Periodic solutions of a phase-field model with hysteresis

In the present paper we consider a partial differential system describing a phase-field model with temperature dependent constraint for the order parameter. The system consists of an energy balance equation with a fairly general nonlinear heat source term and a phase dynamics equation which takes into account the hysteretic character of the process. The existence of a periodic solution for this system is proved under a minimal set of assumptions on the curves defining the corresponding hysteresis region.

Optimal control of a population dynamics model with hysteresis

This paper addresses a nonlinear partial differential control system arising in population dynamics. The system consist of three diffusion equations describing the evolutions of three biological species: prey, predator, and food for the prey or vegetation. The equation for the food density incorporates a hysteresis operator of generalized stop type accounting for underlying hysteresis effects occurring in the dynamical process. We study the problem of minimization of a given integral cost functional over solutions of the above system. The set-valued mapping defining the control constraint is state-dependent and its values are nonconvex as is the cost integrand as a function of the control variable. Some relaxation-type results for the minimization problem are obtained and the existence of a nearly optimal solution is established.

Relaxation in population dynamics models with hysteresis

The present paper is concerned with a nonlinear partial differential control system subject to a state-dependent and nonconvex control constraint. This system models the dynamics of populations in the vegetation--prey--predator framework and takes account of diffusive and hysteresis effects appearing in the process. We prove the existence of solutions to our system and show that they are close in a suitable sense to solutions of the system with the convexified control constraint.
