5D UED: Flat and Flavorless

5D UED is not automatically minimally flavor violating. This is due to flavor asymmetric counter-terms required on the branes. Additionally, there are likely to be higher dimensional operators which directly contribute to flavor observables. We document a mostly unsuccessful attempt at utilizing localization in a flat extra dimension to resolve these flavor constraints while maintaining KK-parity as a good quantum number. It is unsuccessful insofar as we seem to be forced to add brane operators in such a way as to precisely mimic the effects of a double throat warped extra dimension. In the course of our efforts, we encounter and present solutions to a problem common to many extra dimensional models in which fields are "doubly localized:" ultra-light modes. Under scrutiny, this issue seems tied to an intrinsic tension between maintaining Kaluza-Klein parity and resolving mass hierarchies via localization.

A vector-like fourth generation with a discrete symmetry from Split-UED

Split-UED allows for the possibility that the lowest lying KK excitations of the Standard Model fermions can be much lighter than the corresponding gauge or Higgs KK states. This can happen provided the fermion bulk masses are chosen to be large, in units of the inverse compactification radius, 1/R, and negative. In this setup, all of the other KK states would be effectively decoupled from low energy physics. Such a scenario would then lead to an apparent vector-like fourth generation with an associated discrete symmetry that allows us to accommodate a dark matter candidate. In this paper the rather unique phenomenology presented by this picture will be examined.

Invisible Higgs decay with B\to Kν\barν constraint

If the Higgs boson were the only particle within the LHC accessible range, precision measurement of the Higgs's properties would play a unique role in studying electroweak symmetry breaking as well as possible new physics. We try to use low energy experiments such as rare B decay to constrain a challenging decay mode of Higgs, in which a Higgs decays to a pair of light (\approx 1 \sim 2 GeV) SM singlet S and becomes invisible. By using the current experimental bound of rare decay B\to Kν\barν and computing the contribution of B\to K SS to (the) B\to K+\cancel{E}, we obtain an upper bound on the Higgs coupling to such light singlet. It is interesting that the partial width of the invisible decay mode h\to SS by taking the upper bound value of coupling is at a comparable level with h\to WW/ZZ or WW^(*) decay modes, making the Higgs identifiable but with a different predicted decay BR from the standard model Higgs decay. It will then have an impact on precision measurement of the Higgs's properties. We also study the implication for cosmology from such a light singlet and propose a solution to the potential problem.

Collider Phenomenology with Split-UED

We investigate the collider implications of Split Universal Extra Dimensions. The non-vanishing fermion mass in the bulk, which is consistent with the KK-parity, largely modifies the phenomenology of Minimal Universal Exta Dimensions. We scrutinize the behavior of couplings and study the discovery reach of the Tevatron and the LHC for level-2 Kaluza-Klein modes in the dilepton channel, which would indicates the presence of the extra dimensions. Observation of large event rates for dilepton resonances can result from a nontrivial fermion mass profile along the extra dimensions, which, in turn, may corroborate extra dimensional explanation for the observation of the positron excess in cosmic rays.

A class of inflation models with non-minimal coupling

We show that the potential of the scalar field in the Einstein frame is flat if the nonminimal coupling term is properly chosen that it satisfies the condition (V(phi)/K^2(phi)-> constant) as phi gets large. The cosmological implication of this theory is studied.

Dark Matter and Collider Physics in Split-UED

Kaluza-Klein dark matter is an attractive weakly interacting massive particle in universal extra dimension model. In the recent extension "split-UED", annihilation of Kaluza-Klein dark matter with a mass range 600-1000 GeV provides excellent fits to the recently observed excesses in cosmic electron and positron fluxes of Pamela, ATIC and Fermi-LAT experiments. The cosmic gamma-ray flux in the same process can be significant around 300 GeV, thus can be observed or constrained by the forthcoming Fermi-LAT diffuse gamma-ray data. The collider signal at the LHC is the resonance in the dijets channels and the large missing energy in the missing energy plus jets.

Neutrino mass from a hidden world and its phenomenological implications

We propose a model of neutrino mass generation in extra dimension. Allowing a large lepton number violation on a distant brane spatially separated from the standard model brane, a small neutrino mass is naturally generated due to an exponential suppression of the messenger field in the 5D bulk. The model accommodates a large Yukawa coupling with the singlet neutrino (n_R) which may change the standard Higgs search and can simultaneously accommodate visible lepton number violation at the electroweak scale, which leads to very interesting phenomenology at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

Kaluza-Klein Dark Matter After Fermi

Kaluza-Klein photon in universal extra dimension models is one of the most attractive dark matter candidates as a weakly interacting massive particle. Having a characteristic split spectrum in split universal extra dimension the relic density of Kaluza-Klein photon with 900 GeV mass is in good agreement with the observed dark matter amount in our Universe. Interestingly Kaluza-Klein photon in the same mass range also provides excellent fits to the recently observed excesses in cosmic electron and positron fluxes. The amount of gamma-ray contributions, mostly from tau decays, can be significant around 300 GeV, thus can be observed or constrained by the forthcoming Fermi-LAT diffuse gamma-ray data.

Split-UED and Dark Matter

Motivated by the recent observation of the high energy electron and positron excesses in cosmic ray by PAMELA and ATIC/PPB-BETS, we suggest an anomaly-free scenario for the universal extra dimension that localizes the SM quarks and splits the spectrum of KK quarks from KK leptons. When the SM quarks are "well localized" at the boundaries, the most stringent bound of the model ($1/R > 510$ GeV) comes from the resonance search for the Tevatron dijet channels. Even at the early stage of LHC, one can discover the second KK gluon for masses up to 4 TeV.

