The Effect of Massive Trans-Neptunian Objects in the Long-term Evolution and Leaking Rates of Neptune's 3:2 and 2:1 Mean Motion Resonances

The current populations trapped in Neptune's main mean motion resonances in the Kuiper belt, Plutinos in the 3:2 and Twotinos in the 2:1, contain some of the best-characterized minor objects in the Solar System, given their dynamical importance. In particular, Twotinos may hide evidence of Neptune's early migration. However, these populations vary in time, declining at a rate that has not been previously clearly established. In this work, we use numerical simulations to study the long-term evolution of the Plutino and Twotino populations. We use two data sources: the most up-to-date observations and the theoretical debiased model of the Kuiper belt known as L7. In addition to studying the giant planets' effect on these populations over 4 Gyr, we analyze the additional impact produced by the ten most massive trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) trapped in these resonances, as well as the effect of Pluto on the 2:1 population. We find that the decay rate in each resonance can be modeled as a stochastic process well described by an exponential decay with an offset determined by an underlying long-term stable population. The most massive TNOs, particularly Pluto, influence this decay rate significantly, as expected for the 3:2 resonance. Remarkably, Pluto also strongly influences the 2:1 resonance's evolution.

Non-uniform hyperbolicity of maps on $\mathbb{T}^2$

In this paper we prove that the homotopy class of non-homothety linear endomorphisms on $\mathbb{T}^2$ with determinant greater than 2 contains a $C^1$ open set of non-uniformly hyperbolic endomorphisms. Furthermore, we prove that the homotopy class of non-hyperbolic elements (having either $1$ or $-1$ as an eigenvalue) whose degree is large enough contains non-uniformly hyperbolic endomorphisms that are also $C^2$ stably ergodic. These results provide partial answers to certain questions posed in arXiv:2206.08295v2

Millimagnitude Photometry for Transiting Extrasolar Planetary Candidates: II. Transits of OGLE-TR-113-b in the Optical and Near-IR

We present precise V and Ks-band transit photometry for the planetary host star OGLE-TR-113. Using the Ks-band photometry, we confirm the dwarf nature of OGLE-TR-113, and obtain new estimates for its effective temperature, distance and reddening. We employ the V-band photometry to obtain planetary and orbit parameters from the transit fit, a= (0.0232 \pm 0.0038) AU, orbital period P= (1.4324752 \pm 0.0000015) days, i= 86.7 - 90, R_p= (1.09 \pm 0.09) R_J. These values are in excellent agreement with previous works. Assuming a mass M_p= (1.32 \pm 0.19) M_J for the planet we obtain its mean density ρ= (1.26 \pm 0.50) g cm^{-3}, also in agreement with previous works. The transit observed in the Ks-band has a larger scatter and we find its amplitude to be consistent with that in the V-band. In this way, we find an independent confirmation of the planetary nature of OGLE-TR-113b.
