Nonrelativistic inverse square potential, scale anomaly, and complex extension

The old problem of a singular, inverse square potential in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics is treated employing a field-theoretic, functional renormalization method. An emergent contact coupling flows to a fixed point or develops a limit cycle depending on the discriminant of its quadratic beta function. We analyze the fixed points in both conformal and non-conformal phases and perform a natural extension of the renormalization group analysis to complex values of the contact coupling. Physical interpretation and motivation for this extension is the presence of an inelastic scattering channel in two-body collisions. We present a geometric description of the complex generalization by considering renormalization group flows on the Riemann sphere. Finally, using bosonization, we find an analytical solution of the extended renormalization group flow equations, constituting the main result of our work.

Correlation functions in the non-relativistic AdS/CFT correspondence

We study the correlation functions of scalar operators in the theory defined as the holographic dual of the Schroedinger background with dynamical exponent z=2 at zero temperature and zero chemical potential. We offer a closed expression of the correlation functions at tree level in terms of Fourier transforms of the corresponding n-point functions computed from pure AdS in the lightcone frame. At the loop level this mapping does not hold and one has to use the full Schroedinger background, after proper regularization. We explicitly compute the 3-point function comparing it with the specific 3-point function of the non-relativistic theory of cold atoms at unitarity. We find agreement of both 3-point functions, including the part not fixed by the symmetry, up to an overall normalization constant.

Perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of QED_{3}

In this work we review various findings in the planar quantum physics with the special emphasis on the two-component quantum electrodynamics in three-dimensional spacetime (QED_{3}) with the Chern-Simons (CS) term. First the classical electrodynamics is briefly outlined. Then we construct and classify the unitary irreducible representations of the Poincare group and connect them to various covariant fields. Subtleties with discrete symmetries arising in QED_{3} are also discussed. Quantization of the free gauge field with and without the CS term is performed in Coulomb gauge. Subsequently we discuss the ultraviolet behavior of the theory in perturbative regime and perform some one-loop calculations. The induced CS term is examined using the effective action formalism. The non-relativistic electron-electron interactions are considered in the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory and the possibility of bound states is briefly discussed. We also examine the non-relativistic scattering of two anyons in the pure CS theory to one-loop order.
