Compressed Quantum Operators and Roots of Hermite Polynomials

The fundamental position and momentum operators of quantum mechanics are unbounded, but finite rank compressions of the operators can be considered to obtain partial information on the operators and their properties. Motivated by problems in photonic quantum computing, we bring together results from quantum theory and the theory of orthogonal polynomials to show that a natural finite rank compression of the position and momentum operator representation on Fock space Hilbert space has eigenvalues given by roots of the classical Hermite polynomials. We discuss the corresponding compressed displacement operators and potential applications in approximate quantum error correction.

Hidden shift problem for complex functions

We study quantum algorithms for the hidden shift problem of complex scalar- and vector-valued functions on finite abelian groups. Given oracle access to a shifted function and the Fourier transform of the unshifted function, the goal is to find the hidden shift. We analyze the success probability of our algorithms when using a constant number of queries. For bent functions, they succeed with probability 1, while for arbitrary functions the success probability depends on the `bentness' of the function.

Unified and Generalized Approach to Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Error Correction

We introduce a framework for entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes that unifies the three original frameworks for such codes called EAQEC, EAOQEC, and EACQ under a single umbrella. The unification is arrived at by viewing entanglement-assisted codes from the operator algebra quantum error correction perspective, and it is built upon a recently established extension of the stabilizer formalism to that setting. We denote the framework by EAOAQEC, and we prove a general error correction theorem for such codes, derived from the algebraic perspective, that generalizes each of the earlier results. This leads us to a natural notion of distance for such codes, and we derive a number of distance results for subclasses of the codes. We show how EACQ codes form a proper subclass of the entanglement-assisted subspace codes defined by EAOAQEC. We identify and construct new classes of entanglement-assisted subsystem codes and entanglement-assisted hybrid classical-quantum codes that are found outside of the earlier approaches.

On solutions of the Diophantine equation $\mathcal{P}_m-L_n=c$

\noindent In this article, we determine all the integers $c$ having at least two representations as difference between two linear recurrent sequences. This is a variant of the Pillai's equation. This equation is an exponential Diophantine equation. The proof of our main theorem uses lower bounds for linear forms of logarithms, properties of continued fractions, and a version of the Baker-Davenport reduction method in Diophantine approximation.

On Pillai's problem involving two linear recurrent sequences : Padovan and Fibonacci

In this paper, we find all integers $c$ having at least two representations as a difference between linear recurrent sequences. This problem is a pillai problem involving Padovan and Fibonacci sequence. The proof of our main theorem uses lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms, properties of continued fractions, and a version of the Baker-Davenport reduction method in Diophantine approximation.
