Dynamic control of resonance fluorescence in graphene quantum plasmonics

The spectral and statistical properties are explored for surface plasmon (SP) emission in resonance fluorescence from a driven two level emitter in the proximity of 2D single graphene sheet. We derive an exact closed form analytic expression for the emitted SP field valid in the near and far regions. The SP field profile and spectrum function depend on the graphene conductivity and take into account the dynamic control parameters, namely Fermi energy. We present analysis for the spectrum and second order coherence functions and discuss the possibility of their control using graphene system parameters to manipulate the spectral linewidth and second order coherence function.

A graphene platform for nano scale coherent interaction of surface plasmons with resonant atomic ensembles

We propose a 2D graphene structure containing atomic ensemble as a platform for implementing nanoscale enhanced coherent interactions of plasmonic fields with resonant atomic systems. We determine the graphene surface plasmon modes, and the properties of its electromagnetic fields, and emphasize the role of graphene sheet separation on the interaction with atomic systems for various dipole orientations and positions between the graphene sheets. We analyze the conditions for implementation of coherent interaction of SP mode with resonant atomic ensembles. By solving the Maxwell-Bloch equations that govern the resonant interaction of surface plasmons with atoms, we derive the modified area theorem, which makes it possible to identify the most common nonlinear patterns in the behavior of plasmons under the studied conditions. We obtain analytical and numerical solutions of the area theorem, and find the possibility of stable propagation of isolated SP pulses of graphene surface plasmon modes at "fractional" pulse area values relative to $π$. We show that the coherent dynamics of SP fields can be realized in nanoscale design and we highlight the possibilities of using this scheme of coherent dynamics for implementing compact multimode nanoscale quantum memory and its integration with other quantum devices on the proposed platform.

Area theorem for surface plasmons interacting with resonant atoms

We show how the area theorem is applicable to the analytical description of the nonlinear interaction of surface plasmon modes with resonant two-level atoms. A closed analytical solution is obtained, which shows that surface plasmons can form long-propagating $2π$ pulses when interacting with an optically dense two-level atomic ensemble. The possible applications of the surface pulse area theorem and the conditions for the detection of $2π$ surface plasmon pulses are discussed.

Bright ultra-broadband fiber-based biphoton source

In this Letter, we report a first experimental realization of bright ultra-broadband (180 THz) fiber-based biphoton source with widely spectrally separated signal and idler photons. Such a two-photon source is realized due to the joint use of broadband phase-matching of interacting light waves and high optical nonlinearity of a silica-core photonic crystal fiber. The high performance of the developed fiber source identifies it as an important and useful tool for a wide range of optical quantum applications.

Photon echo in ring cavity: pulse area approach

Pulse area approach has been established as a versatile analytical tool for studying the resonant interaction between the light and the resonant atomic ensemble. In recent years photon and spin echoes in cavity assisted schemes become increasingly interesting. In this article we develop the photon echo pulse area approach to describe primary and multi-pulse echo generation in the atomic ensemble placed in the ring cavity. We show that the pulse area approach predicts relative echo magnitudes and whether the system is operating in a single- or a multi-pulse generation regime. We also analyze the conditions needed for the realization of these generation regimes. This work develops the pulse area theorem approach for analytical study of photon/spin echoes in optical and microwave cavities and echo based protocols of quantum memory.

CNOT gate on reverse photon modes in ring cavity

Photon modes of reverse rotation in ring QED-cavity coupled with single atom are considered. By applying Schrieffer-Wolf transformation for the off-resonant light-atom interaction, an effective Hamiltonian of the evolution of the photon modes is obtained. Heisenberg equations for the input-output photon mode operators are written and the expression for the system wave function is found. The obtained analytical solution shows the condition of the control NOT quantum gate implementation. Possible on a chip experimental implementation and recommendations for the construction of optical quantum computer using this gate are considered.

SRA vs histograms in the noise analysis of SPAD

A comparative analysis of the method of histograms and the sequence of the ranged am-plitudes (SRA) for statistical parametrization of the operation regime of a single-photon avalanche photodetector is carried out. It is shown that the SRA method contains all the information, which can be obtained using the method of histograms, and also allows to give a quick robust description of the dark counts of the device for a short noise sample of $\sim10^3$ points, what open the way for the introduction of SRA approach into software of a high-sensitivity photodetectors.

Superefficient long-lived multiresonator quantum memory

In this paper, we propose a scheme of a long-lived broadband superefficient multiresonator quantum memory in which a common resonator is connected with an external waveguide and with a system of high-quality miniresonators containing long-lived resonant electron spin ensembles. The scheme with 4 miniresonators has been analyzed in details and it was shown that it is possible to store an input broadband signal field to the electron spin ensembles with quantum efficiency 99.99%. The considered multiresonator system opens the way to elaboration of efficient multiqubit quantum memory devices for superconducting quantum computer.

A transversely localized light in waveguide: the analytical solution and its potential applications

Investigation of light in the waveguide structures is a topical modern problem that has long historical roots. A parallel-plate waveguide is a base model in these studies and it is intensively used in numerous investigations of nanooptics, integrated circuits and nanoplasmonics. In this letter we first have found the analytical solution for the light modes in this waveguide. The solution provides a clear physical picture for description of a light within the broadband spectral range in the waveguide with various physical parameters. Potential of the analytical solutions for studies of light fields in the waveguides of nanooptics and nanoplasmonics has been also discussed.

