worldsheet level. The coboundary relation shows that the Drinfeld twist defines a module algebra which is equivalent to operators with normal ordering. Upon applying the twist, the space-time diffeomorphism is deformed into a twisted Hopf algebra, while the Poincaré symmetry is unchanged. This suggests a characterization of the symmetry: unbroken symmetries are twist invariant Hopf subalgebras, while broken symmetries are realized as twisted ones. We provide arguments that relate this twisted Hopf algebra to symmetries in path integral quantization.

Instantons in N=1/2 Super Yang-Mills Theory via Deformed Super ADHM Construction

We study an extension of the ADHM construction to give deformed anti-self-dual (ASD) instantons in N=1/2 super Yang-Mills theory with U(n) gauge group. First we extend the exterior algebra on superspace to non(anti)commutative superspace and show that the N=1/2 super Yang-Mills theory can be reformulated in a geometrical way. By using this exterior algebra, we formulate a non(anti)commutative version of the super ADHM construction and show that the curvature two-form superfields obtained by our construction do satisfy the deformed ASD equations and thus we establish the deformed super ADHM construction. We also show that the known deformed U(2) one instanton solution is obtained by this construction.

On A Superfield Extension of The ADHM Construction and N=1 Super Instantons

We give a superfield extension of the ADHM construction for the Euclidean theory obtained by Wick rotation from the Lorentzian four dimensional N=1 super Yang-Mills theory. In particular, we investigate the procedure to guarantee the Wess-Zumino gauge for the superfields obtained by the extended ADHM construction, and show that the known super instanton configurations are correctly obtained.
