Magneto-transport signatures in periodically-driven Weyl and multi-Weyl semimetals

We investigate the influence of a time-periodic driving (for example, by shining circularly polarized light) on three-dimensional Weyl and multi-Weyl semimetals, in the planar Hall and planar thermal Hall set-ups. We incorporate the effects of the drive by using the Floquet formalism in the large frequency limit. We evaluate the longitudinal magneto conductivity, planar Hall conductivity, longitudinal thermo-electric coefficient, and transverse thermo-electric coefficient, using the semi-classical Boltzmann transport equations. We demonstrate the explicit expressions of these transport coefficients in certain limits of the parameters, where it is possible to perform the integrals analytically. We cross-check our analytical approximations by comparing the physical values with the numerical results, obtained directly from the numerical integration of the integrals. The answers obtained show that the topological charges of the corresponding semimetals have profound signatures in these transport properties, which can be observed in experiments.

Non local parity order in the two-dimensional Mott insulator

The Mott insulator is characterized by having small deviations around the (integer) average particle density n, with pairs with n-1 and n+1 particles forming bound states. In one dimension, the effect is captured by a non-zero value of a non-local "string" of parities, which instead vanishes in the superfluid phase where density fluctuations are large. Here, we investigate the interaction induced transition from the superfluid to the Mott insulator, in the paradigmatic Bose Hubbard model at n=1. By means of quantum Monte Carlo simulations and finite size scaling analysis on LxM ladders, we explore the behavior of "brane" parity operators for L going to infinity from one dimension (i.e., M=1) to two dimensions (i.e., M going to infinity). We confirm the conjecture that, adopting a standard definition, their average value decays to zero in two dimensions also in the insulating phase, evaluating the scaling factor of the "perimeter law" [S.P. Rath et al., Ann. Phys. (N.Y.) 334, 256 (2013)]. Upon introducing a further phase in the brane parity, we show that its expectation value becomes non-zero in the insulator, while still vanishing at the transition to the superfluid phase. These quantities are directly accessible to experimental measures, thus providing an insightful signature of the Mott insulator.

Low energy quantum regimes of 1D dipolar Hubbard model with correlated hopping

We apply the bosonization technique to derive the phase diagram of a balanced unit density two-component dipolar Fermi gas in a one dimensional lattice geometry. The considered interaction processes are of the usual contact and dipolar long-range density-density type together with peculiar correlated hopping terms which can be generated dynamically. Rigorous bounds for the transition lines are obtained in the weak coupling regime. In addition to the standard bosonization description, we derive the low energy phase diagram taking place when part of the interaction is embodied non-perturbatively in the single component Hamiltonians. In this case the Luttinger liquid regime is shown to become unstable with respect to the opening of further gapped phases, among which insulating bond ordered wave and Haldane phases, the latter with degenerate edge modes.