Slow light with electromagnetically induced transparency in cylindrical waveguide

Slow light with electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in the core of cylindrical waveguide (CW) for an optical fiber system containing three-level atoms is investigated. The CW modes are treated in the weakly guiding approximation which renders the analysis into manageable form. The transparency window and permittivity profile of the waveguide due to the strong pump field in the EIT scheme is calculated. For a specific permittivity profile of the waveguide due to EIT, the propagation constant of the weak signal field and spatial shape of fundamental guided mode are calculated by solving the vector wave equation using the finite difference method. It is found that the transparency window and slow light field can be controlled via the CW parameters. The reduced group velocity of slow light in this configuration is useful for many technological applications such as optical memories, effective control of single photon fields, optical buffer and delay line.

Low Loss Light Feld Modes in Nano Planar Waveguide: An Analytical Approach Based on the Rytov-Leontovich Boundary Conditions

We develop an analytical approach based on the Rytov-Leontovich boundary conditions to study light field modes in the nano planar waveguides. The analytical results thus obtained demonstrate new conditions for optical low loss surface plasmon-polariton modes in the planar waveguides with dielectric-metamaterial interfaces. The obtained results are confirmed with existing numerical calcultions. More general conditions for using the proposed analytical approach to study light field in the nano waveguides are also considered.

Entanglement creation with negative index metamaterials

We propose a scheme for creating of a maximally entangled state comprising two field quanta. In our scheme, two weak light fields, which are initially prepared in either coherent or polarization states, interact with a composite medium near an interface between a dielectric and a negative index metamaterial. Such interaction leads to a large Kerr nonlinearity, reduction of the group velocity of the light and significant confinement of the light fields while simultaneously avoiding amplitude losses of the incoming radiation. All these considerations make our scheme efficient.

Photon echo quantum RAM integration in quantum computer

We have analyzed an efficient integration of the multi-qubit echo quantum memory into the quantum computer scheme on the atomic resonant ensembles in quantum electrodynamics cavity. Here, one atomic ensemble with controllable inhomogeneous broadening is used for the quantum memory node and other atomic ensembles characterized by the homogeneous broadening of the resonant line are used as processing nodes. We have found optimal conditions for efficient integration of multi-qubit quantum memory modified for this analyzed physical scheme and we have determined a specified shape of the self temporal modes providing a perfect reversible transfer of the photon qubits between the quantum memory node and arbitrary processing nodes. The obtained results open the way for realization of full-scale solid state quantum computing based on using the efficient multi-qubit quantum memory.

Quantum Computing on Multi-atomic Ensembles in Quantum Electrodynamics Cavity

We propose an effective realization of a complete set of elementary quantum gates in the solid-state quantum computer based on the multi-atomic coherent (MAC-) ensembles in the QED cavity. Here, we use the two-ensemble qubit encoding and swapping-based operations that together provide implementation of any encoded single-qubit operation by three elementary gates and the encoded controlled-NOT operation is performed in a single step. This approach simplifies a physical realization of universal quantum computing and adds the immunity to a number of errors. We also demonstrate that the proposed architecture of quantum computer satisfies DiVincenzo criteria.

Atomic quantum transistor based on swapping operation

We propose an atomic quantum transistor based on exchange by virtual photons between two atomic systems through the control gate-atom. The quantum transistor is realized in two QED cavities coupled in nano-optical scheme. We have found novel effect in quantum dynamics of coupled three-node atomic system which provides control-SWAP(θ) processes in quantum transistor operation. New possibilities of quantum entanglement in an example of bright and dark qubit states have been demonstrated for quantum transport in the atomic chain. Potentialities of the proposed nano-optical design for quantum computing and fundamental issues of multi-atomic physics are also discussed.

Rephasing processes and quantum memory for light: reversibility issues and how to fix them

Time reversibility is absent from some recently proposed quantum memory protocols such as Absorption Frequency Comb (AFC). Focusing on AFC memory, we show that quantum efficiency and fidelity are reduced dramatically, as a consequence of non-reversibility, when the spectral width of the incoming signal approaches the memory bandwidth. Non-reversibility is revealed through spectral dispersion, giving rise to phase mismatching. We propose a modified AFC scheme that restores reversibility. This way, signals can be retrieved with excellent efficiency over the entire memory bandwidth. This study could be extended to other quantum memory rephasing schemes in inhomogeneously broadened absorbing media.

Fast and robust two- and three-qubit swapping gates on multi-atomic ensembles in quantum electrodynamic cavity

Creation of quantum computer is outstanding fundamental and practical problem. The quantum computer could be used for execution of very complicated tasks which are not solvable with the classical computers. The first prototype of solid state quantum computer was created in 2009 with superconducting qubits. However, it suffers from the decoherent processes and it is desirable to find more practical encoding of qubits with long-lived coherence. It could be single impurity or vacancy centers in solids, but their interaction with electromagnetic radiation is rather weak. So, here, ensembles of atoms were proposed for the qubit encoding by using the dipole blockade mechanism in order to turn multilevel systems in two level ones. But dipole-dipole based blockade introduces an additional decoherence that limits its practical significance. Recently, the collective blockade mechanism has been proposed for the system of three-level atoms by using the different frequency shifts for the Raman transitions between the collective atomic states characterized by a different number of the excited atoms. Here, we propose two qubit gate by using another collective blockade mechanism in the system of two level atoms based on exchange interaction via the virtual photons between the multi-atomic ensembles in the resonator. Also we demonstrate the possibility of three qubit gate (Controlled SWAP gate) using a suppression of the swap-process between two multi-atomic ensembles due to dynamical shift of the atomic levels controlled by the states of photon encoded qubit.
