Majorization precursors to supermodularity and subadditivity on the majorization lattice

We establish two structural majorization relations, which we call precursors, underlying the properties of supermodularity and subadditivity on the lattice induced by majorization. These are precursors in that they immediately imply that all sums of concave functions, which we dub sum-concave functions, are supermodular and subadditive on the majorization lattice. Using these majorization relations, we then show the supermodularity and subadditivity (in the lattice-theoretic sense) of Tsallis entropies (for all $\alpha$) and R\'enyi entropies (for all $\alpha > 1$), also recovering these properties for the Shannon entropy in the process. We further strengthen these inequalities, showing that: (i) all these entropic functionals are strictly subadditive on the majorization lattice; (ii) Tsallis entropies (and therefore the Shannon entropy as well) are strictly supermodular on the majorization lattice.

Detecting strongly non-Gaussian entanglement

Efficiently certifying non-Gaussian entanglement in continuous-variable quantum systems is a central challenge for advancing quantum information processing, photonic quantum computing, and metrology. Here, we put forward continuous-variable counterparts to the recently introduced entanglement criteria based on moments of the partially transposed state, together with simple readout schemes that require only a few replicas of the state, passive linear optics, and particle-number measurements. We develop a multicopy method that enables the detection of strongly non-Gaussian entanglement for various relevant state families overlooked by standard approaches, which include the entire class of NOON states. Further, it is robust against realistic experimental constraints (losses, noise, and finite statistics), which we demonstrate by extensive numerical simulations.

Probabilistic pure state conversion on the majorization lattice

Entanglement is among the most fundamental-and at the same time puzzling-properties of quantum physics. Its modern description relies on a resource-theoretical approach, which treats entangled systems as a means to enable or accelerate certain informational tasks. Hence, it is of crucial importance to determine whether-and how-different entangled states can be converted into each other under free operations (those which do not create entanglement from nothing). Here, we show that the majorization lattice provides an efficient framework in order to characterize the allowed transformations of pure entangled states under local operations and classical communication. The underlying notions of meet $\land$ and join $\lor$ in the majorization lattice lead us to define, respectively, the optimal common resource and optimal common product states. Based on these two states, we introduce two optimal probabilistic protocols for the (single-copy) conversion of incomparable bipartite pure states, which we name greedy and thrifty. Both protocols reduce to Vidal's protocol [G. Vidal, Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 1046 (1999)] if the initial and final states are comparable, but otherwise the thrifty protocol can be shown to be superior to the greedy protocol as it yields a more entangled residual state when it fails (they both yield the same entangled state with the same optimal probability when they succeed). Finally, we consider the generalization of these protocols to entanglement transformations involving multiple initial or final states.