Dark matter and collider phenomenology of split-UED

We explicitly show that split-universal extra dimension (split-UED), a recently suggested extension of universal extra dimension (UED) model, can nicely explain recent anomalies in cosmic-ray positrons and electrons observed by PAMELA and ATIC/PPB-BETS. Kaluza-Klein (KK) dark matters mainly annihilate into leptons because the hadronic branching fraction is highly suppressed by large KK quark masses and the antiproton flux agrees very well with the observation where no excess is found . The flux of cosmic gamma-rays from pion decay is also highly suppressed and hardly detected in low energy region (E<20 GeV). Collider signatures of colored KK particles at the LHC, especially q_1 q_1 production, are studied in detail. Due to the large split in masses of KK quarks and other particles, hard p_T jets and missing E_T are generated, which make it possible to suppress the standard model background and discover the signals.

Black Holes at the LHC: Progress since 2002

We review the recent noticeable progresses in black hole physics focusing on the up-coming super-collider, the LHC. We discuss the classical formation of black holes by particle collision, the greybody factors for higher dimensional rotating black holes, the deep implications of black hole physics to the `energy-distance' relation, the security issues of the LHC associated with black hole formation and the newly developed Monte-Carlo generators for black hole events.

Inflation in the nonminimal theory with `K(phi)R' term

A class of inflationary models with the nonminimal coupling term `K(phi)R' is considered. We show that the successful inflation can take place if the ratio between the square of the nonminimal coupling term and the potential for the scalar goes asymptotically constant.

511 keV $γ$-ray emission from the galactic bulge by MeV millicharged dark matter

We propose a possible explanation for the recently observed anomalous 511 keV line with a new "millicharged" fermion. This new fermion is light [${\cal O}({\rm MeV})$]. Nevertheless, it has never been observed by any collider experiments by virtue of its tiny electromagnetic charge $εe$. In particular, we constrain parameters of this millicharged particle if the 511 keV cosmic $γ$-ray emission from the galactic bulge is due to positron production from this new particle.

Inflation by non-minimal coupling

Inflationary scenarios based on simple non-minimal coupling and its generalizations are studied. Generalizing the form of non-minimal coupling to "K(phi)R" with an arbitrary function K(phi), we show that the flat potential still is obtainable when V(phi)/K^2(phi) is asymptotically constant. Very interestingly, if the ratio of the dimensionless self-coupling constant of the inflaton field and the non-minimal coupling constant is small the cosmological observables for general monomial cases are in good agreement with recent observational data.

Galactic 511 keV line from MeV millicharged dark matter

We present a possible explanation of the recently observed 511 keV $γ$-ray anomaly with a new ``millicharged'' fermion. The new fermion is light (${\cal O}({\rm MeV})$) but has never been observed by any collider experiments mainly because of its tiny electromagnetic charge $εe$. We show that constraints from its relic density in the Universe and collider experiments allow a parameter range such that the 511 keV cosmic $γ$-ray emission from the galactic bulge may be due to positron production from this millicharged fermion.

Minimal gauge inflation

We consider a gauge inflation model in the simplest orbifold M4 x S1/Z2 with the minimal non-Abelian SU(2) hidden sector gauge symmetry. The inflaton potential is fully radiatively generated solely by gauge self-interactions. Following the virtue of gauge inflation idea, the inflaton, a part of the five dimensional gauge boson, is automatically protected by the gauge symmetry and its potential is stable against quantum corrections. We show that the model perfectly fits the recent cosmological observations, including the recent WMAP 5-year data, in a wide range of the model parameters. In the perturbative regime of gauge interactions (g_{4D} <= 1/(2pi R M_P)) with the moderately compactified radius (10 <= R M_P <= 100) the anticipated magnitude of the curvature perturbation power spectrum and the value of the corresponding spectral index are in perfect agreement with the recent observations. The model also predicts a large fraction of the gravitational waves, negligible non-Gaussianity, and high enough reheating temperature.

Orbifold GUT inflation

We consider a scenario of cosmological inflation coming from a grand unified theory in higher dimensional orbifold. Flatness of the potential is automatically guaranteed in this orbifold setup thanks to the nonlocality of the Wilson line on higher dimensions and the local quantum gravitational corrections are exponentially suppressed. The spectral index of scalar perturbation (n_s =0.92 - 0.97) and a significant production of gravitational waves are predicted (r= T/S= 0.01 - 0.12) in the perturbative regime of gauge interaction, (1/g_4 = (5-20) X 2 pi R Mpl) where the size of compactification is constrained (R Mpl = 20- 45) by the measurement of scalar power spectrum (Delta_R = 5 X 10^-5).

Phenomenology of Top Partners at the ILC

The assumption of a new symmetry provides a nice explanation of the existence of dark matter and an elegant way to avoid the electroweak constraints. This symmetry often requires the pair production of new particles at colliders and it guarantees that cascade decays down to the lightest particle give rise to missing energy plus jets and leptons. For a long time, supersymmetry with the conserved R-parity was the only candidate for such signals. However, any new physics with this type of new symmetry may show up with similar signals and the discrimination between different models at the LHC is quite challenging. In this paper, we address the problem of discrimination between different models, more concretely, in the little Higgs theory with T-parity (LHT) and the supersymmetric theory with R-parity. We concentrate on the pair production of heavy top partners, e.g., T-odd quarks in LHT and the scalar top quarks in the MSSM at linear colliders (LC).
