Shannon's entropy revisited

I consider the effect of a finite sample size on the entropy of a sample of independent events. I propose formula for entropy which satisfies Shannon's axioms, and which reduces to Shannon's entropy when sample size is infinite. I discuss the physical meaning of the difference between two formulas, including some practical implications, such as maximum achievable channel utilization, and minimum achievable communication protocol overhead, for a given message size.

Time as a parameter of statistical ensemble

The notion of time is derived as a parameter of statistical ensemble representing the underlying system. Varying population numbers of microstates in statistical ensemble result in different expectation values corresponding to different times. We show a single parameter which equates to the notion of time is logarithm of the total number of microstates in statistical ensemble. We discuss the implications of proposed model for some topics of modern physics: Poincaré recurrence theorem vs. Second Law of Thermodynamics, matter vs. anti-matter asymmetry of the universe, expansion of the universe, Big Bang.

Condensation into ground state in binary string models

The ensemble of binary strings defined via strong-interaction model exhibits enhanced condensation (collapse) into ground state below certain temperature. The non-interaction model shows gradual accumulation into ground state as temperature approaches zero

Thermodynamic properties of finite binary strings

Thermodynamic properties such as temperature, pressure, and internal energy have been defined for finite binary strings from equilibrium distribution of a chosen computable measure. It is demonstrated a binary string can be associated with one-dimensional gas of quasi-particles of certain mass, momentum, and energy.
