On the magnetic 2+1- D space-time and its non-relativistic counterpart

We present here an interesting non-relativistic limit, referred to as the Newton-Hooke (NH) limit, of the purely magnetic BTZ solution by starting from the Einstein-Maxwell system in the 2+1 dimensions. The Newton-Hooke limit is different from the Galilean limit in the sense that the former contains an additional parameter {\Lambda}, the cosmological constant, over and above the speed of light, c. We show that under this limit, the geodesics of the magnetic BTZ solution reduce to the two-dimensional motion of a charged particle in a normal magnetic field together with the presence of an extra harmonic potential, sometimes called the Fock-Darwin problem, which serves as a precursor to model certain condensed matter theories. Our present study has significance in analyzing the symmetries of different dynamical systems, from relativistic and/to nonrelativistic theories. Also, we discuss here one of the applications of the generalized (magnetic) NH_3 symmetry in the context of the Virial theorem, where this symmetry is the symmetry group of the Fock-Darwin problem mentioned above.

Symmetry Duality: Exploring Exotic Oscillators And Dissipative Dynamics Through The Glass Of Newton-Hooke

Motivated by the symmetry in the non-relativistic limit of anti-de Sitter geometry, we employ planar dynamical models featuring exotic (deformed) harmonic oscillators, presented through direct and indirect Lagrangian representations. The latter introduces Bateman dissipative oscillator system. Analyzing these dynamic systems with a first-order Lagrangian scheme, our phase-space-based approach utilizes the moment map components to reveal the underlying symmetry algebra. This obtained algebra, interpreted as an extended version of Newton-Hooke (NH) cosmological symmetry algebras, has the potential to cast an augmented non-relativistic shadow over the expanding universe, offering an insightful perspective on extended NH spacetime in 2+1 dimensions through our dynamical realizations.

Symmetries of $\kappa$ Minkowski space-time: A possibility of exotic momentum space geometry?

The quest for a quantum gravity phenomenology has inspired a quantum notion of space-time, which motivates us to study the fate of the relativistic symmetries of a particular model of quantum space-time, as well as its intimate connection with the plausible emergent curved "physical momentum space". We here focus on the problem of Poincare symmetry of $\kappa$-Minkowski type non-commutative (quantum) space-time, where the Poincare algebra, on its own, remains undeformed, but in order to retain the structure of the space-time non-commutative (NC) algebra, action of the algebra generators on the operator-valued space-time manifold must be enveloping algebra valued that lives in entire phase space i.e. the cotangent bundle on the space-time manifold (at classical level). Further, we constructed a model for a spin-less relativistic massive particle enjoying the deformed Poincare symmetry, using the first order form of geometric Lagrangian, that satisfies a new deformed dispersion relation and explored a feasible regime of a future Quantum Gravity theory in which the momentum space becomes curved. In this scenario there is only a mass scale (Planck mass $m_{p}$), but no length scale. Finally, we relate the deformed mass shell to the geodesic distance in this curved momentum space, where the mass of the particle gets renormalized as a result of noncommutativity. We show, that under some circumstances, the Planck mass provides an upper bound for the observed renormalized mass.

Our Trysts with `Bal' and Noncommutative Geometry

This contributory article begins with our fond and sincere reminiscences about our beloved Prof. A.P. Balachandran. In the main part, we discuss our recent formulation of quantum mechanics on (1+1)D noncommutative space-time using Hilbert-Schmidt operators. As an application, we demonstrate how geometrical phase in a system of time-dependent forced harmonic oscillator living in the Moyal space-time can emerge.

Low frequency gravitational waves emerge Berry phase

The detection of low frequency gravitational waves (LFGWs) astronomy has marked an advent of new era in the domain of astrophysics and general relativity. Using the framework of interaction between GWs and a point two-particles like detector, within linearized gravity approach, we propose a toy detector model whose quantum state is being investigated at a low-frequency of GWs. The detector is in simultaneous interaction with GWs and an external time-dependent (tuneable) two-dimensional harmonic potential. We observe that the interaction with low frequency GWs naturally provides adiabatic approximation in the calculation, and thereby can lead to a quantal geometric phase in the quantum states of the detector. Moreover this can be controlled by tuning the frequency of the external harmonic potential trap. We argue that such geometric phase detection may serve as a manifestation of the footprint of GWs. More importantly, our theoretical model may be capable of providing a layout for the detection of very small frequency GWs through Berry phase.

A note on broken dilatation symmetry in planar noncommutative theory

A study of a riveting connection between noncommutativity and the anomalous dilatation (scale) symmetry is presented for a generalized quantum Hall system due to time dilatation transformations. On using the "Peierls substitution" scheme, it is shown that noncommutativity between spatial coordinates emerges naturally at a large magnetic field limit. Thereafter, we derive a path-integral action for the corresponding noncommutative quantum system and discuss the equivalence between the considered noncommutative system and the generalized Landau problem thus rendering an effective commmutative description. By exploiting the path-integral method due to Fujikawa, we derive an expression for the unintegrated scale or dilatation anomaly for the generalized Landau system, wherein the anomalies are identified with Jacobian factors arising from measure change under scale transformation and is subsequently renormalised. In fact, we derive exact expressions of anomalous Ward identities from which one may point out the existence of scale anomaly which is a purely quantum effect induced from the noncommutative structure between spatial coordinates.

Particle Dynamics and Lie-algebraic type of Non-commutativity of space-time

In this paper, we present the results of our investigation relating particle dynamics and non-commutativity of space-time by using Dirac's constraint analysis. In this study, we re-parameterise the time $t=t(τ)$ along with $x=x(τ)$ and treat both as configuration space variables. Here, $τ$ is a monotonic increasing parameter and the system evolves with this parameter. After constraint analysis, we find the deformed Dirac brackets similar to the $κ$-deformed space-time and also, get the deformed Hamilton's equations of motion. Moreover, we study the effect of non-commutativity on the generators of Galilean group and Poincare group and find undeformed form of the algebra. Also, we work on the extended space analysis in the Lagrangian formalism. We find the primary as well as the secondary constraints. Strikingly on calculating the Dirac brackets among the phase space variables, we obtain the classical version of $κ$-Minkowski algebra.

Connecting dissipation and noncommutativity: A Bateman system case study

Quantum effects on a pair of Bateman oscillators embedded in an ambient noncommutative space (Moyal plane) is analyzed using both path integral and canonical quantization schemes within the framework of Hilbert-Schmidt operator formulation. We adopt a method which is distinct from the one which employs 't Hooft's scheme of quantization, carried out earlier in the literature where the ambient space was taken to be commutative. Our quantization shows that we end up finally again with a Bateman system except that the damping factor undergoes renormalization. The corresponding expression shows that the renormalized damping factor can be non-zero even if "bare" one is zero to begin with. Conversely, the noncommuatative parameter $θ$, taken to be a free one now, can be fine-tuned to get a vanishing renormalized damping factor. This indicates a duality between dissipative commutative theory and non-dissipative noncommutative theory.

Quantum mechanics with space-time noncommutativity

We construct an effective commutative Schrödinger equation in Moyal space-time in $(1+1)$-dimension where both $t$ and $x$ are operator-valued and satisfy $\left[ \hat{t}, \hat{x} \right] = i θ$. Beginning with a time-reparametrised form of an action we identify the actions of various space-time coordinates and their conjugate momenta on quantum states, represented by Hilbert-Schmidt operators. Since time is also regarded as a configuration space variable, we show how an `induced' inner product can be extracted, so that an appropriate quantum mechanical interpretation is obtained. We then discuss several other applications of the formalism developed so far.
