Solitary wave solutions and their velocity selections and prohibitions for a general Boussinesq type fluid model

The possible solitary wave solutions for a general Boussinesq (GBQ) type fluid model are studied analytically. After proving the non-Painlevé integrability of the model, the first type of exact explicit travelling solitary wave with a special velocity selection is found by the truncated Painlevé expansion. The general solitary waves with different travelling velocities can be studied by casting the problems to the Newtonian quasi-particles moving in some proper one dimensional potential fields. For some special velocity selections, the solitary waves possess different shapes, say, the left moving solitary waves may possess different shapes and/or amplitudes with those of the right moving solitons. For some other velocities, the solitary waves are completely prohibited. There are three types of GBQ systems (GBQSs) according to the different selections of the model parameters. For the first type of GBQS, both the faster moving and lower moving solitary waves allowed but the solitary waves with"middle" velocities are prohibit. For the second type of GBQS all the slower moving solitary waves are completely prohibit while for the third type of GBQS only the slower moving solitary waves are allowed.

Folded solitary waves and Foldons in 2+1 dimensions

A general type of localized excitations, folded solitary waves and foldons, are defined and studied both analytically and graphically. The folded solitary waves and foldons may be "folded" in quite complicated ways and possess quite rich structures and abundant interaction properties. The folded phenomenon is quite universal in the real natural world. The folded solitary waves and foldons are obtained from a quite universal formula and the universal formula is valid for some quite universal (2+1)-dimensional physical models. The "universal" formula is also extended to a more general form with many more independent arbitrary functions.

New variable separation approach: application to nonlinear diffusion equations

The concept of the derivative-dependent functional separable solution, as a generalization to the functional separable solution, is proposed. As an application, it is used to discuss the generalized nonlinear diffusion equations based on the generalized conditional symmetry approach. As a consequence, a complete list of canonical forms for such equations which admit the derivative-dependent functional separable solutions is obtained and some exact solutions to the resulting equations are described.

Variable separation approach for a differential-difference system: special Toda equation

A multi-linear variable separation approach is developed to solve a differential-difference Toda equation. The semi-discrete form of the continuous universal formula is found for a suitable potential of the differential-difference Toda system. Abundant semi-discrete localized coherent structures of the potential can be found by appropriately selecting the arbitrary functions of the semi-discrete form of the universal formula.

Darboux Transformation and Variable Separation Approach: the Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov equation

Darboux transformation is developed to systematically find variable separation solutions for the Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov equation. Starting from a seed solution with some arbitrary functions, the once Darboux transformation yields the variable separable solutions which can be obtained from the truncated Painlevé analysis and the twice Darboux transformation leads to some new variable separable solutions which are the generalization of the known results obtained by using a guess ansatz to solve the generalized trilinear equation.

Chaos in soliton systems and special Lax pairs for chaos systems

In this letter, taking the well known (2+1)-dimensional soliton systems, Davey-Stewartson (DS) model and the asymmetric Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov (ANNV) model, as two special examples, we show that some types of lower dimensional chaotic behaviors may be found in higher dimensional soliton systems. Especially, we derive the famous Lorenz system and its general form from the DS equation and the ANNV equation. Some types of chaotic soliton solutions can be obtained from analytic expression of higher dimensional soliton systems and the numeric results of lower dimensional chaos systems. On the other hand, by means of the Lax pairs of some soliton systems, a \em lower \rm dimensional chaos system may have some types of \em higher \rm dimensional Lax pairs. An explicit (2+1)-dimensional Lax pair for a (1+1)-dimensional chaotic equation is given.

(1+1)-dimensional turbulence systems reduced from (2+1)-dimensional Lax integrable dispersive long wave equation

After extending the Clarkson-Kruskal's direct similarity reduction ansatz to a more general form, one may obtain various new types of reduction equations. Especially, some lower dimensional turbulence systems or chaotic systems may be obtained from the general type of similarity reductions of a higher dimensional Lax integrable model. Especially, the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation and an arbitrary three order quasilinear equation which includes the Korteweg de-Vries Burgers equation and the general Lorenz equation as two special cases are obtained from the reductions of the (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long wave equation system. Some types of periodic and chaotic solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long wave equation system are also discussed.

Second order Lax pairs of nonlinear partial differential equations with Schwarz variants

In this paper, we study the possible second order Lax operators for all the possible (1+1)-dimensional models with Schwarz variants and some special types of high dimensional models. It is shown that for every (1+1)-dimensional model and some special types of high dimensional models which possess Schwarz variants may have a second order Lax pair. The exiplicit Lax pairs for (1+1)-dimensional Korteweg de Vries equation, Harry Dym equation, Boussinesq equation, Caudry-Dodd-Gibbon-Sawada-Kortera equation, Kaup-Kupershmidt equation, Riccati equation, (2+1)-dimensional breaking soliton equation and a generalized (2+1)-dimensional fifth order equation are given.

High dimensional Schwarzian derivatives and Painlevé integrable models

Because of all the known integrable models possess Schwarzian forms with Möbious transformation invariance, it may be one of the best way to find new integrable models starting from some suitable Möbious transformation invariant equations. In this paper, the truncated Painlevé analysis is used to find high dimensional Schwarzian derivatives. Especially, a three dimensional Schwarzian derivative is obtained explicitly. The higher dimensional higher order Schwarzian derivatives which are invariant under the Möbious transformations may be expressed by means of the lower dimensional lower order ones. All the known Schwarzian derivatives can be used to construct high dimensional Painlevé integrable models.

Higher dimensional Lax pairs of lower dimensional chaos and turbulence systems

In this letter, a definition of the higher dimensional Lax pair for a lower dimensional system which may be a chaotic system is given. A special concrete (2+1)-dimensional Lax pair for a general (1+1)-dimensional three order autonomous partial differential equation is studied. The result shows that any (1+1)-dimensional three order semi-linear autonomous system (no matter it is integrable or not) possesses infinitely many (2+1)-dimensional Lax pairs. Especially, every solution of the KdV equation and the Harry-Dym equation with their space variable being replaced by the field variable can be used to obtain a (2+1)-dimensional Lax pair of any three order (1+1)-dimensional semi-linear equation.
