Electrostatic Discharge Currents Representation using the Multi-Peaked Analytically Extended Function by Interpolation on a D-Optimal Design

Multi-peaked analytically extended function (AEF), previously applied by the authors to modelling of lightning discharge currents, is used in this paper for representation of the electrostatic discharge (ESD) currents. The fitting to data is achieved by interpolation of certain data points. In order to minimize unstable behaviour, the exponents of the AEF are chosen from a certain arithmetic sequence and the interpolated points are chosen according to a D-optimal design. ESD currents' modelling is illustrated through two examples: one corresponding to an approximation of the IEC Standard 61000-4-2 waveshape, and the other to representation of some measured ESD current.

Graph partitioning and a componentwise PageRank algorithm

In this article we will present a graph partitioning algorithm which partitions a graph into two different types of components: the well-known `strongly connected components' as well as another type of components we call `connected acyclic component'. We will give an algorithm based on Tarjan's algorithm for finding strongly connected components used to find such a partitioning. We will also show that the partitioning given by the algorithm is unique and that the underlying graph can be represented as a directed acyclic graph (similar to a pure strongly connected component partitioning). In the second part we will show how such an partitioning of a graph can be used to calculate PageRank of a graph effectively by calculating PageRank for different components on the same `level' in parallel as well as allowing for the use of different types of PageRank algorithms for different types of components. To evaluate the method we have calculated PageRank on four large example graphs and compared it with a basic approach, as well as our algorithm in a serial as well as parallel implementation.

Common Fixed Points of Weakly Commuting Multivalued Mappings on Domain of Sets Endowed with Directed Graph

In this paper, the existence of coincidence points and common fixed points for multivalued mappings satisfying certain graphic ψ-contraction contractive conditions with set-valued domain endowed with a graph, without appealing to continuity, is established. Some examples are presented to support the results proved herein. Our results unify, generalize and extend various results in the existing literature.

Fractals of generalized F- Hutchinson operator in b-metric spaces

The aim of this paper is to construct a fractal with the help of a finite family of generalized F-contraction mappings, a class of mappings more general than contraction mappings, defined in the setup of b-metric space. Consequently, we obtain a variety of results for iterated function system satisfying a different set of contractive conditions. Our results unify, generalize and extend various results in the existing literature.

Linear Classification of data with Support Vector Machines and Generalized Support Vector Machines

In this paper, we study the support vector machine and introduced the notion of generalized support vector machine for classification of data. We show that the problem of generalized support vector machine is equivalent to the problem of generalized variational inequality and establish various results for the existence of solutions. Moreover, we provide various examples to support our results.

An Examination of the Multi-Peaked Analytically Extended Function for Approximation of Lightning Channel-Base Currents

A multi-peaked version of the analytically extended function (AEF) intended for approximation of multi-peaked lightning current wave-forms will be presented along with some of its basic properties. A general framework for estimating the parameters of the AEF using the Marquardt least-squares method (MLSM) for a waveform with an arbitrary (finite) number of peaks as well as a given charge trans-fer and specific energy will also be described. This framework is used to find parameters for some common single-peak wave-forms and some advantages and disadvantages of the approach will be discussed.

Application of the Multi-Peaked Analytically Extended Function to Representation of Some Measured Lightning Currents

A multi-peaked form of the analytically extended function (AEF) is used for approximation of lightning current waveforms in this paper. The AEF function's parameters are estimated using the Marquardt least-squares method (MLSM), and the general procedure for fitting the $p$-peaked AEF function to a waveform with an arbitrary (finite) number of peaks is briefly described. This framework is used for obtaining parameters of 2-peaked waveforms typically present when measuring first negative stroke currents. Advantages, disadvantages and possible improvements of the approach are also discussed.

Asymptotic Expansions for Stationary Distributions of Nonlinearly Perturbed Semi-Markov Processes. I

New algorithms for construction of asymptotic expansions for stationary distributions of nonlinearly perturbed semi-Markov processes with finite phase spaces are presented. These algorithms are based on a special technique of sequential phase space reduction, which can be applied to processes with an arbitrary asymptotic communicative structure of phase spaces. Asymptotic expansions are given in two forms, without and with explicit bounds for remainders.

On $(n+1)$-Hom-Lie Algebras Induced by $n$-Hom-Lie Algebras

The purpose of this paper is to study the relationships between an $n$-Hom-Lie algebra and its induced $(n+1)$-Hom-Lie algebra. We provide an overview of the theory and explore the structure properties such as ideals, center, derived series, solvability, nilpotency, central extensions, and the cohomology.

Extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant on the sphere and some limits involving the generalized Vandermonde determinant

The values of the determinant of Vandermonde matrices with real elements are analyzed both visually and analytically over the unit sphere in various dimensions. For three dimensions some generalized Vandermonde matrices are analyzed visually. The extreme points of the ordinary Vandermonde determinant on finite-dimensional unit spheres are given as the roots of rescaled Hermite polynomials and a recursion relation is provided for the polynomial coefficients. Analytical expressions for these roots are also given for dimension three to seven. A transformation of the optimization problem is provided and some relations between the ordinary and generalized Vandermonde matrices involving limits are discussed.

PageRank for evolving link structures

In this article we will look at the PageRank algorithm used as part of the ranking process of different Internet pages in search engines by for example Google. This article has its main focus in the understanding of the behavior of PageRank as the system dynamically changes either by contracting or expanding such as when adding or subtracting nodes or links or groups of nodes or links. In particular we will take a look at link structures consisting of a line of nodes or a complete graph where every node links to all others. We will look at PageRank as the solution of a linear system of equations and do our examination in both the ordinary normalized version of PageRank as well as the non-normalized version found by solving the linear system. We will see that it is possible to find explicit formulas for the PageRank in some simple link structures and using these formulas take a more in-depth look at the behavior of the ranking as the system changes.

Direct and Inverse Computational Methods for Electromagnetic Scattering in Biological Diagnostics

Scattering theory has had a major roll in twentieth century mathematical physics. Mathematical modeling and algorithms of direct,- and inverse electromagnetic scattering formulation due to biological tissues are investigated. The algorithms are used for a model based illustration technique within the microwave range. A number of methods is given to solve the inverse electromagnetic scattering problem in which the nonlinear and ill-posed nature of the problem are acknowledged.

Connections between dynamical systems and crossed products of Banach algebras by $\mathbb{Z}$

Starting with a complex commutative semi-simple regular Banach algebra $A$ and an automorphism $σ$ of $A$, we form the crossed product of $A$ with the integers, where the latter act on $A$ via iterations of $σ$. The automorphism induces a topological dynamical system on the character space $Δ(A)$ of $A$ in a natural way. We prove an equivalence between the property that every non-zero ideal in the crossed product has non-zero intersection with the subalgebra $A$, maximal commutativity of $A$ in the crossed product, and density of the non-periodic points of the induced system on the character space. We also prove that every non-trivial ideal in the crossed product always intersects the commutant of $A$ non-trivially. Furthermore, under the assumption that $A$ is unital and such that $Δ(A)$ consists of infinitely many points, we show equivalence between simplicity of the crossed product and minimality of the induced system, and between primeness of the crossed product and topological transitivity of the system.

Dynamical systems associated with crossed products

In this paper, we consider both algebraic crossed products of commutative complex algebras A with the integers under an automorphism of A, and Banach algebra crossed products of commutative C^*-algebras A with the integers under an automorphism of A. We investigate, in particular, connections between algebraic properties of these crossed products and topological properties of naturally associated dynamical systems. For example, we draw conclusions about the ideal structure of the crossed product by investigating the dynamics of such a system. To begin with, we recall results in this direction in the context of an algebraic crossed product and give simplified proofs of generalizations of some of these results. We also investigate new questions, for example about ideal intersection properties of algebras properly between the coefficient algebra A and its commutant A'. Furthermore, we introduce a Banach algebra crossed product and study the relation between the structure of this algebra and the topological dynamics of a naturally associated system.

Decomposition of wavelet representations and Martin boundaries

We study a decomposition problem for a class of unitary representations associated with wavelet analysis, wavelet representations, but our framework is wider and has applications to multi-scale expansions arising in dynamical systems theory for non-invertible endomorphisms. Our main results offer a direct integral decomposition for the general wavelet representation, and we solve a question posed by Judith Packer. This entails a direct integral decomposition of the general wavelet representation. We further give a detailed analysis of the measures contributing to the decomposition into irreducible representations. We prove results for associated Martin boundaries, relevant for the understanding of wavelet filters and induced random-walks, as well as classes of harmonic functions. Our setting entails representations built from certain finite-to-one endomorphisms $r$ in compact metric spaces $X$, and we study their dilations to automorphisms in induced solenoids. Our wavelet representations are covariant systems formed from the dilated automorphisms. They depend on assigned measures $μ$ on $X$. It is known that when the data $(X, r, μ)$ are given the associated wavelet representation is typically reducible. By introducing wavelet filters associated to $(X, r)$ we build random walks in $X$, path-space measures, harmonic functions, and an associated Martin boundary. We construct measures on the solenoid $(X_\infty, r_\infty)$, built from $(X, r)$. We show that $r_\infty$ induces unitary operators $U$ on Hilbert space $\H$ and representations $π$ of the algebra $L^\infty(X)$ such that the pair $(U, r_\infty)$, together with the corresponding representation $π$ forms a cross-product in the sense of $C^*$-algebras. We note that the traditional wavelet representations fall within this wider framework of $(\H, U, π)$ covariant crossed products.
